Win95 and Win98 - hanging while shutdown
Hallo! I have a small problem. As I installed a Samba-server at one of our customers (office of foreign affairs, AKA consulate), Win98r2 does not want to shut down, the system hangs. It looks like if Windows "forgets" to disconnect the services before shutdown (at least the system hangs - over night (!!) and according to logfiles the workstation has not made any disconnect). As I

smbd won't start!! Please help!!
Hi. We have had SAMBA running successfully at work here for a while, it's on a Sun Sparc Solaris 2.6. The version of samba is 2.0.0. Unfortunately our sysadmin has left the company, and I have to try and fix a problem with Samba. When I try and start samba, "nmbd" starts ok, but "smbd" doesn't start. When I check the log files, I get these errors: [2001/09/24

SAMBA stopped working after a system crash
I need help. For over a year I have been running SAMBA 2.05a under RedHat 6.1 (kernel 2.2.x) without problem. Then a couple days ago a power glitch crashed my system (UPS not powerful enough any more). Now SAMBA is not running. Here are the symptoms: As RedHat is starting up, both smbd and nmbd are listed as successful. /var/log/messages indicates: Dec 30 13:19:45 we-24-126-201-41 smb: smbd

Problems after FreeBSD kernel rebuild
Hi all, My problem is this - I rebuilt my FreeBSD server's kernel for a number of reasons. After doing so, I found that smbd wouldn't start (I start it from inetd but it won't start as a daemon from the command line, either). Looking at the log file, I got the following: [1999/09/28 10:14:55, 1] smbd/server.c:main(628) smbd version 2.0.5a started. Copyright Andrew Tridgell

Smbd won't bind - any clues?
Hi folks, I'm trying to help a fellow sysadmin configure Samba on his DG/UX server. He's installed 2.0.5a, and everything seemed to go well in the configure and make stages. However, when he tries to start 'smbd' by hand he gets the errors below. Our machine is binary compatible with his, and I sent him my copy of smbd (from version 2.0.3), but it made no difference. I had

css - location of files.
Hi all. I have the following scenario. http://myapp/site1 is using <%= stylesheet_link_tag ''myapp_standard'' %> to define the stylesheet for layout, I have myapp_standard.css in /public/stylesheets and it works fine. However, in the stylesheet I define a image to use for my site background. eg: html, body{ background-image: url(mysite_background.jpg); padding-top:

hi guys question on usage of subversion. just set up the repository, removed database settings, logs, tmp etc from being committed. we are two developers and a designer working on the project. do not have the luxury of a separate development and production server. (cost of bandwidth in 3rd world countries!) figured out how to allow everyone involved to checkout latest version and check in

Samba 2.0.6 with automount on Solaris
Hi, all Until recently, we were running Samba 1.9.18p7 in a Solaris 2.6 environment. We configured our environment with configure --with-nisplus --with-automount. With that configuration, we were able to allow multiple machines within our workgroup to act as windows 95 logon servers. Because everthing was automounted. No matter which machine a person gained access to, it provided them with the

Cannot login to PDC(FreeBSD boxen) from client(win XP)
I'm finally getting somewhere in setting up my FreeBSD PDC. I try and login via my XP client and now it gives me this odd message. "Cannot login because a duplicate user already exists on the network. Please goto control panel and system and change your computer name." Sorta paraphrased there, perhaps off by a word or two but that's pretty much what it tells me. I'm just

Hello all, I hope this is the list - I get E-mail addresses mixed up when there are many..
