Errors with smbfs/smbmount.
I've been working with smbfs/smbmount the last few weeks to allow my linux log processing server access to the logs on our NT servers. The problem is that after a period of time all the smbfs mounts become invalid with either one of two errors. When you do a 'df -k' to view the mounts you see the following: samba:~# df -k Filesystem 1k-blocks Used Available Use%

Question about smbsh / smbfs / smbmount
Hello Everyone, I hope that there is someone who can help me. At work we are using Samba for over a year now. Sharing Unix filesystems as a NT network drive is very useful for us. Now my question. We also want to work the other way around. So mounting a Windows NT share as an Unix (AIX) filesystem. I found it very hard on finding information on that subject. So can you tell me what the best

Problem with smbmount and smbfs
I'm not sure if this has already be answered, but when I try to mount something using smbmount I get an error that smbfs needs mount version 6. I am running kernel 2.2.16-3 I was running 2.2.14-5.0 and I was still having the same problem. Is there a fix to this. Or is it a bug. I have not been able to find any documentation on the exact problem, just other people with the same problem.

incomplete smbmount smbfs Win98SE iso8859-1 translation in kernel 2.4.18
I'm getting only partial iso8859-1 translation from an smbfs mount from my Win98SE machine. The smbfs mounted file system shows most lower-case accented characters fine; but, it substitutes underscores for most of the upper-case accented characters (and a few lower-case ones too): # uname -a Linux elm 2.4.18-8.1mdkian3 #7 Sat Aug 17 15:19:44 EDT 2002 i686 unknown (Mandrake 8.2 Linux with all

NT4 IP stack failure under heavy load when using smbfs
Hello, i try to use samba as backup solution for our NT4 servers. At 03:05 every night we automatically shut down the servers, boot DOS and create with Symantec Ghost offline a disaster recovery image of the NT4 SCSI disks (NTFS) on a separate DOS IDE disk (fat32). The down (aka DOS) time is about 15-20 minutes. Then the machine boots with NT4 again. The image (one or two files with max 2G each)

win2k vs smbmount, number of cifs ops required
I'm working on some data pipeline issues, and found some interesting results in comparing win2k vs samba. The volume being mounted is a NetApp 960. NetApp provides a way see the # of cifs operations on a given volume/qtree. So I compared how many ops are generated by copying a 12MB file ( a single 2k image ). The initial reasoning behind this testing was seeing if copying a file at the end

[PATCH] smbfs: smbfs do not honor uid, gid, file_mode and dir_mode supplied by user mount
Hi, This patch fixes "Samba Bugzilla Bug 999". The last version (2.6.8.1) of smbfs kernel module do not honor uid, gid, file_mode and dir_mode supplied by user during mount. This bug is also logged as "Kernel Bug Tracker Bug 3330". I think this stuff is related to the "unix extensions". This patch offers to the client side the opportunity to decide to use or

Regression in nvfx-next since yesterday
Celestia 1.6.0 again shows corrupted rendering on planets, other parts rendered correctly with the latest git pull on the nvfx-next-5 tree. Yesterday's nvfx-next tree worked perfectly. -- http://www.munted.org.uk One very high maintenance cat living here.

Help! Looking for the smbmount-nomtab.patch and smbmount-mtab-flags.patch
I have cross-compiled smbmount(smbmnt, smbclient) using samba-3.0.24.tar.gz, then ported them to an ARM Arch machine whose /etc directory is read only. The smbmount command always results in errors """Can't get /etc/mtab~ lock filesmbmnt failed: 1""" Someone says that If we rebuild samba with the smbmount-nomtab.patch and smbmount-mtab-flags.patch, it would work

Patch: patches for smbmount opton documentation ( smbmount.8.xml )
Hi, I use samba on Linux 2.6 and 2G over size file sharing. It seems smbmount '-o lfs' need to use with large file. but default man page doesn't say this option. I want to edit smbmount.8.xml for lfs and unicode option. I believe using mount.cifs is right way on latest Linux. But one of the implementation smb_clients tools take this lazy option. Is it right way to change of man page

SMBFS - Input/Output Errors on Save - Kernel => 2.6.8
I have a Debian (Unstable) workstation which accesses Samba shared directories on a Mitel Server via smbfs mounts. All worked well up to an incuding kernel 2.6.7. After upgrading to 2.6.9 I found that trying to save a file to the share in Open Office resulted in an input/output error. I found this also extends to other programs. Subsequent experimentation reveals that the problem commences

smbfs intermittent errors: tdb_lock failed, ERRDOS 71
I mounted //winxp/linuxbu onto to a 2nd new mountpoint called /mnt/buonwinxp. I got same errors as you. So I first verified if password of the //winxp/linuxbu was wrong. With a wrong password, I got response as below: [root@treasury1 root]# smbmount //winxp/linuxbu /mnt/buonwinxp -o username=linuxbu uid=root gid=root rw Password : xxxxy 9982: session setup failed: ERRDOS - ERRnoaccess

mount.smbfs hangs while trying to connect to dead server.
Hi all, I have an automount setup. when some app tries to access a remote smb server which is unreachable (but the network exists), the mount.smbfs that tries to mount the fs basically never times out causing the app to hang. Is there a connect timeout option somewhere that can unlock this hang ? W

mount -t smbfs and msdfs...
Greets to all. I was just wondering if mounting samba shares and microsoft dfs are too far apart conceptually to work together. (ie allow someone to mount a dfs root and magically get access to all those shares listed under dfs) I have noted in the samba mail archives that smbclient cannot act as a dfs client (and tested it for myself) Is it a case of "implement it for yourself if you
