Domain authentication failing after a period of time
I am having an unusual bit of behavior with a recently upgraded 3.0.8 installation (from 3.0.2a). I upgraded the server and retained the secrets.tdb file. The server itself is using security = domain, and it had been joined to the domain prior to the upgrade. Now, once I started the new version, I couldn't log on, and would get the error "There are no logon servers available to service

Problem with VFS audit and recycle
Is there anyone running Samba 3.0.X on Solaris 8 that has VFS working? I am dying to know if this is a problem with my setup or if there is something else going on. If you do have it working, please let me know which module. Thanks. problem with netbios aliases (nmbd restart solves it)
Hi, I'm running samba 2.0.5a under Solaris 2.7 and am seeing a problem where the netbios alias for our print server sometimes becomes unavailable. It is still visible in Network Neighbourhood, but double-clicking comes back with "<blah> could not be found on the network". However, I can connect to the machine OK, by double-clicking on its real name, rather than its alias. I

Max Print Jobs Problem
I have setup a dedicated print server running on RH 8 with Samba 2.2.5-10 and LPRng-3.8.9-6 to service a HP9000 printer. The print queue for this HP9000 gets it print jobs from a Windows server via a script and the queue is set to HOLDALL status. The HOLDALL status is necessary because the script runs overnight to produce the print jobs which can total anywhere from 500 to 12,000 individual print

Memory leak in 2.0.7?
I have been experiencing a problem here after having upgraded last week to 2.0.7 (from 2.0.4b) on Solaris 2.6. The smbd processes are growing in size until they are taking over the system. I just had to stop and start samba on a system that had smbd processes of 26 M, 24 M of which was resident in memory for most of the processes. After stopping and starting again, the processes are back down in

Samba disappearing from WINS
We are running samba 2.0.4b to provide corporate print services. Everything with regards to printing is working like a charm. However, twice in the past two weeks, some of our Samba servers have disappeared from the WINS servers. The WINS servers are NT servers running 4.0SP5. The strangest part was that in one occurrence, it was the lone samba server at one location, but in the other

Question about AD user/ACL mapping
We have updated our long-standing Samba install on a Solaris 8 box to 3.0.24 and are interested in making use of the Windows ACL mapping capabilities to help take over a Windows share. However, there is a snag - the pre-existing box has usernames that differ from people's Windows logins, i.e. their Unix login is freddy, and their Windows login is fred_smith. I have our AD domain membership

Problem with VFS audit and recycle (fwd)
This problem continues under 3.0.4 on Solaris 8 - attempting to use the "vfs object" parameter in a share prevents access to the share and results in the following in the log files: [2004/05/10 16:04:57, 0] lib/module.c:do_smb_load_module(57) Error trying to resolve symbol 'init_module' in /usr/local/lib/vfs/audit.so: ld.so.1: /usr/local/sbin/smbd: fatal:

Patch for "last" providing incorrect information on Solaris 8
I have put together a simple set of diffs that corrects the problem described by Steven Fishback <sfishback at interpath.net> on 10-30 on this list regarding incorrect information reported by last on Solaris. The patches merely pass along the username in the utmpx record for a logout. Is there any reason why this would be a problem with other OSes? If not, maybe this could be rolled into the

Printer shares question
Hi, I checked the archives, but couldn't find this question: I have two printers set up on my RedHat Linux 6.1 box, called lp0 and lp1 (original, huh?). Anyway, I want both of these printers to be visible and browsable on the network. I have the following relevant lines in my smb.conf file: printcap name = /etc/printcap load printers = yes [printers] comment =

Solaris/Samba/printing question
Hi all, This is sort of mundane but users want to know how to get their userid's on the banner sheet when they print to a Unix box running samba. The printer prints out my userid (of course, I have a userid on the Unix box) but everyone else has guest. smb.conf has "guest" as the userid to print but how does my name get on the banner? Is this even possible without users having

Retrieving browser lists
I've searched the Samba docs, man pages, Using Samba, and a few other places. I've been unable to find a way to retrieve the browse list (as in Network Neighborhood or net view on Win32) from Samba. I'm using a RH 6.2 box running Samba 2.0.7 in a multi-subnet workgroup (which is really a domain, but I don't have a machine trust account and I'm using security = server). Samba is

Printing with lpr or lprng without two copy
Hello! We're using samba to manage our HP LaserJet 8000, which is a very fast and high capable printer. So we need the best performance, when we printing. The problem is when samba receive a file for printing it's copying the file to a tmp directory, and after that the lpr is copying this file out to its own spool directory. For example, where a 300M printing job is arriving from a
