Configuring Swat Revisited
Okay, here's what you need to do. You have to configure apache. This won't be too hard. You will need to edit the httpd.conf located in /etc/httpd/conf directory. Look through the httpd.conf file until you find this line: #Servername localhost It may or may not have the # in front of it. You need to edit this line and make it say: Servername yourservernamegoeshere For example,

FWD: Configuring Swat
Hi Sean, I had this problem when I upgraded our servers to RedHat 7. In RedHat 7 they changed from running the inetd.d to running xinetd.d. This is the daemon that figures out what programs to start when a port is accessed. Port 901 is for swat, this is configured in your /etc/services file. In the /etc/xinetd.d/ directory you'll find a file called swat. Edit this file so it looks

Does Samba need to see the world?
Our ISP experienced backbone problems yesterday. Our backbone provider's backbone provider (EMBRATEL, the newly-privatized telecom company of Brazil) went down for a few hours. That was a big problem itself, but what I'll tell you is a weird side effect: Samba stopped working on our local network!!! I checked DNS, resolv.conf, /etc/hosts, smb.conf, everything! While our Internet

Cannot see trusted domains (getfacl or setfacl)
Hi, I have a samba server (version 3.0.28). I have joined my server to my domain with no problems. Since I will have postfix in my machine, (to relay mails externally) I configured my /etc/resolv.conf with my external dns first and later my internal dns. The problem is that when I try to apply acl permissions on some folder (using setfacl) I cannot see the trusted domains, If I comment out the

Win9x clients not 'seeing' each other
Hi there, I have a somewhat wide experience with samba. I've succesfully installed it as a client as well as a PDC on Windows networks. The last time, however, there has been an issue with the win9x stations. I've setup the Samba server over Linux to act as a PDC for the domain. I use dhcp to assign the network configuration to the hosts, and the only protocol installed on them is

Can't see shares on a server member
Hi team, I'm dealing with AS/U as a member server on a Samba 3.0.20 PDC. Jonction seems ok, and from the member server I can see PDC's shares (with net view) and authenticate user (with net logon user passwd /domain:domainname). On the other side, I fell into timeout when running smbclient -L member from the PDC. Here is a log.nmbd loglevel 10 from PDC as there is no other log

Can't even connect to my server via ping/http/telnet
Quite a strange error, and I am very interested to see if anyone can figure this one out: While trying to access my Samba 2.0.5/RedHat 6.0 server via PPP from Win98 on my laptop, I can't ping, http, or telnet there. No error messages, just timeouts. All this works from my LAN, but not when I dial-up somewhere (tried w/ mulitple ISPs). I know it's not a DNS issue, because it works when

Windows can't see Samba server in Network Neigborhood
I have a private IP network with one win98 PC and one Linux PC. The windows machine can only access shares if I map a network drive and type the path in explicitly. When I go to network neighborhood the Linux PC does not show up. Both machines are in the same workgroup, so it should be there. When I type the path directly into the address bar in network neighborhood the program stops
