Windows Session timeouts -- when Samba is slow
While discussing unexpected timeouts on a slow
(auto-restored from tape) filesystem, or on a slow network,
a colleague referred me to the attached snippit of an
MS manual:
Has anyone tried this, and if so, was it usefull?

NTLM and RDR Security Signatures
Hello,
I've been using samba to share files on a Redhat server within a windows
NT domain. Recently, security policies in the domain have changed, and
security signatures are required for the LanManServer and Rdr services.
Now that this has been deployed, I get an error when I try to connect to
the SMB shares on the Redhat server from Windows hosts saying "account

Invalid key given to dptr_close / NT error 3013
Hi everybody,
although I'm not a member of this list, I'd like to address the
following problem here. Maybe someone is familiar with
it or knows how to solve it. He or she would save my sanity.
We have a samba 2.05a server on a solaris 2.6 box. It works as file
and program server. Once or twice a day some of our clients
receive a redirector timeout, error code 3013. The error message

Samba 2.0.3 and NT Terminal Server SP4/MetaFrame 1.8
I'm running NT 4.0 Terminal Server (Service Pack 4) with Citrix MetaFrame
1.8 on a PC, and Samba 2.0.3 on an HP-UX box. We've been having
occasional problems with files not saving correctly, and also with files
not unzipping or copying correctly.
I suspect it's some sort of incompatibility between Samba and Terminal
Server/Metaframe and/or SP4. For

AIX 4.3.3 MR9 SAMBA 2.2.1a runs slow
Greetings,
We've been running samba for half a year and are running into problems with
samba. We run NT 4 clients and it takes a good 20 seconds to go a folder
deep now as opposed to the almost instentanious display of folders that we
had before. Some of the clients can't even connect at this point and we are
getting this error in windows:

Redirector timeout error with samba 2.09 and NT WTS
I found a post from a year ago which matches my current situation almost
exactly, except that we are using samba 2.09. Anyone resolve this yet?

List assignment in a while loop and timing
Hello R users
I have question about the time involved in list assignment.
Consider the following code snippet(see below). The first line creates
a reader object,
which is the interface to 1MM key-value pairs (serialized R objects) spanning 50
files (a total of 50MB). rhsqstart initiates the reading and I loop, reading
each key-value pair using rhsqnextKVR. If this returns NULL, we switch to the

Jails and loopback interfaces
I've got a server running FreeBSD 6.2 and PF. The server has a couple
dozen jails on it. Previously, I had a few "private" services such as
MySQL running on loopback IPs (127.0.0.2+) and the rest of the jails
running on the public IPs.
I have to renumber my machine with a new block of public IPs so I
thought I'd be clever and move all the jails onto loopback IPs. Then

oplock_break: MS kb articles
I found these articles that talk about the oplock_break problem (specifically
they are related to problems with word97):
http://support.microsoft.com/support/ntserver/serviceware/nts40/e9msge2bc.asp
http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q163/5/25.asp
Basically they say:
either apply sp3 on the winnt client or disable oplock on nt server
But they don't say anything about win9x,

I'm running tm 0.5 on R 2.9.2 on a MacBook Pro 17" unibody early 2009

RPC error on Windows NT4.0 clients
Hi, I'd appreciate any help. I'm getting this odd error when I add in
a new samba share to the existing ones on a machine. The error seems
to affect some of my NT clients, yielding a message "A remote procedure
call (RPC) protocol error occurred." This does not happen to all my NT
clients, nor does it seem to affect smbclient on my other samba server.
The samba server is

CTRL-C during .Call causes R to quit to command line
Hello,
During a .Call e.g
while(TRUE){
value <-rhsqnextKVR(rdr) ## has .Call in this function
if(is.null(value)) break;
}
if I press CTRL-C, R exits straight to the command line.
Q: How can I prevent this? I should point out that my library uses
JNI, so I'm not sure if that is causing it.
I'm using R-2.8 on Linux (RHEL 5)
Thank you in advance

low sigma in lognormal fit of gamlss
Hi,
I'm playing around with gamlss and don't entirely understand the sigma
result from an attempted lognormal fit.
In the example below, I've created lognormal data with mu=10 and sigma=2.
When I try a gamlss fit, I get an estimated mu=9.947 and sigma=0.69
The mu estimate seems in the ballpark, but sigma is very low. I get similar
results on repeated trials and with Normal and

help for windows 98
I'm writing because I had a problem with Samba, while installing it on some
of our computers with Windows 98 (beta 3).
We have an internal network not accessible from the outside, in which we
use the sending in the clear (I.E. not encrypted) of the access passwords
to Samba running on a Sun machine with Unix Solaris OS.
We use unencrypted passwords because Windows 95 doesn't support
