Win files from *nix?
How can I browse Windows from Unix?
I'm using FreeBSD 4.7, Samba, and KDE3. I'd like to be able to browse also
from command line.
I have not found instructions on use of smbclient-win32 and do not want to
use sharity. smbclien-win32 comes with and exe file and cygwin dll's - but
what are you supposed to do with them, copy the dll's to system or system32

Samba / rsync / archival storage question
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Hi all,
Let me start by saying that this may not be, strictly speaking, a Samba
question... but it very nearly is so I'm hoping you can offer some help.
I have a couple of Solaris 10 machines with the Oracle-supplied Samba on
them. I'm looking to copy logs from BIND to an archival storage
location. Solaris 10 does not support SMBFS so far as

writable shares between solaris and windows
One of our daily jobs needs to process a lot of files on a solaris
server and dump the files onto a windows server. We currently use
sharity to accomplish this. However, the performance becomes worse when
the files get larger. We want to find another approach to do this. The
reason we didnt use samba was that very few users have unix accounts and
they need to have write permission to the

Appleshare IP 6.2 and smbfs
Hi,
I'm having trouble connecting to an Appleshare IP 6.2 Mac that is
doing SMB file sharing from my RedHat Linux 7.2 box. I've looked and
looked and looked at many things and many SMB clients. I've tried
smbclient, smbmount, Sharity, and even just doing a mount -t smbfs. All
of them come back with something of this form:
Protocol Negotiation Failed
SMB connection failed.

smbmount for Solaris
Sirs,
I hate to clutter your email with this inquiry, but I haven't been able to
get info otherwise. I want to mount shares on an Microsoft XP Pro server
on two Suns, Sparc running Solaris 2.6 and another Sparc running Solaris
8. What do I need for this?? I downloaded the Samba software from
sunfreeware.com but it seemed to just allow the XP to mount the Sun shares.
I hope you can help

Unable to follow dfs referral - still a problem for smbclient & also freebsd smbfs
Hi,
Does anyone know if there has been any more progress on the problem of
browsing 'complex dfs roots'
see http://lists.samba.org/archive/smb-clients/2006-February/000622.html
Basically it occurs whenever you have a Microsoft Distributed File System
Tree where the links are to subfolders of the destination share.
Microsoft clients have no trouble browsing such trees.

Mounting of NT Shares on SunOS
Hi There
Do anyone know about the posibility to mount an NT share into SunOS (SunOS
and Solaris 2.x) operating system.
I know there is a solution for Linux(smbmount, smbunmount), but this does
not work on SunOS because smbfs is not supported. Is there a known port of
the software on SunOS...?
I have looked into using a piece of software called rumba(software to mount
NT shares via smb to nfs)

x filemanager
Hi there,
I've got two questions, and I'll list them in order of importance. (1) Is
there a way, or is there any research/development going into unearthing a way,
to mount a samba filesystem like any other filesystem under UNIX?
And (2), does anyone know of a good X filemanager? What I would really
like to do is be able to mount a Samba directory or resource and treat
it like any

rookie - mount nt share from Solaris 2.6?
I believe I know the answer, but I'd like to be
certain, since I keep seeing references to things like
smbmount and smbfs...
Is it possible to mount an NT (4.0sp3) share onto a
Solaris 2.6/Sparc? I just grabbed Samba 2.0.6.
I suspect not (I don't see any smbmount or smbfs in my samba/bin
directory).
Will this ever be a possibility? If so, when?
And, are there any other options for

I'm new to SAMBA and am somewhat confused. So I'll get right to the point.
Situation:
I am running both UNIX (Solaris 9) and Windows 2000. I have a system running on Windows

the UNIX (Solaris) box.
Solution?
I would like to be able to have the system on the UNIX box be able to read the files on

"because you dance to disco and you don't like rock" [Win2000 vs Samba/Linux]
Hey,
so i finally got it working thanks to your list (found the right
place for EnablePlainTextPassword here, the existing 3-4 matches
in the default registry don't seem to do a thing).
It was all brilliant. I got connected to all my 4 samba servers.
I was happy... 'til the next boot (you know, during installation
of system, boots happen).
Now it connects to 3 sambas (1 on FreeBSD, 1 on

Hello.
I just installed Samba 2.0.8 onto a shiuny new FreeBSD 4.3-STABLE
machine, and all seems well from the client side of things - I can
smbclient to other servers and access files and the whole nine yards. I
even have Sharity-Light running and am able to mount shares that way.
However, whenever someone tries to connect to my machine, they get

(samba ~ shlight): negprot protocols not 0-terminated
hello,
i'm trying to connect to my samba server from an openbsd system
smbclient works perfectly from the client, but if i try to mount the
share using shlight it refuses the connection and logs:
negprot protocols not 0-terminated
i was unable to find any occurances of this problem,
i've read that the field should contain the host's name as a zero terminated string.

RE: INFORMAZIONE
Hi,
Best you discuss this with your HP support people - cifsmount is a part of
the CIFSCLIENT software (based on Sharity client), NOT samba.
Sorry,

browse ntfs files from *nix
I am not quite clear on how to browse windows files from FreeBSD.
I have found two possibilities - sharity-lite and smbclient for Win32.
However, I have no idea of how to use smbclient for Windows. My setup is
FreeBSD 4.7 with Samba installed and working well. I can access kFBSD from
WinXP & other machines with no problem.
But how do I read files on Windows? Google wasn't much help...

user level authentication on Samba 2.0.0b4
First of, thanks to Robert Dahlem who pointed out that my "error 131" was
due to using a hosts allow statement, but not allowing 127. to connect
A new problem...
I compiled samba on Solaris (Sparc) 2.6 with v4.2 of the sun CC compiler.
It compiles just fine, and I appear to have a working binary. I run into
problems when trying to connect using smbclient. It works if I specify my
