smbmount for Solaris
Sirs,
I hate to clutter your email with this inquiry, but I haven't been able to
get info otherwise. I want to mount shares on an Microsoft XP Pro server
on two Suns, Sparc running Solaris 2.6 and another Sparc running Solaris
8. What do I need for this?? I downloaded the Samba software from
sunfreeware.com but it seemed to just allow the XP to mount the Sun shares.
I hope you can help

Does samba work with clearcase (unix vobs --> nt clients)?
I'm hoping this turns into another case of 'knowing it works
makes it happen.'
I am involved with a unix clearcase installation which now needs
to work with nt. We have clearcase 3.2.1 running on both
the unix and nt side. Because we have checkin/checkout
triggers hooked to some unix-side stuff, we need the unix
views to be accessible from nt.
Does anyone have direct experience

"because you dance to disco and you don't like rock" [Win2000 vs Samba/Linux]
Hey,
so i finally got it working thanks to your list (found the right
place for EnablePlainTextPassword here, the existing 3-4 matches
in the default registry don't seem to do a thing).
It was all brilliant. I got connected to all my 4 samba servers.
I was happy... 'til the next boot (you know, during installation
of system, boots happen).
Now it connects to 3 sambas (1 on FreeBSD, 1 on

freebsd and smbmount
Hi,
I don't know how many people on this list use samba with freebsd , but I
have a question.
I have samba set up and can connect to my other win conputers using
smbclient but I am told that freebsd does not have smbmount.
i need to mount my win hard drives in order to back them up.
Is this possible some way with samba under freebsd.
Thanks

rookie - mount nt share from Solaris 2.6?
I believe I know the answer, but I'd like to be
certain, since I keep seeing references to things like
smbmount and smbfs...
Is it possible to mount an NT (4.0sp3) share onto a
Solaris 2.6/Sparc? I just grabbed Samba 2.0.6.
I suspect not (I don't see any smbmount or smbfs in my samba/bin
directory).
Will this ever be a possibility? If so, when?
And, are there any other options for

Permissions look different from Windows (cygwin & SAMBA) than from Unix
Hi, folks:
One of my developers brought a SAMBA/ClearCase permissions issue to my
attention for which I have no visibility. Perhaps someone has run across
this before, and could enlighten us?
We are using ClearCase 5 on SunFire 880 vob servers, SAMBA 2.2.

Samba and ClearCase
We're trying to use samba to let our PC's mount view extended pathnames used
by clearcase but they show up as empty. If anyone's used samba and Clear
Case (by Pure Atria) and gotten it to work I'd love to hear how.
thanks,
Bill

Second SAMBA Server different NETBIOS alias and shares for ClearCase
I have a SAMBA Server utilizing an LDAP backend for user authentication
and it works great unless I use ClearCase. When ClearCase is used the
compilation time for our code is slowed down to a crawl and the
ClearCase application is rendered nearly useless. As a test fix my boss
wants me to create a second SAMBA server to be used for only the
ClearCase server.
I don't know if this will work,

Samba, Clearcase, and multiple credentials
This falls under the 'getting clearcase to work with samba'
category.
Does anybody know if the clearcase albd server actually uses
samba to access files (or anything else) on the unix side?
I am having 'discussions' with rational (the clearcase people).
The nt user running clearcase to access some unix-side views
connects to the unix side using a set of credentials that have

clearcase and samba
FYI:,
I'm fairly new to samba (a couple of months now), and have experimented -
unsuccessfully - with getting it
to work with clearcase. Does anyone have a how-to, or a list of gotcha's for
setting up clearcase with samba?
Thanks in advance for any information you can send me.

Accessing PC from Unix
Can someone point me to an FAQ, or tell me how to access shared PC
drives from Solaris 8?
I've heard of the smbclient thing - does this allow seamless access - ie
can I run this, then say cd /sharedpc/c/somefolder?
Thanks for any help

question SCO Unix with WindowNT 4.0
I am using a SCO Unix system version 2.1.2 where I develop some
application. This SCO Unix system is connected to a TCP/IP network.
On the same segment also a NT 4.0 server is running. This NT server
makes each day a backup of some directories on the NT server.
what I want to realise is, make a NFS directory on the SCO unix server
pointed to the NT server. So that the applications developed on

Use of SAMBA with Rational Clearcase
Is there anyone out there successfully using Rational Clearcase with SAMBA?
Was there any special changes you had to make to get it to work? We were
told by Rational specifically not to use SAMBA and wanted to get the other
side. TIA

WinBind does not work well with Rational ClearCase (bugfix atta ched :)
Andrew,
Thank you for your suggestions.
The real problem is Rational Technical support. When you pay someone 100k+
they tend to look for any excuse to deem you "unsupported". If you don't have
your default group set to the clearcase user group, then technical support
will decide that thats where your problem is! I am sure you know how that
goes...

unionfs help
Is it possible to emulate a unionfs with zfs and zones somehow? My zones
are sparse zones and I want to make part of /usr writable within a zone.
(/usr/perl5/mumble to be exact)
I can''t just mount a writable directory on top of /usr/perl5 because then
it hides all the stuff in the global zone. I could repopulate it in the
local zone but ugh that is unattractive. I''m hoping
