Interesting errors...
Greetings,
About 2 months ago, we decided to backup our Oracle test servers via
samba rather than nfs -- the backups were just taking too long using
nfs. No problem mounting the remote file share to the server and the
backup took about one-third of the time. Yep, worked good...and still
continues to out perform nfs hands down.
Problem is - I'm receiving errors on both of the test servers.

Errors in /var/log/messages and "dmesg"
A friend of mine is running Samba (samba-2.0.3-8) on a couple RedHat Linux
6.0 machines. He is sharing files bilaterally at work with a WinNT
machine and at home with a Win9x machine.
In both places, he is getting a large number of SMB error messages. I'm
not sure whether these are from the smbfs (smbmount) or from the Windoze
machines accessing the Linux drives, though I suspect the

What's Happening
Found these messages in /var/log/dmesg on a Redhat 7.1 machine running
Samba 2.2.2 accessing a Win 2000 share. Actually, there are a bunch of
tasks accessing the same share, complete with file locking, etc.
Any docs on what that error code means?
...Thanks,
...Kenneth

Occasional problem with hanging SMB mounts.
Hello everyone.
I have two linux servers* that each have four directories mounted as
SMBFS shares from a Windows 2000 Server. For the most part, this set-up
is working great, however, there have been occasional hiccups.
Every so often, one of the servers, LINUX-ONE, logs a couple of
Samba-related errors. The following is an example:

64-bit Windows advanced server 2003 hangs
I just had the unpleasant experience of crashing a production server
_twice_ when trying to access a file share.
The server is 64-bit Windows 2003 on an itanium3. My box is RedHat Linux
8.0 with Samba 3.0.0-2. Here's some messages from syslog:

Cannot copy Files > 2GB
Hi all
I'm using Samba version 3.0623 on my rhel3 with kernel 2.4.21
I mounted a windows partition with the command "smbmount".
Now I have the problem, that I cannot copying files which are larger than 2GB.
The cp command starts and everything works fine until the 2GB are reached. Then
the bash gives me the error: "The maximum file size is exceeded"

smbfs and i/o errors
Hi guys,
I hope I've reached the correct mailinglist. I'm experiencing a problem
with smbfs. You can mount shares, but after a while, the connection is
broken and all sorts of strange stuff happens. I've got a share called
/mnt/ntshare which remotely mounts an NT host:
[arnow@foo /mnt]$ ls
ls: ntshare: Input/output error
cdrom/ floppy/
[arnow@foo /mnt]$
[arnow@foo /mnt]$ dmesg |

smbmount disappears
Hi,
I'm using samba-2.0.6-19991110 on Redhat 6.1 in order to mount a NT-filesystem.
The mount command is:
smbmount //ISDN/CoTel /mnt/NT-Bank/ -o username=serv,password=serv,workgroup=WORK,uid=root,gid=users,ro
everything works fine, except that after one or two days the mount
disappears. A simple 'ls /mnt/NT-Bank/MCCWIN' results in 'Input/output error'.

Samba-2.2.0alpha-2 (interesting behavior)
Hello,
I am running Samba-2.2.0alpha-2 on a OpenLinux 2.3 (Caldera)
system, and I was wondering if this error message is NORMAL behavior
for a NT Server share mounted with the following command:

here is what is in /var/log/messages:

Samba 2.0.7pre4
Dear Sirs:
I wish to report my experience with the package.
I have compiled and used Samba 2.0.7pre 2, pre3, and pre4. I have not
had any trouble connecting to Samba's shares (from an NT client), but I
would like to report a problem with SMBFS and SMBMOUNT. NT4, SP5 shares
mounted into the filespace of the Linux box can disconnect over time
with two possible outcomes. The activity is

About smbfs: smb_get_length error
Hi All:
When I use samfs, sometimes I got the following messages, Mr. Google says
this is because the windows client use the share, and the connection
is "reconnected"! Does it right?
How to ward off the error? Is there any potential problem if I ignore it?
My actions are smbmount and smbumount some shares. Sometimes some shares are
smbumount before they mounted (thus cause a

Horrible smbmount problem
Hello,
I have a problem with smbmount between two Linux (both: RH 6.0,
kernel 2.2.9, samba 2.0.4c) boxes. When I use smbmount, the share loads and
I can read files just fine, but when I copy ("cp file") to the share, the
first 512 bytes of the file are copied and then the copy just freezes there.
Trying several times to kill -9 the process didn't work. I had to reboot the
server.

smbmounted shares don't stay mounted
I'm running Linux 2.1.130 on an AXP, with Samba 2.0 beta 2. I have smbfs
enabled in the kernel with Win 95 bug fixes enabled but I'm not running
smbd. The server containing the share is an HP running Samba 1.9.16p11.
I mount the share with
smbmount //hpname/share -c 'mount /home/me/mydir'
All is well for a while (~1 hour), but then I get

Smbfs problems after upgrading from Woody to Sarge
I earlier this week upgraded from Debian woody to sarge on a machine that
does a nightly backup to another machine via a samba share. Since then I
have had some issues with accessing that share with I believe are a result
of the upgrade. I upgraded the kernel at the same time to 2.4.27-1-686 #1
via apt-get, which might be the related to the problem. Smbfs is version
