Outdated Document - DOMAIN-CONTROL.txt
Dear Sir
I been reading through your (?) samba-doc folder on Debian 2.2.
The document DOMAIN-CONTROL.txt is dated 1996 and updated
1998. It mentions that SAMBA cannot be a PDC. This is not the
case anymore isn't it?
Thank you

Encrypt Passwords & Mixed Case Passwords
Hello!
I have a query regarding the use of "encrypt passwords = yes" and is
wondering if anyone can help me with it.
If I recall correctly, when using "encrypt passwords = no" , Samba will
lookup the username/password via the UNIX /etc/passwd file or equivalent.
And as the password can have mixed-case passwords, the "password level =
x" parameter is used to

smbclient porting to Handheld device
Dear Andrew Tridgell and Samba Team,
You have done a wonderful job in providing an
excellent
piece of software. I am interested in porting
smbclient to Handheld device, mostly as a hobby.
Please see my website http://vieka.com/.
Because some of the Handheld OSs don't have the
ability to access Windows share resource,
specifically, the new Pocket PC by Microsoft, I would

IMPRINTS: mkprintpkg.pl unable to expand microsoft cab file
Jerry,
Perhaps you could help me with a problem building a Samba print package.
I've downloaded the drivers files I need from HP. I run the appropriate
mkprintpkg.pl command, but it dies with the following output:
[root@tux designjet]# /usr/local/imprints/bin/mkprintpkg.pl
--name="hp1050c" --version=1.00
--display-name="HP DesignJet 1050c" -d "HP DesignJet 1050C

enumprinters
The "printer drivers download" feature of SAMBA-2.2 is great.
Thanks to the SAMBA team.
I'm using SAMBA-2.2.0 and everything works fine except one
command:
$ ./rpcclient sdprint -U root -c 'enumprinters'
Enter Password:
rpc_api_pipe: cmd 26 on pipe 703e failed to return data.
result was NT_STATUS_UNSUCCESSFUL
$
I can't say that rpcclient log file is useful for me but

2.2 release imminent.
Well, as Andrew shouted at me again this weekend it's getting
to be about that time.... :-) :-).
Yep, we're thinking we should do an official 2.2 Samba release
early next week, so if you have anything you can't live
with, now would be a good time to tell us....
:-).
It's been gestating longer than an elephant, so it's really
time to let it out into the world and do its own

Status of samba projects
Hello list members,
I'm slightly confused as to the status of the samba project(s), and was
wondering if someone here could give an authoritative answer to what the
situation is.
Is it correct that the current latest stable version 2.0.7 is being developed
into 2.2 by a continuation of the "original" team?
And samba TNG is working on a different approach which will be version

Problems with PAM in Samba 2.2.0?
I have a Samba 2.2.0 PDC set up running Linux and I have a Windows 2000 client computer. The Win2k computer can join the domain, but no one can log in. Everytime I try to logon with the Win2k computer, it says that the account is disabled. I can use the account to browse shares and mount the home directory from the PDC. I have added the account to a group on the Win2k computer.
I found the

Buffer overrun using W2k.
We recently upgraded our NT4 Domain to Win2k.
We use Samba 2.0.7 running on Solaris 2.6 servers.
We are getting buffer overuns in the log files when running
'domain_client_validate' which appears to be due to extensive group
membership (SID History is not being used).
Are there any patches/fixes available to get round this problem?
Thankyou in anticipation.

list of users in Win9x
Hi!
I recently installed the Samba 2.2.0apha2 package. Almost everything works
fine except that the Win95 clients can't make user-level shares of their
directory.
On the windows box, in the Network Control Panel - Access Control tab I set
the user-level access control, and confirmed the NT domain (Samba is the
PDC).
Everything looks fine till now. I open the MyComputer window, and try to

Samba 2.2.0 bug.
Ill report this as a bug, since I havent had any response to my question about
it on the mailing lists.
I am trying to get at the /smb file system.
My understanding is to do this I MUST go thru the smbsh.
When I try executing smbsh, I see:
[reg@orion bin]$ smbsh
Username: rwclemens
Password:
ERROR: can't get smbw shared lock (Invalid argument)

some win machines see samba, some not.
Hello,
I have this big problem which bothers me for past week(s).
I have setup a simple samba network on win95 only net and
it worked fine.
This time I try to setup a samba on a network having win98
WinNT 4.0 sp4 and WinNT4.0 WS SP 5.
I believe all machines are on the same local net.
I have tried both samba 2.0.5a (RH6.1 default) as well as
samba 2.0.7.
I can use 'smbclient'
