Fwd: Re: 2.2 release imminent.
Okay, I sent this a while back, and the current source still exhibits all the previous errors. Is there a chance this can be fixed? Even fixing the check for dn_expand in resolv.so would help ... Frustrated with browsing, domains, and network logins ...
I'm trying to get cross-network browsing/domain logins working. In brief, I am very frustrated. We thought the initial problem was a browsing problem, but now it does not appear to be that. Even once the workstation can see the servers, it STILL cannot perform a Domain login, although it CAN access resources if I use the Ms Dos prompt and issue a 'net use ...' command. This

2.2 release imminent.
Well, as Andrew shouted at me again this weekend it's getting to be about that time.... :-) :-). Yep, we're thinking we should do an official 2.2 Samba release early next week, so if you have anything you can't live with, now would be a good time to tell us.... :-). It's been gestating longer than an elephant, so it's really time to let it out into the world and do its own

Status of samba projects
Hello list members, I'm slightly confused as to the status of the samba project(s), and was wondering if someone here could give an authoritative answer to what the situation is. Is it correct that the current latest stable version 2.0.7 is being developed into 2.2 by a continuation of the "original" team? And samba TNG is working on a different approach which will be version

Password Expirey
Is there anyway to expire password for windows clients with a Samba (in my case recent alpha version)? I found a post the TNG parameter "password expire time = 10" but a "strings smbd | grep expire" didn't turn in up in the binary. Anyone have any ideas if this is possble (I see it posted frequently to the archives, but no answers). Systems and Network Administrator

'map to guest' option
Hi, I'd like users who log on as a user who does not exist on the system to be quietly allowed access as the guest user. I set the 'map to guest = bad user' option in the [global] part of the config, but there's no change to the default behaviour which is to deny access to unknown users. The Samba server is set up as a PDC and the workstations are running win2k. I've had

samba and net start
Hi, I was wondering if samba provides a means to start a programme on an NT server, specifically a service? This is equivalent to the 'net start' command, but I wish to start a service from my Linux server. Thanks Rob --

Calculating home ranges using mcp in adehabitat
Hello, I've been trying to calculate home range sizes (for Icelandic geese!) using minimum convex polygons with the adehabitat package. I've tried to use the R code shown by demo(homerange) in adehabitat and when that didn't work I've fiddled around with it but to no avail...Below is the output of the demo that I've attempted to follow, followed by a subset of my data (for one

Win2k, Domain logon, permissions
I first asked this question at the end of October, got a response which didn't solve the problem, and have finally got back to the issue now. I'm running 2.2.7a, recently upgraded from 2.2.0 as Domain Logons for Win2K were suspected to be part of my problem. Anyway, the issue relates to AutoCAD (actually a vertical product called Land3) and a command which works with winXX boxes, but

patchless client on RHEL4
Is there instructions on how to use the patchless client on RHEL4 ? For version 1.6.2 We would prefer a rpm, but we are not scared of doing a build if needed. Brock Palen Center for Advanced Computing brockp at umich.edu (734)936-1985

Outdated Document - DOMAIN-CONTROL.txt
Dear Sir I been reading through your (?) samba-doc folder on Debian 2.2. The document DOMAIN-CONTROL.txt is dated 1996 and updated 1998. It mentions that SAMBA cannot be a PDC. This is not the case anymore isn't it? Thank you Warwick Chapman (Glenwood 1999) http://www.boatrace.co.za Assistant IT Manager Glenwood High School, Durban, South Africa 031 2055241 083 7797094

Tinn-R
Hi Everyone, I was hoping someone could help me with the settings for Tinn-R. I see in the screen shots that it has syntax help, or something similar (tips on what functions, etc). I can not seem to get this to turn on in the program, and I am wondering if I have to set up a few options. I quickly read through the help and could not figure it out. Many thanks! - Brock P.S. Learning R - View datasets
Hi All, I am making a serious effort to try to learn R, but one hurdle I am facing is that I need to "see" the data as I walk through the examples in the packages. For instance, many examples on the web start by a command like data("wines"). How can I actually view what the dataset looks like prior to transformations and analysis? I have tried to use edit() , print, and

Encrypt Passwords & Mixed Case Passwords
Hello! I have a query regarding the use of "encrypt passwords = yes" and is wondering if anyone can help me with it. If I recall correctly, when using "encrypt passwords = no" , Samba will lookup the username/password via the UNIX /etc/passwd file or equivalent. And as the password can have mixed-case passwords, the "password level = x" parameter is used to

browsing multiple workgroups on multiple subnets
Is it possible to browse multiple workgroups on two or more subnets? I have set up samba on either end of a VPN and can browse successfully from either end, but only in the workgroup that samba is configured for. Can Samba be a member of more than one workgroup at the same time? Looking in browse.dat I can see all the machines in samba's workgroup and also the other workgroups, but not the

smbclient porting to Handheld device
Dear Andrew Tridgell and Samba Team, You have done a wonderful job in providing an excellent piece of software. I am interested in porting smbclient to Handheld device, mostly as a hobby. Please see my website http://vieka.com/. Because some of the Handheld OSs don't have the ability to access Windows share resource, specifically, the new Pocket PC by Microsoft, I would like to add this

samba as client, adding to browse list
Well, I've poked around the documentation without any success... I've got several samba servers running, but I've never been required to deal with Samba as a client on a workstation until now. The workstation is RH 7.2, Samba-common 2.2.1a and it's on a LAN with a 2.2.0 server and a pile of winXX workstations (no NT). KDE is the X environment. I needed to get linpopup going to
