Solved: Connecting arbitrary Windows NT users to SUN/Solaris 2.6.
I managed to sort out my problem in connecting
+-200 Windows NT workstations to a SUN/Solaris 2.6
server running Samba version 2.0.0.
The idea was to connect ANY Windows NT user to
ANY Unix user. This seems problematic until I got
the following configuration:
[global]
workgroup = MY_OWN_WINDOWS_DOMAIN
server string = Unix server
log file = /usr/local/samba/var/log.%m
max log size =

pwdump on german NT
Hi,
I had trouble getting the pwdump program to work correctly on a german
version of NT4SP3.
I believe the problem is based on the fact that the german group
'Administrators' is called 'Administratoren', and Administrators is
hard-coded into the utility. Would it be possible to make that an optional
parameter?
Unfortunately, I have no access to a C-Compiler on an NT-station, so

Encrypting passwords for NT
I am trying to use Samba 2.0.3 with encrypted passwords. I have everything
set up according to the instructions in encryption.txt, and can authenticate
into NT 4 Server shares with smbclient. I can also attach to my smb server
using either smbclient or Win95. But NT4sp3 won't browse or connect.
That I can connect to external NT shares would seem to indicate that samba
is correctly sending

Subnet with no NT server
I'm having a problem connecting from an NT workstation to a samba server
on a different subnet. The NT workstation is the only Winxx machine on
its subnet. I set samba to remote broadcast directly to this machine's
IP address. I've also added this workstation to the lmhosts file on the
server and added the server to the lmhosts file on the workstation. The
workstation can see the

No connection between NT and SUN system running solaris 8
Hi,
I have just installed Samba 2.2.7 on a solaris 8 system (Sun ultra 10)
and all seems to be OK, SWAT works and tells me that smbd is running as well as nmbd.
My NT workstation also has found "something" on the net but as soon as I double click on
the link, it states that the network path is not found.
If I ask for status, both deamons are running but that's it.

I try to connect with a WinNT 4.0 client, I get the following errormessage
(translated from german, so the US message may sound a little different):

NT machines keep taking over my master browser
Hi all,
I have a machine running Samba (2.0.5a/Solaris 7) which is supposed to be the
master browser from my domain. It's been running fine for a couple of weeks.
But today it seems that some of the NT workstations are overriding it in
elections and are becoming the master browsers (and the Samba server is
giving up).
I've SIGKILL'ed the nmbd processes, but after they wake up they

Well done!
We need more momentum for Asterisk on non-Linux platforms.
Building a community around Solaris much like there is a
community around BSD, would be very helpful. This will
only happen if Solaris users start sharing

browsing shares/printing from NT doesnt work
Hi,
I use Samba 2.07 as shipped with Debian 2.2. I have two computers
connected in a network, a WinNT 4 SP3 box and the Debian box. With my
previous setup (Debian 2.1, Samba 1.9?) it was a snap to share the
home directories and the printer on the Debian box. After upgrading,
things changed a bit:
- I can still connect from my NT account to my home dir on the Debian
box with the same account

Using SWAT results in crash on Sun Ultra 250 running Solaris 2.6
Admins,
I've got a Sun Ultra Enterprise 250 running Solaris 2.6 and Samba 2.2.4. This system is one of the primary machines in our network, handling not only Samba filesharing, but also NIS and DNS. Last night, I made several changes to the smb.conf file that were not picked up by the running Samba processes, so I requested an smbd restart via the SWAT web admin tool. As I was waiting for
