BUG-with-fix: smbclient ignores WORKGROUP= in smb.conf
I recently upgraded to 18p8 from 16p11 and found that smbclient now needed
a -W in order to connect properly to our domain (which was not the name
supplied with the -DWORKGROUP= from the make).
Turns out that clientutil.c always uses the value specified by the
WORKGROUP macro and never calls lp_workgroup() to get the value specified
in the smb.conf file, unless WORKGROUP is "".

smbclient seems touched in the head
Hi, All
I'm brand new to the list, and here's what's going on:
I am running samba 1.9.18 on a RedHat Linux box (RH release 5.2).
Samba was installed via RPM rather than built locally.
While configuring smbd for a different purpose than I write about
here, I discoverd smbtar. It struck me that this might prove a
useful tool for backing up an NT mail-server (icky, I know) from a

SMBCLIENT to Domain-Laden NT SP3
I am trying to list the shares on an NT 4.0 SP3 system.
I supply the -L <host> and -U <user> parameter and the password.
The password is correct, but I get an error 2242 returned. On a similar
machine configured without domains I have no problem. I have built using
DES and without DES and have tried the -DBSD44 switch and without
it (this is on FreeBSD). Enclosed is the debug

Revised smb-wall (Was: smbclient -M --> ERRmsgoff?)
I've gotten smb-wall to work with Samba v3. If there's a better way,
please let me know. If not, what's the chances this could be included
in a future release?

I have installed Samba-1.9.18p4 in a BSDI 2.1, operates enough well but have problems

NT Problems with Samba
Okay - all I'm trying to do here is smbclient from my Slackware Linux box
(SNUFFY) to my Windows NT 4.0 SP3 Server (BURT). Burt is a BDC and is
participating in WINS via my internal WINS Server. The Scope ID for the
WINS Server is HARVESTWEB - but I'm not sure how to set that in SAMBA. My
password server (I assume) should be my PDC with is GROVER (146.115.109.8)
Eventually, I want to be

Folks,
I looked through the archives, but didn't see anything like this.
I have a network with a mix of Win95, Win98, and WinME clients (and one
Linux system w/ Samba server version 2.2.2).
All systems belong to a workgroup called "Oteima".
All Win95 and Win98 clients see all other systems (including the Linux
box) in one list.
