Browsing from NT 4.0
Hi James, One of the things that NT does different from WIN9x is that it attempts to 'browse' using a null session. This typically means that SAMBA is going to try to make the attachement for the 'null' username as SAMBA's guest account (by default 'nobody'). On a lot of HP systems the 'nobody' /etc/passwd entry is set as uid -2 and gid -2. These uid/gid

pre2.0.7 KOI8-R bug
Hi all, There is a small bug at the new Unicode support. I didn't follow the consequences of this bug, but this _is_ a bug ;-). The bug stands on wrong charset name. Instead of KOI8-R (this is right) it's called KOI-R (this is wrong). (I'm afraid the long lines wrap, but it shows the picture) 1. utmp ut_syslen bug?
loginrec.c:794 /* ut_syslen is the length of the utx_host string */ utx->ut_syslen = MIN(strlen(li->hostname), sizeof(utx->ut_host)); But utmpx.h (on Solaris) says: short ut_syslen; /* significant length of ut_host */ /* including terminating null */ So shouldn't the code above add +1 in the strlen

Problems with utmp
Hi there, I'm using samba-2.2.2 under Solaris 8 and I've got the following problem! I have configured samba with "--with-utmp" and with "--with-quota" and everything works fine. But when look for the last users logged in, in the utmp-database there are only the first seven letters of the username, not eight that we use for usernames. Can you help me with this problem

2.0.7 pre2: creating shares with SWAT
Testing Samba 2.0.7pre2 I found that creating new shares with SWAT does not work, just the Samba-logo appears, but nothing else. -- Stephan D?hr <duehr@ID-PRO.net> (Support) * ID-PRO Deutschland GmbH * Am Hofgarten 20 * D-53113 Bonn * Tel +49 228 4 21 54 0 * Fax +49 228 4 21 54 59 * http://open-for-the-better.com/

pre2.0.7 disk quota bug:
Since an 'over-quota' or 'disk-full' message is being sent from Samba to the client, it seems obvious that the client _should_ be passing this info. on to the user -- but it isn't. One possible way to get this info. to the client is for Samba to call a shell script similar to the 'preexec' options if quota is exceeded. The script could then invoke smbclient to send a

Mixed Samba 3 & 4 Versions - Issue joining Samba 3 domain with a Samba 4 client
Hello, everybody. I'm trying to use a Debian 8.5.0 client machine (with hostname PCSCD850, 10.100.109.5 is its IP) joining an old Samba 3.6.23 tdbsam based PDC (hostname DSSC01, SCDOM is the NetBIOS domain name, 10.200.0.5 its IP). The machine was added to the PDC using useradd (unix) and smbpasswd -a -m (samba). Because there is a group used for the machines

pre2.0.7 disk quota bug
Hi all, SAMBA pre2.0.7 ./configure --with-quotas Linux 2.0.36 The old disk quota bug is still here. If user tries to write the file to SAMBA share and disk quota is exceeded, SAMBA fills remaining space within the target file with spaces, and writes it to the share. This is "xcopy" behavior. If the program writes small chunks of file, the result may differ. The user is under

Samba3b2, solaris, AD suport and libiconv.
Hi all, I am attempting to build samba3 beta2 for AD support, and I've run into a brick wall. I am using Solaris 2.7 and 2.9, with gcc 2.95.2, with krb5-1.2.8 and (now) libiconv-1.9.1 Firstly, I am getting errors of the like: Error loading module '/usr/local/samba/lib/charset/CP850.so': ld.so.1: ./smbclient: fatal: /usr/local/samba/lib/charset/CP850.so: open failed: No such file or

Strange file permissions
Hi I have a samba server with tdbsam passwords, and a share, PROJECTS, which is accessed by various XP home clients, the usenames and passwords being manually synced to the samba ones (less than 10 users, and only 4 workstations). There is one win2K machine, which is a domain member. Subdirectories on PROJECTS have g+s set, so only users, who are members of specific Linux groups, have access to

SYSLINUX 3.09-pre2: release candidate
It appears that increasing the command line limit to 1023 caused the .bss memory area to overflow. Unfortunately NASM didn't detect this as it ought to have and therefore I didn't catch it as an error. I have dropped the command line limit to 511 characters and released it as 3.09-pre2. This is a release candidate; please test it out and if it works I'll make it 3.09. -hpa

SYSLINUX 2.10-pre2 is out
I have released SYSLINUX 2.10-pre2. I *really* would like testing reports for this one, especially ISOLINUX, since I've included Knut Petersen's fix for Award BIOSes... Changes in 2.10: * MEMDISK: Handle images compressed with zip as well as with gzip. Some Windows-based image tools apparently generate these kinds of images by default. Patch by Patrick

Preparing the 2.0.3-pre2 release
Hi there, I'm preparing the 2.0.3-pre2 release. I've decided, as an exception (the second with the ones for 2.0.2, but hey, nut has a lot of late to resorb) to merge the USB improvements from the CVS Development branch. That means that the updated newhidups, as well as tripplite_usb and bcmxcp_usb if these are fine. To Charles and Wolfgang: any comments, objections, last things to be

SYSLINUX 3.73-pre2 (release candidate)
I have just pushed out SYSLINUX 3.73-pre2. This prerelease adds support for the fact that the ACPI 3 definition changes the E820 memory detection spec in an incompatible(!!!) manner. Please test it out, as I'd really like to push a 3.73 out as soon as possible. -hpa

Thank you - newhidups (2.03-pre2) works with my APC BackUPS ES 500
Hi there, I'm one of the maintainers of the SME Server distro (www.contribs.org) and we've been chasing this one for some time: http://www.contribs.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=352 http://lists.alioth.debian.org/pipermail/nut-upsdev/2006-January/000543.html Many thanks to Peter Selinger and everyone else who helped with the debugging and patches. Thanks, Gordon
