Error 4617: SMB connection failed & NT_STATUS_BAD_NETWORK_NAME
Hi folks,
I'm trying to access a share on a RedHat 9 server from a Fedora Core 1
workstation. Here is the environment (pretty vanilla), the error I'm getting,
and what I've done to try hunt down the problem.
Server, 192.168.1.100, has a share of /home/users/herman
Workstation, 192.168.1.101, has a mount point of /home/herman/serverdata

Samba conf. problem - NetBIOS problem?
Thanks to those who wrote and suggested I remove NetBEUI from my Win95 machines. Here's the next chapter in the story:
First, based on another suggestion, I tried "netstat -a" on the Win95 machine "secretary". It didn't show any kind of traffic on ports 137-139 (even though files WERE being shared at the time).
Next, I tried removing NetBEUI from

Samba encrypt passwd
Hi,
I have samba installed on my Linux system (Red Hat
7.2), and
Windows 98 on another PC as a Samba client. Samba
works great
if PlainTextPassword is enabled. However, if
PlainTextPassword is
disabled on Windows client, connection to the Samba
shares no
longer accepted.
I believe I've done everything in order to make
encrypt passwd working:
* I converted /etc/passwd to

Devices not appearing/Manually add devices to Browse List ?
I'm not quite sure whether this is a plain browsing problem, or a wins
problems, or ...
I had wins running on one machine (Samba(2.0.5a)/SCO Unix), but my main
file server on another (Samba (2.2.1a)/Linux). I moved the wins support to
the Linux server, and at the same time I made the Linux server the Domain
Master Browser, but now some devices have dissapeared from the network.

No joy adding a CUPS printer
I'm trying to change my Samba setup from LPD to CUPS, with little
success. I've followed [and re-followed] the setup documentation
from CUPS and I just can't get Samba to recognize my printer.
The catch is - it sort of recognizes it :-(
First I added these lines to my smb.conf:

FC2 to FC3 Upgrade help
Hi All,
Due to a hard-disc crash, I have just upgraded from a working Samba setup
running in FC2 to a non-functional Samba setup running in FC3. The Windows
XP machine has not changed, but won't connect. Samba is fully up2date
from the FC3 repositories.

No longer able to browse windows share via Nautilus
I used to be able to browse the windows shares on the network through
Nautilus. I can see them as computers, but when I click on them, it
fails. (I'm on Ubuntu 6 LTS, AMD64)
About 3 months ago, this failed. But, the windows boxes can all still
access my shares on my Linux box.
I was going through the trouble shooting, and found this out, but I'm
not sure what to do next.

Dispelling Myths About Samba Encrypted passwords, NT_STATUS_LOGON _FAILURE and XP
Hi,
I've been using samba for a while now with relatively simple configurations.
I do however have a few questions:
* When using encrypted passwords with samba, is it possible to authenticate
users using the Unix user password(/etc/passwd)?
* When using smbclient I get the error NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE:

identd on "clients"
Hi,
I use shorewall on my router (internal ip: 192.168.1.4). The router is used
as a gateway for my lan.
If I try to access an IRC server from any "client" (for exaples 192.168.1.1)
I get the message "no identd". I tried the following in my shorewall rules
config (etc/shorewall/rules), but i doesn''t work:

I thought I had this configured correctly, but it stopped working when
I rebooted the other day. I looked through the archives and tried all
the stuff that looked relevent, but to no avail.
I have a redhat 6.0 server running samba-2.0.3, and a bunch of

basicly /tmp permissions and my printers.

smbmount problem
Hi,
I don't know why smbmount doesn't work. My samba version is 3.0.0. Remote server (192.168.1.1) is running samba 3.0.0 too. Both are linux machines.

Winpopup/RealPopup
Hi all,
I have network with few win 95/xp machines and suse 9.3 prof server. On
every win client is installed RealPopup (RealPopup homepage:
www.realpopup.it).
I can send popup message from my xp computer to win 95, and I can get reply
on new message addressed from win 95 computer, so looks like popup
communication works well.
If I use:
