dealing with mke2fs -T option
Hi, I have a doubt if I use the mke2fs option the right way. I formatted two different disks, one with $ mke2fs -b 4096 -E stride=16 -m 1 -T news /dev/sdd and the other with $ mke2fs -b 4096 -E stride=16 -m 1 -T largefile4 /dev/sde sdd is supposed to get files between 8k and 16k. sde will handle files with a fixed size of 32Mb. Then I tried this : $ dd if=/dev/zero of=/mount-sdx/file bs=4k

owner of a smbd thread
Hi, I've set up a Samba server accessed by NTWS 4. When I do a "ps aux" on the server, i can see a line for each user connected with a "smbd -D" command. The owners of these commands are mostly root but sometimes the users themselves. How to force the owner of the command in order to be available to get a list of connected users with an "ps aux" and an

mounting NFS or SMBFS ?
Hi, I've users connecting to a samba server via WinNTWS 4.0 (home directories are /home/%u) While workstations have both Windows and Linux installed, I want to allow users to connect to their /home directory when logging into Linux. a good way of life
Thank you all for your answers. One told me that in order to allow the students to upload/download from their home directories, FTP or something like that is a simple and easy choice. As domain logon and roaming profil is not needed and FTP can be logged, I'll use this. Another question for our brillants candidates : How to batch the creation of a Samba account ? I mean, everytime you

samba pdc- dialin allowed flag?
I would like to use a genuine Windows 2000 server as my PPTP server (getting poptop to work correctly is annoying the hell out of me) which needs to authenticate off of a Samba server configured as a PDC. A Windows-based PDC has a flag for "dialin access allowed" for each user. I searched the Samba archives and see several posts over the years that say it "sounds easy enough to

multi-homed samba PDC and NetApp filers
We are having a problem getting a NetApp filer to re-join a samba domain after a move to a new network. The filer worked fine with samba before the move. Apologies in advance for the long missive. I've tried the following: - re-running the CIFS setup program on the filer - removing the problem filer's samba account, replacing it, and re-running the setup program on the filer

XP can browse samba by IP, but not by name - NMB issues?
I have an XP home (falcon) and an XP pro (tatooine) machine, both behind a rh9 box (hoth) acting as firewall. I've been trying to get samba set up on the linux box. I think I have it mostly working except that the XP boxes won't list hoth under "My Network Places - Microsoft Windows Network - MSHOME", and I cannot access hoth by name at all from the XP-pro box (by IP, I can

File manager or browser for IMAP?
Hi all, I could really use a file manager or browser to browse my Dovecot IMAP. Ideally it would have hotkeys to move, copy, delete and send. The send part needn't be coded: Just a call to a shellscript which can handle the send the way it's locally the most convenient. Anyone know of such a file manager or browser for IMAP? iproute2: gatewayed routes in ancillary tables
Hello all, Tomas Bonnedahl and I recently corresponded about a rather odd behaviour with routes in ancillary routing tables. We both receive a "Network is unreachable" error when we try to add gatewayed routes to ancillary tables and the main routing table does not contain an entry for the gateway IP. It seems that unless a route to the gateway IP exists in the main routing table, I

NTLM_AUTH failing?
I am not sure how to determine the separator, but 'which' shows "/usr/bin/ntlm_auth". I already ran it while on-site. Since it is broken, I cannot remote in. I will have to show up on-site again, possibly Thursday.
