Samba and system 390 Unix system services
I am new to working with samba. We have used samba for years connecting
our windows systems to Unix systems services on OS390. Starting in and
around November 2002 we can no longer connect. I have gone through the
troubleshooting techniques. Our Samba system is up running, the mount
points are correct and the config file tested out correctly. If any one is
doing this could you please forward

Winbind!
Hello,
I am running Red Hat 7.3 Samba 2.26 and winbind. I have been able to join
the domain and test all of the following with these commands. All works
great.
winbind -u
winbind -g
getent passwd
getent group
But when I set up a share to test with one domain user account it just
presents me with a password dialog box and does not accept anything. It
should not prompt me but if it does

winbind withoutt PAM
As I understood from Samba documentation winbind can run without PAM
installed; PAM is needed only if I need interactive login in the Unix
box of NT domain users. Am I correct?

Another winbind question (hopefully easy one)
I setup SAMBA to use winbind to authenticate of a WinNT PDC
In the smb.conf I have a line
template homedir = /home/winnt/%U
which is file
I also use the pam module to create directories for
new users
pam_mkhomedir.so skel=/etc/sambaskel umask=0077
which is fine again.
My problem is that I can't tell or how do I tell pam_mkhomedir
to create the directories in /home/winnt/<user>

Problems building Samba on SuSE Linux 8
I've been having problems building Samba on SuSE 8 (S390), and I've made some progress figuring out why.
The error is "Redefinition of structure statfs" during compile of smbd/server.c.
There are two statfs.h include files on my system: One in /usr/include/sys, and another in /usr/include/asm-s390, and they're different. The Samba include.h file includes the one from sys,

pam_mkhomedir.so and Samba question (was: RE: Script question)
Okay, I've got it partially working. Will that module also do it from a non-*nix login? For instance, say the user will more than likely never log into that server from a telnet session. Where would I put the following line:
session required /lib/security/pam_mkhomedir.so skel=/etc/skel
I'm running RedHat 7.3. In the /etc/pam.d directory, there are a bunch of different files.

workaround assigning domain group permissions on PDC clients
This is far from being elegant but it works...
Target: assigning domain wide group permissions on members (client) of
a Samba PDC.
Steps:
1a edit the file pointed by
username map
add
existing_Unix_group1 = "Domain Users"
2a log on a client with administrative privileges
assign to a dir/disk permission to the "Domain Users" being carefull to
select

Samba and large implementations
Hi,
we are investigating if Samba could help us to build a large
(say very large) file server.
We are thinking OS/390, 4 Tb, 20.000 users
Are we being plain stupid, or has this been done before ?
cu,
Frank.

known bugs/issues/gotchas
Hi sambafolks,
I see a number of topics cropping up here repeatedly over the last few
weeks:
* Files > 4GB not supported
This is confirmed and solved in 2.2.7a, but not in the current
incarnation of smbfs (which is not part of samba, I know, but will
get discussed here as a related topic)
* desktop.ini weirdness in profiles
I've seen this mentioned a few times with no sign of a

PBIB datataset
I'm looking at Pinheiro & Bates "Mixed-Effects Models in
S and S-PLUS" at the moment. Several datasets are used,
one of which is called "PBIB" (a partially balanced
incomplete block design).
All the other datasets can be found somewhere or other in R.
However, I cannot locate PBIB, and it does not seem to
be mentioned in the latest edition of the R Full Reference

After 5.1 update $releasever is still 5
I have performed the 5.1 update via the 5 repo on a couple of systems.
I then went to switch these systems to my new local repo using ther
$releasever variable. It still has the value of 5, not 5.1
Where is this set? Why was it not changed to 5.1?
On the one clean install from the 5.1 isos, $releasever is at 5.1 I think.

New post to data() function does not load a csv file in 1.3.0 (SOLVED)- a search problem?
Dear List,
I have found that moving the csv file to [working directory]\data directory
solves my "problem",
the file was loaded correctly.
But I thought that R serches in all packages\data AND the [workdir]\data
dirs, as mentioned in
help.
>?data
Is this as problem or am I missing something important?
(the latter is more probable :), but then why the behaviour is different

Quick Question
Apologies if there is a cleanly written and searchable FAQ that I could be
directed to. I have no problem to RTFM if I can find the FM...
Does Asterisk currently operate under RH9? I have IBM Netfinity 4000R
servers that do not support X windows under RH8.x and I prefer not to go
back to RH7.3...
BTW, where would I find a useful FM?

Stumped at "Network Neighbourhood", Samba server is visible, but it's path can't be found ...
Hi all,
I can see the RH7.3 linux box I've configured with the latest
Redhat RPM samba package in the Windows 2000 network
neighbourhood, but when I double click the W2000 computer
icon I get the message
"\\Linuxbox is not accessible,
The network path was not found."
The network is a small switched lan, sadly with only one unix
box (RH7.3) and a mixture of Windows2000 and 98

RedHat 7.3 or Centos 2.1
Hi,
I have a server that have an aplication that runs on RH7.3
and in Centos 2.1
Currently, it runs RH7.3 with yum updates from fedora-legacy
My question is, should I update to Centos 2.1 or stay in RH7.3?
What are my advantages of migrating to Centos 2.1?
My concern are more about security updates in the next 2 years.
Many thanks

intraclass correlation
Hi,
Can R calculate an intraclass correlation coefficient for clustered data,
when the outcome variable is dichotomous?
By now I calculate it by hand, estimating between- and intracluster variance
by one-way ANOVA - however I don't feel very comfortable about this, since
the distributional assumptions are not really met....
Maybe anyone can help me?
Best regards and many many thanks,
