I would like to deploy on our network a centrally administered antivirus program. We're running Win98

Not enough file space reported from application
Hi, I tried searching the archives on the web site to answer my question, but for some strange reason, when I go to the search page, it kicks me back to the main page no matter what... so I apologise if this is a FAQ. I did try! :-) I have a share which I'm installing an application to. The program as it is installing, reports there isn't enough disk space. I know this not true as the

Question of the day for SAMBA GURUS!
Hi, I have a question that I haven't been able to answer from the docs. I wondered if someone out there has tried to do what I would like to attempt. On our server, we have mapped a share called wrkgrps to drive G: Users then have various directories under drive G: which correspond with their department, i.e. accounts, personnel, etc. Each of these directories has a share which I have

Password environment variable - logging the password
Hi, We?re migrating to a Cpanel hosting system. Our passwords are currently stored in MD5. I looked at the post login scripting to be able to start storing the plain text passwords as people login temporarily so we can automate our migration. It seems that the password is not available in the post login environment variables. Is there any way we can get access to the plain text password upon

Error compiling...
I am trying to compile Samba 2.2.4 on an HP-UX 10.20 machine, and I get this error at the end: checking configure summary... ERROR: No locking available. Running Samba would be unsafe configure: error: summary failure. Aborting config I looked on the web for possible causes, I didn't see anything that answered my question. This box that I'm compiling on is currently running 1.9.16, and

overzealous Windows security
Hi, I've got a MSAccess database on a linux server (fedora core 5, samba 3, 192.168.0.90) which a Win XP client machine needs to use (192.168.0.50). However, Access refuses to open the database because "it's not on the LAN so is a security risk". How can I configure Samba so that Windows recognises 192.168.0.90 as a local machine, please? Trigger a wake-up call from the shell?
I have set up a script that ensures certain services are up on my Asterisk box (Trixbox 2.0). I would like it to trigger a wake-up call if certain conditions aren't meant. How might I accomplish this from the shell? -- Donovan Niesen Customer Contact Services www.yourccsteam.com

Confused by modules
Hi, I'm confused as to the purpose of rsync modules. I know how to set them up in rsyncd.conf, and can list the available modules on a remote linux machine using 'rsync camlinux01::' from a Win32 client, but I can't find any information on what they are actually for. The man page for rsyncd.conf talks about them as if they are vitaly important, but the man page for rsync

MD4 checksum_seed
Hi, The following lines in compat.c are rather imprudent: if (read_batch || write_batch) checksum_seed = 32761; else checksum_seed = time(NULL); write_int(f_out,checksum_seed); Setting checksum_seed to a constant in batch mode means block collisions are reproducible and predictable. Thus, some files will be permanently "unlucky" in batch mode and will

Slaves under Squeeze
hi, I recently upgraded my Debian Lenny system to Squeeze, and have been happily running nut as a MODE=standalone system talking to my Cyberpower 1500 avr lcd via the usbhid-ups driver for a couple of weeks or so. No problems. Now I'm trying to hang another machine off the same ups as a slave, and it isn't working. The problem I'm getting is best illustrated by what

Random number generation
Hi All. (This is probably an incredibly stupid question :)) I have just noticed that every time I start an R2.3 session and request a random number (say with rnorm) that I receive the same number. AFAIK I have not set a seed at any point. Returning to an older version of R(v1.8) I get the behaviour that I have come to expect, where a new seed is automatically generated for each new session

Tuning for a large environment
Hello, I am currently using Samba 2.2.3a on a Sequent box running DYNIX/ptx v4.0. We are serving up approximatly 4.5 terrabytes of data from a Hitachi Data Systems storage array connected to our server by fiber channel. Many of our users are on Citrix which connects to our SAMBA server via a Gigabit Ethernet connection. There are still others that are connecting directly from their PCs which are

Permissions look different from Windows (cygwin & SAMBA) than from Unix
Hi, folks: One of my developers brought a SAMBA/ClearCase permissions issue to my attention for which I have no visibility. Perhaps someone has run across this before, and could enlighten us? We are using ClearCase 5 on SunFire 880 vob servers, SAMBA 2.2. Correct folder permissions for maildir....
G'Day, I am trying to find a definitive answer to what the directory permissions should be for my configuration under Centos 5.5. I see a number of the following error messages in the maillog as a consequence of permissions errors. After reading the FAQ, Wiki etc. and browsing the web I am unable to determine just exactly what the user security settings should be for the offending
