truncated directory listing
Samba List:
Any idea why a directory containing 376 sub-directories would only show 162
sub-directories via Windows Explorer? The machine is a Sun Ultra 1 running
SunOS 5.5.1 and Samba 2.0.6.

Samba Masters:
I installed SP4 on a NT 4.0 workstation and now it cannot connect to any
samba shares. I reran the NT4_PlainPassword.reg script but that did not

Can't access Samba server from Windows NT
Samba Masters:
I have a couple of Windows NT machines (server and workstation) that are
having difficulty accessing a Samba server (1.9.17p4). When I try to
connect from the NT box to the Samba server I get the error message
"Account unauthorized to login from this station." The NT machines are not
configured to participate in a Windows NT domain (although I tried that to

label storage and conversions: DBMS and R
Hi R users,
I am new to using DBMS with R for large datasets. Thanks to all who responded
with useful suggestion to my earlier postings about using large datasets and
DBMS with R. I am writing to get some help about how to design good tables in
DBMS to take full advantage of the wonderful built-in facilities in R, like
labels.
I am using RMySQL client. Because R makes good use of variable

RoR, pg_connections, and pg_users
In a RoR application, is it possible to have individual userids
associated with particular sessions employed to establish their related
connections to the postgresql DBMS backend and, if so, is this design
desireable? What are the implications for performance and future
deployment limitations?
The idea behind this question is that in our application certain tables

tabular data (was RE: [R] Removing "row.names")
Hi,
I agree that replacing data.frames for modeling functions would
be too painful. Also I agree with Thomas that new class(es) for
tabular data should not inherit from data.frame, and that data.frames
should conceptually inherit from some other base tabular data class.
At this point I'm not suggesting anything in concrete --- I haven't
sorted it out in my own mind --- but I want

[LLVMdev] some undefined behaviors in llvm/clang
Hi folks,
Below is a short list of integer undefined behaviors executed by Clang
when compiling the LLVM test suite. They seem pretty self explanatory,
but let me know if not, if you cannot reproduce any of them, or if it
would be better for me to file bugzillas on them. This is on x64 Linux,
using r108984.
Thanks,
John

Linux DBMS to share with Win
I'm using Samba to allow my users to store their database on a Redhat 6.1
file server.
I've got some who want to shift to using Linux instead of Windows but the
DBMS they use is not supported (yet... I'm told) on Linux and I'm afraid
that multi-user access on different OS's are going to screw things all to
high heck anyways...
But that being said...

Which DBMS to use?
I'm currently trying to do analysis on a 565k record database of
Philadelphia's property assessments. I read the Data Import/Export .pdf and
am still conflicted about which DBMS I should use to maintain reliability
and ensure I don't crash while trying to do my calculations.
Should I go with PostgreSQL for the option of Proxy Data Frames or should I
go with MySQL for the "lean

A good DBMS for R?
<PRE>I am looking for suggestions for a good Database Management System to use
with R. The main use of this will be to format, query and make subsets of
large datafiles for use in R. I recall reading a comparative write-up either
in the newsletter, in the mails or someone's webpage last summer, but cant
seem to find it now. I will be thankful if someone can help in locating such

Effects library LSM decimal place errors
G'day,
I'm?calculating LSM for the following model, and am finding that R and
SAS give different answers.
Whilst the error is at the second or third decimal, the percentage
error can be quite large.
I'm using the effects library (Version: 2.0-10) on R?2.11.1 in the
following manner:

seeking hardware/software consultant to build system with 64-bit OS, R, SQL DBMS
I am seeking to hire a hardware/software consultant to
help me build a stem with a 64 bit OS, R, and a
SQL-compatible DBMS. Please contact me if you know of
anyone qualified.
Details:
I am in need of a robust system that will run R, and a
SQL compatible database. I will be working with large
datasets, and wish to take advantage of as much RAM as
possible, and therefore think I should use a 64

SAS to R - if you have SAS 8.2+
Hi there,
the attached R function uses the SAS Integrated Object
Model (IOM) and it can deal with SAS dates and long
variable names. All you need to provide is the folder
where the SAS data file is and the data file name
without the extension. The function requires the rcom
package.
This is meant to be first cut...but improvements and
suggestions are more than welcome!

Ackbar 0.1.1 - ActiveRecord Adapter for KirbyBase
Hi All,
= What''s New
This is a bug fix release. Jamey Cribbs (author of KirbyBase) has run
through Active Web Development with Rails, building the Depot sample
app on top of Akbar/KirbyBase. A few issues uncovered there were fixed
/ enhanced in this release. See the CHANGELOG for full details.
You can read all about his exercise, starting at
