non-root users cannot use smbpasswd...
...we are running a samba-2.0.6 server on a Sun E3000, to provide file and print service (but not logon service) to users on PCs. It works fine except for an enormously annoying problem: ordinary (nonroot) users are not able to change their own samba passwd. When a user invokes smbpasswd he or she gets the following response: euler$ /usr/local/samba/bin/smbpasswd Old SMB password: New SMB

smbpasswd failed for users
I have installed samba. Everything seems to be working fine except the smbpasswd executable file. I can change a user's password as root with no problem but if a user tries to change his own password, it would give this error: "machine 127.0.0.1 rejected the tconX on the IPC$ share. Error was : ERRSRV - ERRbadpw (Bad password - name/password pair in a Tree Connect or Session Setup are

smbpasswd for normal user
Dear all, I have set up file sharing for users' directories on a RH7.2 linux server. I am running Samba 2.2.1a I configured all Linux users who have the right to use Samba to belong to "smbuser" group. However, user can't change their password using smbpasswd command. Only root user can change the password for user. When user tries to change password using smbpasswd, the

smbpasswd problems
I don't have a solution, but then apparently neither does anyone else here! I wrote in describing this same problem (on a Solaris box) a while back, and several others since then have noted the same thing, but so far the only real response has been from Jeremy, who claims it works fine where he is. If you or anyone else figure this one out, it would certainly help a lot of folks...

huge data?
Hi Jay Emerson, Our Intention is to primarily optimize "R" to utilize the Parallel Processing Capabilities of CELL BE Processor.(has any work been done in this area?) We have huge pages(of size 1MB 16MB ) available in the system and as you pointed out our data is also in the GB ranges. So the idea is if Vectors of this huge size are allocated from Huge Pages the performance will

Running Samba 2.0.3 on a Digital Unix 4.0D system. All functions of the new Samba version appear to run properly (previously ran 1.9.15) with exception of users being able to change their own Samba password (root is only able to change password on behalf of users). Following is permissions assigned to smbpasswd: -rwxr-xr-x 1 root system 901120 Mar 31 16:06 smbpasswd Following is

NAMESPACE choices for exporting S4 methods
We are building a package, and want to create S4 methods for both head and mean for our own BigMatrix class. Following the recommendation in "Writing R Extensions" we use exportMethods instead of export in NAMESPACE (this is described as being "clearer"). This works for head, but not for mean. Obviously we importFrom(utils, head), but don't need to do this for mean,

Major bigmemory revision released.
The re-engineered bigmemory package is now available (Version 3.5 and above) on CRAN. We strongly recommend you cease using the older versions at this point. bigmemory now offers completely platform-independent support for the big.matrix class in shared memory and, optionally, as filebacked matrices for larger-than-RAM applications. We're working on updating the package vignette, and a
