Hi, 1. I want to migrate NT to Samba 3 domain without needing to rejoin all machine (using same domain name and SID). just curious, machine account should belong to what group sid? does it matter if belong to any value? 2. I just examine output of pwdump, some of member domain or even NT BDC is has "*****" in password field which means this account was disabled. I've verified that

pwload / reversed pwget
Hi, I would be *VERY* interested in a reversed pwget (see http://www.martnet.com/~johnny/exploits/microsoft/NT/WinNT.passwordhashes.deobfuscation.html) to be able to automaticaly set first-time NT passwords ('smbpasswd -r' will only work if you first enter the 'previous' password) on our PDC (evt. remote from UNIX through some tcp (ssh?) connection). pwdump for ASU (Advanced Server for Unix) needed!
Hi, We are migrating from Unix Server to Linux, so the ASU (Advanced Server for Unix) will be replaced by Samba. The pwdump for Nt is pretty for Windows NT, but I don't know if there is an Unix dump tool to transfer the ASU SAM database to the Samba's smbpasswd file. Any help is welcomed! Thanks in advance, Jianliang Lu Tiesse S.P.A. Via Jervis, 60 10015 Ivrea (TO) Italy Email:

Samba 3.0 and LDAP as a PDC
Hello all, I hope this is an easy one, I've read all the howtos but I'm still very hazy on how to do this. What I want to do is replace my NT4 PDC with a Samba 3.0 PDC with an LDAP backend. I've got my OpenLDAP up and running with the basic People, Computers and Groups ou's. I've put the builtin NT groups in too. I have Samba 3.0 functioning as a BDC The trouble is

Transparent migration of users to a samba PDC, how about cygwin tool ?
Hi, I would like to migrate from NT PDC to a Samba PDC. My main concern is that all my users have local profile (i.e. there is no roaming profiles). It seems that users profiles on a workstation are not valide when migrating to the Samba PDC. It seams that the users cannot keep the same identity. On the other hand, I would really like to change PDC without users noticing anything. Tools

Migrating WINNT to SAMBA PDC
Hello Everyone, I have read all the man pages and the "HOW-TO-PDC..." related to the operation and configuration of SAMBA. I don't however, see anything detailing a move away from WinNT to SAMBA PDC. Can someone point me to a doc or website that has helped them migrate as smooth as possible? I heard there is a way of grabbing passwords using pwdump, users uid, and the Domain ID.

Copy Passwords from Active Directory to Samba
Hello, I'm migrating from Windows 2003 Active Directory to a Samba 3 PDC and would like to avoid recreating passwords for all of my users. Is it possible to copy the Windows user accounts or just the passwords from the Windows box to Samba? I've read about the pwdump.exe tool, but can't find any reports of it working on Windows 2003 and am not sure if Active Directory stores

Converting from NT DC to Samba DC?
Hi all, I am in the process of setting up a test network to test samba as a DC with the acct information stored in LDAP (2.2.3a). The ultimate goal is to replace the nt4 (P,B)DC we have on the network now with a samba DC. I have read about the uid gid scheme of uid *2+1000 = rid but I am a little confused. If I use pwdump to dump the existing sam database I get numbers like 1036 for the

Machine accounts, Samba 3, NT Domain migration
Greetings everyone I finally succeeded in doing the seemingly most difficult thing, "following directions." I got my act together configuring the smb.conf and migrating using net rpc vampire into tdbsam. There are issues with this migration in which computer netbios names which are obviously all uppercase were not being created in /etc/passwd. I put my C cap on and converted the computer

NT username/password export
Sorry for all the newbie questions... I could have sworn I saw something about a utility that exports the SAM database from NT into Linux.. seems like it is the lego syndrome, saw it while doing WINBIND searches, can't find it elsewise...anyway...could someone point me in the right direction? I want to export my users from NT to linux with passwords....if that is impossible, I also have all

Replacing NT4 PDC with Samba 2.2.2
Hi Haven't seen any responses to my earlier post (Transferring PDC duties to Samba) so here's a slightly different approach I'm trying which someone can hopefully shed some light on. Is it possible to transfer domain-specific data from an NT4 PDC to a Samba 2.2.2 server, switch off the NT4 machine, set up smb.conf, switch on the Samba box such that the attached NT4/Win2000

Question about shares...
Hi to all ! I'm confronted to the following problem : I have a Linux box (SuSE 6.4 running kernel 2.2.14 & smb 2.0.7). I have configured smb to be the master for domain named essaismb. When I connect to this domain from a windows 98 box, it works fine. However, all the PC that are in my firm are not (yet) configured to connect to this domain. At that moment, they connect to a win NT 4.0
