We are looking for another solution besides Samba, which will allow our
application developers using Windows 95/98/NT to access share on our Sun Box
running Solaris 2.6 operating systems. Our supervisor feels the Samba
installation process is more complex than what we really need.
Any suggestions?

Multiple workgroups : Multiple Subnets
I am still trying to make samba work over a WAN with multiple workgroups
although I am just about to throw in the towel. I had hoped to find a solution
that would permit a Windows PC to browse a (MS) workgroup (ie retrieve the
browse list from the workgroup master browser for a remote (MS) workgroup when
that MB is NOT a samba server). Since WINS only provides the broadcast
address of the remote

Mapping Drives from Windows 98 client to Sun Sever
We have a Sun box physically located at another site running Solaris 2.6
We perform administration remotely using telnet, CRT and others from Windows
95/98 workstations.
We are want to use Samba to allow mapping to certain directories on the Sun
Server.
The documentation I have seem to only reference installation of Samba on the
Sun Server.
Our workstations do not have the Solaris Operating

prevent workgroups from appearing in browse list
Hi,
I have a samba 2.2.1a (cvs-06.08.2001) running as PDC for my domain, and it
is doing fine. But in the broadcast domain there are severeal other
workgroups (no domains) with their own Domain Master Browsers. Additionaly
there are always a lot of unconfigured computers not under my control,
which build their own workgroups (e.g. mdkhome, workgroup...).
My problem is now, how do I prevent all

Cross-subnet, multiple workgroups
The samba configuration on the local LAN works great but, I am trying to set
up samba to permit browsing of two workgroups on different subnets and
getting very close but not quite the results I want. Remote shares can be
mapped to a local drive using "net use * \\remotehost\remoteshare" but in
windows explorer the remote workgroup is not browsable : there is a "computer

browsing multiple workgroups on multiple subnets
Is it possible to browse multiple workgroups on two or more subnets?
I have set up samba on either end of a VPN and can browse successfully from
either end, but only in the workgroup that samba is configured for. Can
Samba be a member of more than one workgroup at the same time? Looking in
browse.dat I can see all the machines in samba's workgroup and also the
other workgroups, but not the

Sync browse list between multiple workgroups?
(Samba version 1.9.18p4)
I want to set up my environment thusly:
- 2 workgroups, each composed of multiple subnets.
- Each workgroup has a DMB and a WINS server (Samba only - no NT)
- The two workgroups should collate browse lists so that clients on
either workgroup can browse and connect to hosts on the opposite workgroup.
I've read the documentation in BROWSING.txt and it does not appear

multiple workgroups from one Samba server?
Hello,
Is it possible to set up multiple Windows workgroups on a single Samba server? We have the same user, defined in 2 different workgroups (Windows Domains), and would like both of these users to connect to the same Samba share. However, we're not certain if this is possible, or what the syntax should be in the config. file. Any ideas here?
Thanks,

Cross-subnet browsing with multiple domains/workgroups
Hi,
I'm trying to set up browsing across subnets to provide an
'enterprise'-wide (sorry for the MS term ;-) browse list / Network
Neighbourhood.
I've read BROWSING.TXT, but I can't see how machines on different subnets
in different domains/workgroups sync up (using Samba, anyway).
On my local subnet, I've set up a clunky old Linux 386 (Samba 1.9.18p8)
as the browse

Multiple Workgroups and Subnets
Hi,
I am configuring a network with two subnets with a different workgroup
in each subnet. My aim is to have users being able to view and access
shares on both workgroups. I have a Samba server in each
subnet/workgroup, configured as both the domain and local master for
each workgroup. Each server is also the WINS server for its subnet. The
setup is like this:

NT domains -vs- simple workgroups????
Hi, I've been following some of the posts (never
received a reply to mine but found one similiar). I
have a question that I hope you can clarify.
Original question: I can see the server from my
Windows XP machine using network neighbors, but when I
double click on it I get: Path not found
One reply: If you're using NT domains (not simple
"workgroups")...

Newbie: listing workgroups and hosts
Hello everybody,
I think that this should a be a trivial task but I've already read the
documentation but couldn't find out how to get a list of all
workgroups and their hosts with "smbclient".
Could somebody give me a hint please(and sorry for that silly question)?

How to find all workgroups being used on a subnet?
I want to discover all the groups currently in use on a subnet. Is
there a way to do this with a broadcast request?
I know that I could just run nmblookup on every single host on the
subnet, but that would take forever. I'd like to just make one or
maybe a few calls. I'd like to limit the number of calls I make to no
more than one plus the number of workgroups that are in use.

Removing stale host/workgroups in browse lists
I've got a moderate network with several subnets, a number of domains
and workgroups. I have a central WINS server, each domain has its own
PDC. My problem is transient users. We have occasional users who plug a
laptop into the network. Once they leave, they hang around in Network
Neighborhood forever. Then I have users who curiously click on their
icon in NN and their machine just

Browsing with duplicate names in multiple workgroups/subnets and multihome machines
You can see by the subject I've got an ugly problem. Even though I don't
have a Samba server anywhere near the network in question, nobody
understands browsing as well as the folks on the Samba team. :-)
Here's the situation: I've got two workgroups, FLINTSTONE and RUBBLE
which are on physically separate networks. FLINTSTONE has a Windows 2003

Browse lists from other workgroups across subnets
I have problems to get browse lists from other workgroups across subnets.
On win95 network neighbourhood I have a complete list form all computers
in the same workgroup (including computers located on an other subnet) and
a workgroup list. But if I try to look at the computers on an other
workgroup I get an error message: workgroup not available.
The subnet has an samba server (2.0.3) configured

share between different workgroups

Now I added a workgroup e (linux samba), and want to
make all the machines under different workgroups share
the files or printers when necessary. So I setup a
RH7.1 with NAT implemented by iptables so that the
machnies under this server can use 192.168.0.x (win9x
machines) to access the network. Yet the
