smbpasswd on solaris clients
I may be mixing water and oil here, but with a recent upgrade I am discovering our solaris clients aren't able to update samba passwords. Our server is running 2.2.12 (I intend to upgrade to 3.0.x when I get LDAP working) with it's own password database. If I use the smbpasswd that came with 2.2.12 on the solaris clients everything works. however if I use the smbpasswd that

NIS+ and smbpasswd
Hi, I saw a similar question to this one in the samba list archives, but there was no answer so I'm going to ask it again. I'm running Samba 2.0.5a on Solaris 2.6 using NIS+, I've compiled it with --with-nisplus --with-nisplus-home. Samba is currently running using Plain Text passwords accessing the NIS+ database and I have "update encrypted = Yes" set so that the current

smbpasswd + ldap questions
I would like to have sync'd Unix and Samba passwords. My Unix passwords are stored in OpenLDAP for uniformity across machines and services. I have some problems with the standard solutions to this problem though: * if I have Samba authenticate from OpenLDAP directly (using the smbPassword attribute), then I get sync'ing problems when the password is changed via normal Unix means. authentication NT4 SP3 - smbpasswd
I have set up everything so that NT4 SP3 users can use my FreeBSD machine as a printer/file share fine. But it seems to me that every user I want grant access to my machine and is it even for browsing only needs to have an account and must run smbpasswd once on my unix machine. How can I let arbitrary users/workgroups let browse my printers? -- Chris Christoph P. U. Kukulies

strange Samba - NT4 domain connectivity problem.
Hi all. I'm having a strange intermittent problem with Samba 2.2.8a losing connectivity with our PDC and BDC. We are currently having a problem with our PDC restarting due to a bug check about 2-3 times a month. When this happens and the PDC is restarted or anytime it is restarted, we are not able to map shares on any of our 5 servers using samba 2.2.8a - the fix is to kill smbd and nmbd

/etc/samba/smbpasswd keeps changing - pulling my hair out
This is really bizarre. Running Samba 3.0.4 on SuSE 9.1. The password backend is smbpasswd. Each user has a system and samba account and everything has worked as expected until recently. But now, every new user I create is unable to log into Samba server (older users are still able to log in). Inspecting log.smbd the following messages are displayed: [2004/07/22 11:44:56, 2]

smbpassword and smb.conf
I have been trying to use security=domain and hence have to use smbpassword to create a domain account. Since my default setup has an smb.conf file in a non-standard place, my primary smb.conf file consists of [global] config file=/path/to/smb.conf.%h This works fine for smbd and nmbd but trying to run smbpassword returns the following error ./bin/smbpasswd -j DOMAIN No password server list

Change the smbpasswd from a WinXP client (without PDC)
Is there a way to synchronize changing a user's WindowsXP password with the smbpasswd? I configured a basic Samba server (3.0.10) with password encryption enabled. When I created the smbpasswd file, I used the same username:passwords as the WindowsXP user accounts. After the initial connection, users can login and map the network shares seamlessly. Users are required to change they
