Extreme Samba Newbie needs more help
Tom Syroid was kind enough to answer my first question. I had some really weird errors and he told me to uninstall the samba that I had compiled on my own and reinstall the samba.tgz that came with slackware 7.1 which is what I am running. I did so, and the weird errors no longer occur. Instead when I try: root@vader82:/# smbclient -L localhost added interface ip=192.168.0.1

proposing $E & $T
Hey all, I''ve had these functions for some time now, and would like to offer them as two new dollar-sign functions - elements to be extended by Prototype geniuses. :-) makeText(string) as $T() - return text node element Does just what it says... I''m sure someone could extend it nicely when via Prototype. (example) var x = $T(''hello world'');

Setting up Samba on Red Hat Linux 6.1
pn] I'm trying to set up Samba on a Linux Red Hat 6.1 machine. Other machines on my network are NT4 and Win98. I generally followed a NHT, except that I have a domain using user-level access for shares instead of a share-level access. I couldn't get it to work, and tried diagnosing it using the document at http://us1.samba.org/samba/docs/DIAGNOSIS.html. Several tests are not working as

"The Ogg Vorbis Musical Abyss"
Just found this one: http://camelot.kingarthur.com/phoco/ogg_vorbis/info.html It seems to have music dedicated to vorbis (by the names, don't have player here) and a link to an interview with Monty ("more information on the Ogg Vorbis format") and the artists seem very excited about it. The browser says the pages are quite old (Jul./Sep. 2001) but I don't remember it being

Limit consumption of space on destination?
I've just started using rsync, and it's way cool. I checked the FAQ, the broken mailing list archive search function, and scanned the archives, but didn't see this mentioned. I presume it's a fairly common need: I'm mirroring files automatically and daily from one site to another, and anticipate the day when the size of the files may exceed the size of the destination disk.

Dark age of Camelot expansion install problem.
I looked over the wine app site and DAOC seems to run pretty good, which is great because I love the game and I recently switched over to Linux. The normal game installs just fine, however, when I attempt to install the expansions I get the message that I am not installing to a daoc directory. I've tried installing in the "C Drive" and also threw the .wine directory. But nothing

New Printing Howto collection is soooo good!!! (I learn a lot from theory)
Hi, I must say that i admire very much the printing documentation written by one of your samba team. I wish every documentations is like this! -- It explains to a newbie like me what I need to know. It is amazing: i read it and in my head a few questions start to go round. I read 1 page more and the questions are answered. It is not good that the other documentation pages of the howto

Samba Newbie
I'm in the process of beginning to set up Samba with the aid of the book Special Edition Using Samba. The problem that I have is that I cannot get the service to run. I am using Red Hat 7.2 - kernel 2.4.9-13. I modified the smb.conf file and get the following when running the "testparm" command: Load smb config files from /etc/samba/smb.conf Processing section "[homes]"

FreeBSD: Changing UNIX password - Password Chat?
I can't get my Samba PDC (FreeBSD 7,0-BETA3) changing UNIX passwords from Windows clients (Ctrl-Alt-Del). I now have the password chat debug active and I have loglevel 100. I am not certain about the syntax in the password chat. But if I from a console try to change the password of a given user (here testuser1), I see these lines: mflserver3# /usr/bin/passwd testuser1 Changing local password

Duplicate/No users in LDAP?
Hello, as I continued exploring Samba 3.0.4 as a PDC, I managed to get roaming profiles up ... Saving changes worked out fine. I logged in as TheUserWithUID=0 ... and tried to add a user. Access denied. The logs for the XP-client contain: > [2004/06/03 23:10:46, 2] passdb/pdb_ldap.c:init_group_from_ldap(1792) > init_group_from_ldap: Entry found for group: 513 > [2004/06/03
