Samba and CUPS printing
Could someone precisely state what is necessary to add to smb.conf file in
order to have CUPS printing working from Windows clients? My setup is:
Samba 2.2.0alpha3 and CUPS 1.1.6, CUPS is working fine from Linux machine, but
now I'd like to have it working from Windows clients that have Linux machine
as PDC. The documentation is rather confusing, CUPS manual is stating that

3.0.23c and CUPS - RESOLVED but not SOLVED

Approximately 23 hours after they disappeared, the missing printers have
magically reappeared and seem to work. I have no idea why or how or
where they've been in the interim. Maybe it's best that way. :-\

Cube Size Changes?
Listmates,
Interesting difference in size. The cube now seems to have grown in
size during rotate. See the differences:

Is there a setting that controls this?

Compile from source FAILED - Mandrake 7.2
Mates,
The saga continues, but THANK GOD 'make revert' WORKS. Here is my
problem. I am trying to compile 3.0.7 from source and install it on my
Mandrake 7.2 box. The gcc compiler is 2.95.3. Here is what I have done:
[stop samba]
# ./configure --prefix=/usr --with-smbmount
# make
# make install
# /etc/rc.d/init.d/smb start
Here is what I get:

update to cifs-mount-3.2.0-24.1.122 from .121 broke mount.cifs
Jerry, Jeremy, et. al.
Last night's upgrade from cifs-mount-3.2.0-24.1.121 to
cifs-mount-3.2.0-24.1.122 on a openSuSE 10.3 x86_64 machine broke mount -t
cifs. Now attempting to mount shares results in the following:

Printing XP -> 3.2 Now really slow (just like the old days)
Guys,
My wife needed to print something this evening to our normal HP 4 attached to
our cups server running samba-3.2.1-0.1.126. Nothing has changed in the last
two months going from 3.0.28a to the 3.2.x flavor of samba. However, something
has brought printing to its knees.
I pulled out all the old tricks, hacked the registry to delete any entries in

Will radeon or radeonhd work with compiz?
Sam, Danny, J., all
I am working with the radeon and radeonhd drivers seeing if I can get them to

'add/change/delete share command'(s) in smb.conf
Hello.
I need to allow one of my users to add & delete shares on my Samba server
through the 'server manager' applet on his client .
This same user also writes some files to the same Samba server.
I don't want the files that he writes to be owned/written by 'root' .
The way I understand the 'add share command' currently, this is not
possible.
Am I missing

Samba 3.0.25c Going Nuts on our Network???
POSTED TO THE LIST W/O ATTACHMENTS
--------
Jerry,
I am sending this to you directly because it contains the tcpdump
information in addition to the samba logs just in case there is sensitive
information contained in the files.
What is happening is that samba 3.0.25c, after first running
smoothly, is becoming very "chatty" across our LAN. I don't know why, but

mdk 7.2, Upgrade 2.0.9 to 3.0.7, Help with ./configure
Mates,
In following chapter 35 "How to Compile Samba" I have looked at
./configure --help and I have a few questions. Originally I installed 2.0.9
via RPM, and of course there are no longer RPMs for mdk 7.2.
On 7.2, smbd and nmbd are installed in /usr/sbin. The docs are in
/usr/share/doc/samba-2.0.9. I don't know where the rest of the pieces of the
puzzle were scattered by

smbd won't start - new installation
Hi all,
I installed SuSe 9.1 with Samba 3.0.4-suse. I can not get the smbd to
start from swat, but nmbd is running, When I start smdb and nmbd with
the SWAT restat then ps -A shows that the processes are there and it
seems to run, but not according to the 'status' of swat. Copying files
from samba and printing with the shared printers work though. The
printers show "access denied, no

Is there a way to tell Samba to use the NT_Create_AndX style of

White Cube of Death - fglrx_7_1_0_SUSE103-8.452.1-1
Listmates (only posting to one list)
Compiz has been running great with the 8.433 driver except for the
libGL SONAME lockup on exit.
see: https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=344135
I just built and installed the 8.452 driver. Compiz would not start
with the normal fusion-icon approach that I have been using with the
8.433 driver. This is on my Toshiba P35 laptop with an ATI

0.7.6 Ring Switcher not initiated by <super> Tab
List,
In checking ring switcher and shift switcher, it seems that the key
bindings are off.
For shift switcher, it still initiates with <Shift><Super>S, but no
longer terminates with enter on the numeric keypad, only the normal
enter key terminates it.
For ring switcher, it is NOT initiated with <Super>Tab despite the key
binding showing that it is. Instead,

Linux Kernel VESA Video Modes for 1440x900
Jan, List:
Is there any way we can compile a kernel to include the VESA Video
Modes for 1440x900 resolution so that we can pass grub VGA=867 for
1440x900. This will all me to work in runlevel 3 without the screen
resolution being stretched from 1024x768 to 1440x900. The stretch causes
everything to be distorted. The necessary VESA modes and numbers are:

Compiz - vista like Right Side Panel
Guys (and girls)
I have seen screenshots of compiz with a vista like right side panel
holding the clock, calendar, system stats, etc. that I would love to
add. The problem is that (1) I don't know what it is called or (2) where
to look to get it. I have looked at kasbar, ksim and universal sidebar
under KDE, but those are not what I've seen. Anyone else have any other
ideas?

compiz-fusion-kde-0.6.2-3.1 Window Decoration Crash?
Guys,
SuSE 10.3, compiz-fusion-kde-0.6.2-3.1, fglrxG01-8.43.3-0.1, xorg 7.2.
I just experienced a complete window decoration crash where all window
decorations disappeared. kwin --replace followed by a emerald --replace
cured the problem. This is the first crash since installing 6.2-3.1
about 12 hours ago. Is there anything helpful I can post that might
identify the cause of the problem?

error - Annotate Plugin (Unable to choose colors)
Listmates,
I have run across an error with the annotate plugin. I am unable to
select a new color for the Fill or Stroke color and the Stoke color
doesn't seem to do anything. Here is a screenshot showing the problem.
Let me know if I can send anything else. Thanks.

Slow Scrolling in Compiz
Listmates,
Hopefully this is a compiz only question. Using the mouse wheel to
scroll down web pages seems to be much slower in compiz than in kde. It
also affects scrolling through long directories in konqueror (ex:
/usr/share/doc/packages) but to a lesser extent than web content.
Is there any setting, fix or workaround that might help?

Yast->Software Mgmt forced to full screen w/out Decorations - [Work Around]
List,
For any of you using openSuSE and frustrated by Yast -> Software Management
being forced to full-screen without any window decorations, an unlikely
work-around has been discovered. Dev's, I don't know if this is compiz or KDE,
but something is wrong.
The work-around was discovered by accident while attempting to correct a sudo
problem where sudo would prompt for the root
