Hi to all, I have a samba server that was working with security share in one subnet and now is listening on another interface, configured as a PDC logon server with wins support and w98 clients, I followed the howto: http://www.linuxfocus.org/English/March2002/article177.shtml The clients added to the domain execute the logon scripts fine, but they do not see the samba server in nethood, though

Windows rejects name registration
Dear people of samba, my problem seems to be a firewalled WinXP in our net. Our Samba is the Debian testing (Samba 3.x). It is configured to hold the browsing list and to become master. The nmbd.log shows: [2004/06/09 08:17:38, 0] nmbd/nmbd_incomingdgrams.c:process_local_master_announce(311) process_local_master_announce: Server PRAEPLAB at IP 129.217.168.62 is announcing itself as a local

Workgroup Browsing Issue and wins on 3.0.6
Hi, I am having an issue browsing my work group, i have made the samba server the master browser and it wins the elections. As far as i can tell from the nmbd.logs it is also collecting hosts for the workgroup but when you try to list the workgroup this error is recorded in the messages log : nss_wins[7417]: [2004/09/14 09:54:23, 0] smbd/service.c:make_connection_snum(570) nss_wins[7417]:

XP Join Problem
I've got a configuration like this working fine. I followed the 'Making User's Happy' section in the Samba Documentation collection. Try doing a: root#:> smbclient -U% -L FASITET to see if the server can see itself. The one thing that stands out to me in you smb.conf file is that you don't have netbios name setting. Try this then look at your /var/log/samba/log.nmbd

cross-subnet domain join issue
I am one hurdle away from finishing my test PDC with ldap and password sync. Its been a hair raising effort... and if I can solve this one issue, we'll be ready to kick our Windows PDC out the window. When I attempt to initially join the domain ( LOGOS ) from a win2K client residing on a different subnet, I get the following: -------- The following error occured validating the name

smbclient lookup fails when querying local machine
Debian Sarge, Samba 2.2.12 (legacy install), openLDAP 2.2.17, connecting to a PDC running Samba 2.2.8a. The machine in question failed DIAGNOSIS.txt step 3. I've got a really odd issue -- a Samba server that can "smbclient -L" everyone but itself. Samba still serves shares and PDC authentication works fine, but this failure is annoying, and as such, must be fixed. :) -- issued

Problem with master browser, Vista kills network neighbourhood
I have a Samba Server 3.0.23a running on a Fedora 4. Since Vista entered my lan I've been having problems with master browser elections. When a Vista client connects to my workgroup it kills the network neighbourhood and the only machines seen is the vista client and my fileserver. By changing the regedit entries on the client side following this advice: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SYSTEM

Win2k bringing down SMB
We have a small LAN here with NT4/98 clients. I reformated an NT machine and poped win2k on it, but as soon as I try to access the network, it takes over. It can access the samba server fine, but none of the 98/NT machines can see anything. Tried originally with 2.0.7-pre4, then i installed 2.0.7 final and experianced the same problem. Win2k has but to touch the network neighboorhood to wreck

good evening all, i upgraded my last samba 2.2.7a (dog2) this afternoon and have run into problems. first, the setup: windows 2000 clients three sites on three seperate subnets connected by t1 through routers. each site has a samba server that authenticates the users on its subnet. the workgroup name for each server is dognet. /etc/passwd, /etc/group, and smbpasswd are synced up manually.

PDC cannot become master browser; cannot change passwords
I am having two problems, possibly related, while performing pre-deployment testing of a Samba/OpenLDAP PDC with data that was vampired from an NT4 PDC. The Samba server fails to become a local master browser, and password change attempts (from a Windows client) fail. I followed Samba-Guide/ntmigration.html (taking some liberties with various items of configuration), ending with step #19.

XP pro winning election on domain
Hi all, Today our domain went down. When looking in the log it appears that a windowsXPpro machine won the election. The domain controller has an OSlevel of 65 (3.0.14a). Restarting the smb process (/etc/init.d) resolved the problem. How is it possible that the XP machine was able to win the election ? After the election the XP machine (of course) failed to become the master browser. But why

Upgrading a ctdb cluster: samba not listening on TCP port 445
Hi all, I try to update two clustered samba file servers. Right now samba 4.7.0 with ctdb is running on both of them. To update samba I stopped ctdb on one of the servers, and compiled and installed samba 4.7.1 with: ./configure --with-cluster-support --with-shared-modules=idmap_tdb2,idmap_ad,vfs_glusterfs --with-systemd Trying to start ctdb on the updated server fails with "
