Limit bandwidth per IP
I would like to limit the amount of bandwidth each IP in a network gets.
For example I have a network that runs at 10mbit. I have a class C
192.168.1.0/24 that makes up this network. Is there any simple way I can
say each IP in that class C gets 56k with out making a rule for each IP?
Thanks,
Rob Kobiske

using smbclient without netbios names
I am trying to connect to computers running windows9x knowing only the IP
address using smbclient.
on windows computers i can type \\130.15.210.185 in the address bar and
browse the shares of computers that don't show up in my network
neighbourhood (computers on other subnets don't seem to show up, but i can
still use them by typing the IP in)
I am using smbclient like so:

Major network slowdown today... Samba the cause?
Today, our network has been excruciatingly slow. I checked the log.nmb
file, and I noticed that today, the Samba PDC has been losing its "local
master browser" status every 2 minutes or so, for about 15 seconds, to a
Win9x client.
Before today, this also happened, but only a few times each day.
Network configuration:
1. All clients are Win9x.
2. Server is SuSE 6.1, with Samba 2.0.5.

Post 3.0.9 Win9X Domain Logon Problems
Hi all,
We have Samba 3 up to and including 3.0.9 working fine using LDAP for
the backend. XP and 9X logons work fine. On upgrading to newer
versions (inc. 3.0.11, 3.0.14a and tried 3.0.20), in the same
configuration, 9X logons stop working properly - they authenticate, but
fail to get information such as groups and user's full name. XP still
works fine.
We use KIX for our logon

A Group Policy Question in Win9x (yes, another one).
I am wondering if anyone has ever answered the question of group policy operability under Windows 9x. That is, I am _not_ looking for a work-around but the real thing--one config.pol file to service several groups.
I have done my homework, hopefully well, but found nothing. To prove this, I will quickly summarize my findings below. Either I have found:

Mounting samba shares
Hi,
I'm trying to mount samba shares onto the file system, but at the moment
i only seem to be able to mount them as root. I've tried changing the
permissions on the mount point and even mounting it on a subdir of my
home directory but mount just keeps telling me that only root can do
this. I've put an entry for the mount in /etc/fstab with the user
option, what have i missed?
I'm

Win9x & Samba 2.0.5a
We have a system that uses SAMBA on HPUX 10.20 systems as servers and
primarily NT4 Clients. We do however, have a few 9x boxes. We are
running with Encryption on the servers, so no modifications are made to
the registries of either types of windows boxes.
This is my problem: We were running fine on 2.0.3, but when I upgraded
the binaries to 2.0.5a, the 9x boxes could no longer see any files

Some MS Software doesn't work with SAMBA?
Can it be that our accounting packages don't work
on SMB and only with NT?
I would HATE to put a NT Box into the mix.

Large files timeout
I am trying to download a 200MB ISO file and each time I attempt to do
so it will timeout after around 30 MB. I've used both a Microsoft and a
FreeBSD tftp client with the same results. When PXE booting a pc and
letting it download the ISO it either hangs halfway through or the ISO
appears to be corrupted when trying to boot to it from ramdisk. I am
looking for suggestions on how to

Login scripts and Win9x clients
Hi all,
I have two systems using Win98 and one using Win95. These three systems do
not automatically execute their login scripts. I can map the network drives
manually and tell them to reconnect at login, but I am wondering why they
don't execute them. I can log in, browse to my netlogon share (if I make it
browseable), and execute the script manually, and it works. Well, it mostly

Re: Win9x login script problem - solved
Many thanks to everyone who replied to me with possible solutions to the
problem I was having with drive mappings from login scripts under Windows
98SE.
Adam Manock hit the nail on the head with his comments (see below) - it
turned out to be exactly this.
I was using Notepad to edit the login script, then using SSH to transfer
the script to the server. SSH was 'helpfully' converting

Attempting to install samba
Hello all,
I am new to this list and to samba. I used samba in a previous life, but
someone else installed and maintained it.
I am have a small issue that I do not know if it is resolvable. Here it is:
I have installed samba on the server named "kirk", our master domain
controller for nt is named "picard". They are on the same subnet. My
clients are on a different
