Samba Solaris->NT connection problem
Hello! I am new to the samba list, and am fairly new to samba (less than 4 months). I have an interesting samba problem that has me up against a wall at the moment. We have a handful of Solaris (2.7) boxes and a handful of NT boxes attached to a hub. We have samba installed on four of the Solaris boxes so that we can easily access them from the NT boxes without

Rsync lock-up
I'm getting some odd behaviour from rsync - a lockup when doing local copies. I tried to search the list archives, but I only came up with a couple of hits from 2001 indicating folks thought this (or a similar issue) was fixed. Situation: (OS is RedHat 7.2, Rsync rpm 2.4.6-5 and 2.5.5-1 exhibit the same behaviour) rsync is copying on the same machine (local copy). The destination is NOT a

Stupid redhat problem
I've got a stupid startup problem with samba under RedHat 5.0. Whenever I restart the system (I moved the server yesterday, so it got a reboot) samba doesn't startup. Looking at the /etc/rc.d/rc3.d directory shows there there is no link from there to /etc/init.d/smb. I put such a link in at some point in the past (after the LAST reboot, as I remember), and it has now vanished. This is

Is there a reason...
That smbpasswd doesn't obey the smb passwd file option in the smb.conf file? I've got the pre-compiled binaries for RedHat, version 1.19.8p10 and I'm just shifting from security = share to security = user. I tried to move the password file from /etc to /etc/samba, so that it would be in a root-only directory (as recommended by encryption.txt) and I've just found out that smbpasswd,

printer drivers question
I'm setting up faxing from our server using mgetty+sendfax, and the setup from http://relay.boerde.de:82/~horstf/ Basically, what this does is collect the print job normally via samba print services, then asks the user what number to fax it to. The asking is done by a program run on the user's system at startup called 'responder'. I have installed the print drivers on to the

Linux/Samba vs NT
I was having a discussion with a MS person about the performance of NT. I got this reply: ---------- Forwarded message ---------- By the way, I looked into that claim that Linux could outperform NT server, and my source claimed that the test was done on different hardware (i.e. it was rigged) and that Linux still loses to NT on equivalent HW, although "it has gotten closer." Do you

Installing R on 64-bit Solaris 2.8 --- follow-up
Hello R-users, thanks to Brian Ripley and Roger Peng for there prompt replies on installing R on a Solaris 64-bit machine. R is now running and seems to be doing fine. I realy would like to have access to the manuals so I can climb most of the learning curve on my own -- I am a long time user of Splus, hence I am not expecting the learning curve to be too steep. On the Sun machine that R is

Connecting virtual driectories in IIS v4 on NT to samba shares on Solaris
When using a cloned IUSR_<hostname> account on the NT server, we can connect a shared resource from NT server 1 to NT server 2 and publish it on the WWW from NT server 2 using IIS version 4. When substituting NT server 1 for a share from Solaris 2.6 using Samba version 2.0.0 it shows an error in IIS 4. We have tried using guest accounts, accounts with passwords, accounts without password

Samba 2.0.5a (Solaris 2.6) and NT SP5
Has anyone had a problem getting a samba share to mount on an NT system with Service Pack 5 installed? I have a share set up with guest only and guest ok set to yes and guest account = xxxx in the global section. I can get this share to mount okay on an NT system that has Service Pack 4 installed but not on the NT system that has Service Pack 5 installed. I have security = share set. I'm

Need to rename file copied using rSync from NT to Solaris
Hi, We want to copy a file from NT to Solaris using rSync. There is a job running on Solaris looking for this file. So we want to copy the file with different name and then rename it to what the job is looking for. (Don't want the job to pickup incomplete file) How can this be done with rSync? FTP can do this but it's use is not allowed. TIA

Trouble with permissions on printing to Windows NT printer from SAMBA on Solaris
I have been trying to get SAMBA on a Solaris 2.5 box to print to a printer on my Windows NT workstation. However, I am having some problems. I have no problems reading the disk or anything like that - only printing. No connection between NT and SUN system running solaris 8
Hi, I have just installed Samba 2.2.7 on a solaris 8 system (Sun ultra 10) and all seems to be OK, SWAT works and tells me that smbd is running as well as nmbd. My NT workstation also has found "something" on the net but as soon as I double click on the link, it states that the network path is not found. If I ask for status, both deamons are running but that's it. No shares or

rsync between solaris 7 and nt 4.0
I have a rsync daemon running on a solaris 7 server. I have installed the latest cygwin from http://cygwin.com and the associated rsync binary on a nt 4.0 workstation. On the nt machine, I am not running the rsync in daemon mode. Working from the bash shell of cygwin, I was able to rsync to the solaris server. However, when trying to rsync from solaris to the nt box, I get a "connection

Connecting arbitrary Windows NT users to SUN/Solaris 2.6.
I have recently installed BS-Samba version 2.0.0 onto our Ultra-5 SUN/Solaris 2.6 workstation into the /usr/local/samba directory. I took the example of the smb.conf file and placed it in /usr/local/samba/lib/ and made the following changes: [globals] map to guest = Bad User security = share I commented out the homes section and added the following: [%U] comment = Specify UNIX user home

rookie - mount nt share from Solaris 2.6?
I believe I know the answer, but I'd like to be certain, since I keep seeing references to things like smbmount and smbfs... Is it possible to mount an NT (4.0sp3) share onto a Solaris 2.6/Sparc? I just grabbed Samba 2.0.6. I suspect not (I don't see any smbmount or smbfs in my samba/bin directory). Will this ever be a possibility? If so, when? And, are there any other options for
