Samba ignores printer options when printing via CUPS
Hi all,
I'm having a few problems getting samba to pass along settings for
various print options for all of our printers. Printers are set up using
PPDs in CUPS, added to samba via the cupsaddsmb command and then added
to windows clients via point and print. Unfortunately any print jobs
sent from windows appear to completely ignore many of the CUPS settings
such as duplex and print

Printer default document properties
Hi there,
we recently installed the latest samba 2.2.0 on a
Solaris 2.6 server and encounter some problems with the
default document propoerties of our printers.
The printer admins can set the properties and if we query them again
the correct settings are diplayed.
But if an application uses the printer the paper and duplex settings seem
to be wrong. They are always "A4 klein" (we are

Configuring duplex printing as default: how?
How do you get a printer mapped by Samba to allow duplex printing, or
better yet, to set duplex printing as the default?
We're trying to migrate an NT4 domain to Samba, with a Solaris 7
server as the new PDC and print server. If our HP LaserJet 8000 DN is
mapped via the old NT print server (\\OLDBOX\printer1), printing is
duplex by default, but the printer properties allow the users to
change

IPSec Racoon and Port Forwarding
Hello,
I have given myself quite the headache trying to make this VPN work correctly. I am attempting to use racoon to establish keys and construct an encrypted tunnel between one host(A.A.A.A) with a routable IP address and another that has a private address(10.0.0.2) with a cable modem(B.B.B.B) forwarding all ports to the private address(10.0.0.2). Here is a quick topographic dipiction of the

Printer settings on 2.2.5
Hello.
We are using a Samba 2.2.5 as a PDC on a Debian GNU/Linux server. This
server also handles a few printers, through LPRng. On the Unix side,
no problem (duplex, simplex, short-duplex), everything works fine.
I followed the instructions from the howto collection "Printing
Support in Samba 2.2.x" to make these printers available on
Samba. Most of the described procedure worked

Re: FRS over *
On the various technical issues raised here (OK, we posted the rules, we
won't discuss the legality anymore) I think there is only one main
obstacle to using FRS radios for extensions on *. They are simplex
(push-to-talk, release-to-listen). The protocol for dealing with
voice-activated-switching (VOX) has been used in ham and public safety
simplex autopatches but it's really tricky

force duplex mode for Apple LW8500 printer
Hello. We have an Apple LaserWriter8500 printer that has a duplex
printing unit. The printer is configured to print on both sides of a
sheet by default (e.g. if I print a document with unix lpr command,
they print on both sides). However, I couldn't manage to make my Win2k
desktop to print dual-sided output on that printer although I am
sending the jobs to the same LPRng queue (routed through

wins.dat keeps coming back with bad information
I recently reconfigured a box running FreeBSD 5.3 with Samba v. 3.0.7
running as PDC. It was servicing 2 networks, processing logons for
192.168.200.0/24 and 192.168.115.0/24. The reason for 2 networks was
security, 115.0/24 had some stuff on it that the users on 200.0/24
shouldn't have access to. Before the reconfiguration, the system was
working 100%.
To make everything better I flattened

Pinging win from FreeBSD
Hello Samba folks,
I thought you might be able to help me.
I have 2 machines, 1 is FreeBSD, 1 is win95. They can't ping each other, but
the bsd box comes up in Network Nieghborhood when Samba is active. What's
going on? Is it not possible to ping a windows machine from a unix box? They
are on the same hub via UTP. IPs are 192.168.1.x and netmasks are same
(255.255.255.0).

TCP/IP Slowness (was win98 vs win95 with TCP/IP)
Hi,
I had similar problems with Samba and speed. To begin with, I thought
it was a Samba problem, and spent a lot of time stuffing around with
smb.conf Then, just to make certain it was Samba and not a generic
TCP/IP problem, I tried ftp'ng a big file to and from the Samba server
from W95. Speed was only 20 k/sec - about 2% of the expected speed of
a 10-Base-T network.
Same for FTP'ng

Fw: VPN setup problem - proxy arp I think
Hi all,
I read the setup at http://www.blackh0le.net/articles/vpn-dun-howto.html to setup my VPN.
However, I'm having a problem which I think is proxy-ARP not working. I like to ask you to see if you know what's going on. When I ping 10.77.1.1 from windows XP machine the packets get to the 10.77.1.1 machine, but they don't have a return path to get back. When I do ping the windows

netbios name resolution stops working after device change
Hi there.
This is with regards to samba-3.0.23c, on FreeBSD 6.0-RELEASE-p12
Previously I had Samba up and running without any problems. Then I
decided to do a tiny upgrade by simply switching to a new motherboard,
while keeping all other hardware and software aspects the same.
However, after the upgrade, netbios name resolution seems to have
stopped working somehow. \\servername lookups no

/etc/rc.d/jail: losing IPs if jail_x_interface set and syntax error in jails /etc/rc?
Hi *,
I recently triggered an error when setting up a jail-host: I configured
the jail(s) like evry jail I set up in the past:
On the jail-hosts /etc/rc.conf:

Ping win/FreeBSD probs
Okay,
I'm starting to get excited now because I think someone from the
Samba lists has pushed me in the right direction here. To recap:
I can't ping my win machine (192.168.1.2) from my FreeBSD box (192.168.1.3)
and vice versa. Both subnet masks are 255.255.255.0 and ipfw is not running.
I loaded the dos config program for the card on my BSD machine (by booting
