Script file editors for Windows - submit highlighted text?
Greetings,
I use S+, Stata, SAS and R depending on the weather... The
script file editors in S+, SAS and Stata all allow me to submit a
portion of a developing script file to the running process. In R I have
to use an external editor and either source the entire file or do lots
of copy-and-pasting. Are there any editors out there which interface
to R more closely and let me submit a section

html manual files nonfunctional
R help.start() opens a web browser as expected, but the ?Manual? html links
are dead (although the ?Reference? and ?Miscellaneous Materials? html links
do work). I get a similar problem from within RStudio.
I?d like to get pointy-clicky html manuals working, to help migrate users
from SAS to R.
I do see R manuals on this system from the EPEL R rpm's in info and pdf
form, for example at

size units in xen-create-image, and other newbie doubts
Greetings,
I'm fiddling with Xen at home, the dom0 is a freshly installed Debian
stable (current 6.0.6 squeeze) using LVM over RAID.
I want to use two VGs, so the pointy-clicky won't really do since
--lvm only takes one argument (i assume). That's no big deal, i can
use LVM tools and even the partitions.d scripts xen-tools can use and
provide a partition template through the

introducing R to high school students
I participate peripherally on a listserve for middle- and high-school
science teachers. Sometimes questions about graphing or data analysis
come up. I never miss an opportunity to advocate for R. However, the
teachers are often skeptical that their students would be able to
issue commands or write a little code; they think it would be too
difficult. Perhaps this stems from the Microsoft- and

Lame, Bitrates, ReEncoding I
I'd like to use the Bitrate and Reencode features of ices and understand I
must recompile with lamelib.
However, it's Very Unclear where to begin here. This is noted in the
ices-0.2.3 INSTALL file:
I installed lame as a debian package so lame.h is in
/usr/include/lame/lame.h
and libmp3lame.a is in /usr/lib. configure finds everything automatically.

LiteSpeed
Yo Zed,
Just curious -- what do you think of the LiteSpeed
server? Is it better than Lighty? Does it (gasp!) also
serve Rails apps like Mongrel? I think I read that
LiteSpeed doesn''t have proxying support.
Thanks,
Joe

Controlling Dovecot with Webmin
Dear Sir
I have just setup a Fedora 4SE server, with Webmin - latest production
release and Dovecot .99.14.
The only way to start dovecot is to be logged into the server as root -
locally or ssh, and type the dovecot command.
>From Webmin - logged in as ROOT, when I attempt to start Dovecot it tells me
that it can't because it can not open the config file - permission denied.

Orbis VS MP3
I'm hearing some people say/insist that Orbis takes up more CPU than MP3.
Is this true and by how much?
Thanks-Zeek

winamp >2.75 -answer on song titles // use_meta_data-
also, keep in mind that support for streaming song titles is also a
function of the source client you use....
I've been very successful with use_meta_data=1 and using either my DSP
source (oddcast) or the Shoutcast DSP source....
and you can always know for sure if song titles are supported on your
server by looking at the HTTP response headers from a request of the
stream, (your request

Linux distro + Asterisk or Trixbox?
Hey all,
I've been doing a lot of playing, and a lot of reading, and it seems
people are split as to whereas if they're running their favorite Linux
distro and asterisk or Trixbox. I'm getting closer to really looking at
a production environment and I'm just looking for any opinions. I'm
really enjoying learning linux and asterisk, so initial "ease of use"

Lame, Bitrates, ReEncoding I
Ok, not bad -be sure to rm config.cache if ices has already been compiled.
Then
./configure --with-lame-libraries=/usr/local/lib --with-lame-includes=/usr/l
ocal/include/lame/ >configure.out
Check configure.out for:
updating cache ./config.cache
checking for lame/lame.h... yes
checking for lame_init_old in -lmp3lame... yes
checking for lame_encode_flush_nogap in -lmp3lame... yes

WaveIn/WaveOut and Speex
Again, thank you for helping me. I know this might seem like a trivial matter to you and other experts in the field, but believe me, there are a lot of programmers, whose posts I saw on the web, who tried to use WaveIn/WaveOut and Speex and failed.
As I understand it, WaveIn just buffers audio data according to the bit rate specified. So, if we use waveFormat.wBitsPerSample = 8, then each Char of

Anyone know if this is any good under Centos 4.3 ? I see there is a
current RHEL 3 and 4 driver. Would that driver survive kernel upgrades,
I'm guessing it would being modular ?
(please don't tell me that 3ware is the only make to use, tw_cli is not
exactly user friendly).

winamp >2.75 -answer on song titles // use_meta_data-
I've searched the archives on xiph and elsewhere in hopes of finding an
answer on whether song titles will work. There seems to be no definitive
answer.
use_meta_data 1 DOES work for WinAmp 2.75 but nothing else I've tried (which
includes the latest WinAmp and Sonique). Also, I can get some header by
telnetting into my port (see below) but still the "meta_data" issue remains

Generic asset definitions and management
(The following is not a Rails-specific question, but relates to a problem
that affects Rails, so I wonder whether anyone on the team has an opinion
about it or knows whether a solution is already in development.)
While gem dependencies can be easily managed in a Gemfile by Bundler, when
it comes to other assets, you either have to manually copy javascript files
into the app/assets or vendor

distorted native music on hold
Hello,
Using asterisk-1.2.1 I am trying to convert my music-on-hold files from
.wav to alaw:
% sox moh.wav -r 8000 -c 1 moh.al resample -ql
The file sounds fine when listened with:
% sox mox.al -t ossdsp /dev/dsp
But when listened through asterisk with an alaw SIP phone the sound is
clicky and too fast.
Did I forget something in my conversion command?
