Winxp netlogon script
Hi all, I am having problems running a logon script from a Winxp pro client. It appears that the logon script is not being run at all. Win98 runs the script fine, but none of the Winxp pro clients are currently running it. I am running RedHat 7.1 with Samba version 2.2.7-security-rollup-fix. My smb.conf is as follows: [global] netbios name = LOKKI server string = Lokki PDC

Authorize to samba, can't connect to NT. Help!!
Hi group, I have a Linux server running 2.0.5a and setup as workgroup ADMIN. It's set to do domain logins, local, preferred and domain master are on and security is set to user level. We have the local workgroup ADMIN here on x.x.3.x subnet and on x.x.4.x there is an NT PDC that controls the MSHIP domain. The local 98 users login to ADMIN and can browse the servers across the subnet in

Promoting Samba to PDC in NT domain?
Hi, I've a Samba 2.0.7 server in a NT4 domain with PDC and BDCs NT Servers around. The network is subnetted into 255.255.255.128, the samba machine is in 192.168.1.229 while the PDC and BDC are in 192.168.1.44 and 192.168.1.78. When I created the samba box, I ran server manager in NT to make it a server, NOT PDC/BDC. The setup has been running for more than 4 weeks without problems. Today,

UNIX/NT Account Creation Scripts?
Hi: We're running Samba on a Unix machine which is a member of the NT domain. This has several interesting ramifications involving UIDs and passwords (I've listed those below). But this is my basic question: Does anyone have any scripts they use across UNIX and NT to create user accounts? I have access to rsh and adduser.pl with the NT Resource Kit, so presumably I could write

Outdated Document - DOMAIN-CONTROL.txt
Dear Sir I been reading through your (?) samba-doc folder on Debian 2.2. The document DOMAIN-CONTROL.txt is dated 1996 and updated 1998. It mentions that SAMBA cannot be a PDC. This is not the case anymore isn't it? Thank you Warwick Chapman (Glenwood 1999) http://www.boatrace.co.za Assistant IT Manager Glenwood High School, Durban, South Africa 031 2055241 083 7797094

some win machines see samba, some not.
Hello, I have this big problem which bothers me for past week(s). I have setup a simple samba network on win95 only net and it worked fine. This time I try to setup a samba on a network having win98 WinNT 4.0 sp4 and WinNT4.0 WS SP 5. I believe all machines are on the same local net. I have tried both samba 2.0.5a (RH6.1 default) as well as samba 2.0.7. I can use 'smbclient'

Encrypt Passwords & Mixed Case Passwords
Hello! I have a query regarding the use of "encrypt passwords = yes" and is wondering if anyone can help me with it. If I recall correctly, when using "encrypt passwords = no" , Samba will lookup the username/password via the UNIX /etc/passwd file or equivalent. And as the password can have mixed-case passwords, the "password level = x" parameter is used to

smbclient porting to Handheld device
Dear Andrew Tridgell and Samba Team, You have done a wonderful job in providing an excellent piece of software. I am interested in porting smbclient to Handheld device, mostly as a hobby. Please see my website http://vieka.com/. Because some of the Handheld OSs don't have the ability to access Windows share resource, specifically, the new Pocket PC by Microsoft, I would like to add this

2.2 release imminent.
Well, as Andrew shouted at me again this weekend it's getting to be about that time.... :-) :-). Yep, we're thinking we should do an official 2.2 Samba release early next week, so if you have anything you can't live with, now would be a good time to tell us.... :-). It's been gestating longer than an elephant, so it's really time to let it out into the world and do its own

enumprinters
The "printer drivers download" feature of SAMBA-2.2 is great. Thanks to the SAMBA team. I'm using SAMBA-2.2.0 and everything works fine except one command: $ ./rpcclient sdprint -U root -c 'enumprinters' Enter Password: rpc_api_pipe: cmd 26 on pipe 703e failed to return data. result was NT_STATUS_UNSUCCESSFUL $ I can't say that rpcclient log file is useful for me but

IMPRINTS: mkprintpkg.pl unable to expand microsoft cab file
Jerry, Perhaps you could help me with a problem building a Samba print package. I've downloaded the drivers files I need from HP. I run the appropriate mkprintpkg.pl command, but it dies with the following output: [root@tux designjet]# /usr/local/imprints/bin/mkprintpkg.pl --name="hp1050c" --version=1.00 --display-name="HP DesignJet 1050c" -d "HP DesignJet 1050C

Status of samba projects
Hello list members, I'm slightly confused as to the status of the samba project(s), and was wondering if someone here could give an authoritative answer to what the situation is. Is it correct that the current latest stable version 2.0.7 is being developed into 2.2 by a continuation of the "original" team? And samba TNG is working on a different approach which will be version

Samba Passwords
I have a RH 6.0 server setup with accounts for about 1500 users (school), I use encrypted passwords. I would like users to be able to change their samba ('Windows networking') passwords and at the same time change their unix passwords (used for E-mail). I have the following in my smb.conf file as per the given example: unix password sync = Yes passwd program = /usr/bin/passwd %u passwd

Authentication through samba
Greets, I have two samba servers setup on linux machines (Machine A, Machine B). I would like one (Machine A) to authenticate for itself and Machine B. So far, setting Machine B up as a client pointed to Machine A as a password server seems to work somewhat but Machine B still requires the uid/gid to exist locally in order to work properly. Is there a way around this? Regards, Deryk Robosson

samba and case switching.
Hello, I'm using samba 2.05a on my slackware linux box and have just noticed something very weird. When I copy a file via network neighborhood in 98 to my home directory on the linux box the file is converted to all uppercase. Under windows even though it isn't case sensitive the first letter of each word is capitalized, but when I look at the files under linux they're all in
