Insuffecient Quota with Win2k and Samba 2.0.7
I have a Redhat Linux 7 machine running Samba 2.07 for file server access only. Samba is setup to use our NT server (4 w/sp6) as the primary domain controller to validate accounts on.
Fine, this is all working dandy. Except that for some odd reason, when some of our Win2k clients are accessing the file server, they will occasionally get an "Insufficient Quota" error. Now,

Win2K and multiple Samba servers and Samba 2.07
Hello to all,
This is my first ever use of a mailing list so bear with my ramblings and
illiterate prose.
I have been using samba from 2.03 to 2.07 for over a year now. We run DHCP,
WINS on the samba (acting as domain) box running Mandrake 6.0. Windows
machines are running everything from Win95 up to Win2K. With Win2K I have
problems with slow read/write, particularly for one application

James Nord's reply to Win2K and multiple Samba 2.07 servers
Hello again,
Thanks James for your replies.
In regards to the slow read/write, the software vendor is aware of the
problem, at some stage they will buffer the read/write, but it won't happen
overnight, the binary file is quite complicated. So there are no updates
available for this particular issue and I don't expect any for a couple of
months. The software in question can generate

Im using samba 2.07 from source on a digital unix 4.0e machine.
Users are connecting to their unix home directories fine. There are
also samba print shares. Im using cups-1.0.5 for the print server but
this problem looks like it's part of samba. The authenication is done

installing software on Win2k workstations with samba PDC
Dear list readers,
we run Samba 2.2.3a on our server system. It servers as a primary domain
controller to a group of Win2k SP2 workstations.
Workstation can automatically join the domain (using the administrator's
account) and access all file shares.
We are experiencing a strange behaviour when it comes to install drivers or
certain software packages. Just two examples:

Win2K, Unix, Mac OS via Samba and Helios
Situation: one unix fileserver with shares that need to be fully accessible
(read, write, execute) by both Macs and PCs.
Implementation: Unix fileserver uses (and has used for a couple of years)
Helios to manage Mac accounts. Recently installed Samba to manage PC
accounts. PC can connect to Unix via Samba.
Problem: If Mac user creates a folder or moves a file to a share, Helios
creates a hidden

Antwort: installing software on Win2k workstations with samba PDC
Got the same problem with the account Administrator. I have created
Administrator on unix with group ntadmin. The user belong to group ntuser
and always have problems to access installed software. All installed Files
are created with owner Administrator:ntadmin. After changing the owner of
all installed files to Administrator:ntuser the problems are gone. I will

SP6 for Windows NT terminal server AND SAMBA - 2ND try
Had no replies, so here goes again.
We recently installed the Terminal server SP6.0 on Windows Terminal
server. And are now having problems opening some files with some
applications from samba shares. We have traced it to being a file open
function used by apps.
such as notepad and perl.
Any ideas what has changed in SP6 and how to fix it?

cant see cups print queues via samba
It is possible to see the print queue and via NT4's printer window.
Correct? And remove the jobs too, right? But not for me.

queues show ok using lpq
printing from nt works ok using samba.
in smb.conf I have:

lpq command = /usr/local/bin/lpq -P %p
lprm command = /usr/local/bin/lprm -P %p %j

vb6 sp6
I've installed the latest Wine RC and I'm trying to use it to install VB6 SP6. I've succeeded in getting sp5 installed but when I run the sp6 installer I get as far as the agree/disagree button and as soon as I click the "I Agree" button I get the "Visual Studio 6 Service Pack 6 setup was not completed successfully" click OK box.

How to "Pack" a matrix
Hello,
Suppose I have a matrix a where
a= sp1 sp2 sp3 sp4 sp5 sp6
site1 1 0 1 1 0 1
site2 1 0 1 1 0 1
site3 1 1 1 1 1 1
site4 0 1 1 1 0 1
site5 0 0 1 0 0 1
site6 0 0 1 0 1 0
And I want to pack that matrix so that the upper left corner contains
most of the ones and the bottom right corner contains most of the zeros
so that matrix b is
b= sp3 sp6 sp4 sp1 sp2 sp5

OK, need some help with Win2K clients real bad
Hi everyone,
OK, this is driving me nuts, and I'd really appreciate some help from those
who are intimately familiar with the way the Locks, etc work with Win2K
clients...
We have an ACT database that is shared among about 25 Users, all Win2K
clients.
I have tried and tried and tried again to move this database over to my
Linux (Redhat 7.0 with almost all 7.1 patches) server running SAMBA,

replace NA with factor class
Dear all,
I have a tree data matrix. For some trees I lack info about tree species,
but I want to set them to be spruce. For some reason the tree species names
on the remaining (non-NA) rows are changed into numbers (that I do not
recognise).
I guess that ifelse is not the correct function to use, but I have not
found any better one in my searches.
Thanks in advance!
Sincerely,
Tord

Win2k & 2.0.7
When I try to join the Win2k machine to a domain, I get the following message:
The following error occurred attempting to join the domain "WIN2K":
The procedure number is out of range.
This is a Win2k PC attempting to join to AIX 4.3.2 running samba 2.0.7. Any
ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Bill

Win2k and Win9x printer drivers from 2.0.7?
Hello, All.
Is it possible to have a Samba 2.0.7 server provide printer drivers for both
Windows 98 and 2000 clients? I'm currently delivering Win98 drivers with
great success, but we're beginning to have Windows 2000 clients on the
network and I've been unable to trick Samba 2.0.7 into providing the proper
files. Note that the Samba server provides just file and print services;

Re: R-help Digest, Vol 2, Issue 26
With the same system configuration (WinNT4 SP6 and 1.7.0), I get such a Dr
Watson crash each time I try to use the Change dir... command in the File
menu of Rgui.exe. I doesn't seems to happen if I do this immediately after
starting R but well if I already did some computation.
I don't have any problem by using directly setwd().

Newbie (groan... !) Client Problem
I've studied the books, searched the list archives, etc. I suspect there is
someone who can just tell me one thing to tweek, so I humbly beg your
advice.
Situation:
I am playing with/learning Linux, intending to replace our two company
Netware servers sometime in the next 6 months. At home, I have an NT4.0/SPC
PDC, an NT4.0/SP6 docked laptop, and an HP server with RH7.1 or 7.2 (2.4.??

SAMBA 2.2.7-2 with Redhat 8 + and NT-4 (sp6 PDC)
I have many Linux ( 6.5, 7-7.3, 8) servers running samba and working with
the NT4 (sp6) PDC. All seems to work okay Sometimes I find that the Server
Manager
on the NT side can't see the server and up till now, all I had to do is
remove it from
the domain, re-add it and run the smbpasswd command to join the domain ( it
states that it has joined the domain) re-start samba and the problem was

PC loosing domain membership frequently
Hi,
I'm new to this list.
I tried to google and did a _bit_ of searching in teh archive but didn't
find anything related to my problem.
I use samba 2.2.8a as the PDC on SuSE-linux 8.0. I administrate 7 Rooms
with 160 PC, mainly w2k-sp3 and some older with NT4-sp6.
In two of seven rooms some PC loose their Domain-membership. I can bring
them back into Domain, but they seem to loose it after
