changing group ownership of files
We are testing samba and are not sure if it is possible to change the group ownership on a file from the NT permissions dialog. The permissions box shows 3 ACL's, one for UNIX owner/group/other. However, we can't seem to change the group ACL to a different group. Removing the group ACL and Adding a new group ACL for a different group does not work. Is the group ownership only

domain logons across subnets
hi, I tried to make a win95 machine to perform a domain-logon to an NT server, which is in a diferent subnet, behind a linux-router. on this linux-router, I also installed samba. I noticed in log.nmbd, that the client always queries for a "0x1c" type, but never gets a response from nmbd. Thus , I "hacked" the "wins.dat" file, and restartet nmbd: HBLADOMAIN#1e

WINBIND on a VERY LARGE FOREST
Hi all! I'm trying to setup a linux samba server as a domain member of a SINGLE FOREST MULTI DOMAINS. The forest is a 2 servers acting as a global catalog. Other domains are child domain with implicit trust with forest. I setup a linux server with samba as a domain member to work with squid, authenticating users and verify user's groups membership. Limit on name size for cloned home directories?
hello, I'm running Samba 2.2.5 and we recently went through a user login format change. We have the "security = user" option and when the home directories are cloned with the username (firstname.lastname), only those users with less than 12 characters in their login are able to click on their user named folder. The temporary work around is to have long-named users click on the

I was trying to contribute to another post and messed up. The remark on the natiquette still stands, especially toward first offenders ;-). reposurgon and the conversion
My wife just got laid off - the recession has hit her law firm hard. This means my priorities have shifted to either finding more paying work myself or helping her find another job. This means the timeframe for a finished repo conversion just got more uncertain, as I may not be able to work steadily on it for a while. -- <a href="http://www.catb.org/~esr/">Eric S.

Cisco ata-186 port died
I use both ports on my cisco ata-186. I run them using ulaw. Today I made numerous calls using my analog phone on port 2. I picked it up about an hour after the last call I made and the line was dead. There is no power at all over the phoneline to the phone, and the red light doesnt light up. The configuration is verified as unchanged. Has anyone seen this problem before. I was

Fwd: Simulate nested data
I know this seems like a very easy question (and maye it is) but I've been trying to simulate nested data and been unsucessful so far.. I want to simulate a varying number of species within a group; and then create an array to store the results of my for-loop. For example: groups<-3 species$groups<-as.integer(runif(groups,1,10)) #species per functional group ###create arrays to store

Workstations on both subnets share their printers from win95. Win95 machines from both sides of the subnet can telnet to both ethernet cards on the server and can also ping all machines across the two

improving/speeding up a very large, slow simulation
Dear R help; I'll preface this by saying that the example I've provided below is pretty long, turgid, and otherwise a deep dive into a series of functions I wrote for a simulation study. It is, however, reproducible and self-contained. I'm trying to do my first simulation study that's quite big, and so I'll say that the output of this simulation as I'd like it to be is
