strange nmbd problems
Hello,
We have three Samba servers running at our site. They are
1) Solaris 2.6 & Samba 2.0.4b
2) Solaris 7 & Samba 2.0.4n
and
3) Mandrake linux 6.2 & Samba 2.0.3
We have experienced this problem on all of the above servers. After a period
of time (just over a month in the case of the linux box) the servers are no
longer registered with the WINS server. We have to restart nmbd to

NMDB not bound to 127.0.0.1
After updating Samba from 3.0.20 to 3.0.21c NMDB is only bound to my NIC's
IP but no longer to 127.0.0.1 though my smb.conf parameters are
interfaces = 127.0.0.1, 192.168.x.x/255.255.255.0
bind interfaces only = yes
As a result SWAT does not show the status of NMDB any longer. Any idea which
parameters are different to 3.0.20 or is this a bug in 3.0.21c?

SWAT, where ? Got it, not working :-(
G'day....
Simple solution...
Uninstall samba/swat packages... Reinstall... test.
swat should work "right out of the box" ...
All the best...

And route print?
Do you have any servers on the WAN? (or is everyone connecting to the
servers THROUGH the WAN?)
Can you see the samba machines at all in network neghborhood?
What happens when you type in the UNC of a samba server manually? (i.e.
\\SAMBASERVERNAME)
I hope I can help you, and I'm trying, but I'm not a samba guru.

workgroup name, small nmdb bug in 2.0.6
Im running 2.0.6 on solaris 7 on an ultra sparc and have discovered the
following strange behavior:
Samba was configured with --prefix=/usr/local/daemon/samba
with this directory being a link.
/usr/local/daemon/samba -> /localhost/daemon/samba-2.0.6
smbd and nmbd are looking for smb.conf in /usr/local/daemon/samba/lib
and this is where the file is. Changes to smb.conf are noticed and acted

Uniroot and Newton-Raphson Anomaly
I have the following function for which I need to find the root of a:
f <- function(R,a,c,q) sum((1 - (1-R)^a)^(1/a)) - c * q
To give context for the problem, this is a psychometric issue where R is
a vector denoting the percentage of students scoring correct on test
item i in class j, c is the proportion correct on the test by student k,
and q is the number of items on the test in total.

Anomaly in sample() function
Hi all
Maybe someone knows a way to solve this anomaly in sample():
I like to compute a sample (n=100) with replications from a population of
2500 units but if I draw repeated samples from it I dont get what seems to
be a representative sample if I look at other partitions of the population.
Enclosed is the population g99 with 4 columns: (units, partition 1 (site),
partition 2 (type), weights);

sharing port with nmdb
Hi,
I'm a french student from Ecole des Mines of Nantes. Students of my
engineering school live in a residence with its own local network,
access to sun workstation at school for working and a Internet access
througth a firewall.
In each room of the residence, we have a RJ25 plug. We just need a
network card and a computer to go on this network. As you can expected,
our network is a jungle

SWAT, where ?
Hi there... first I apologise for being dim...
Where can I download SWAT from ? I've looked on the Samba.org site but it
only tells me that the demo page is off-line and no more info.
Idiot proof instructions for installing it on RH 7.2 would be handy too :-)
Thanks

SWAT Help Hyperlinks Not Working
All SWAT local help hyperlinks produce a 404 File not found error. I'm
using a new install of SuSE 10.0; SuSE 9.x did not have this problem. I
have installed samba-doc.

SWAT error - returns an empty page
Hello,
I have recently installed RedHat9 on my local server. It is meant to be
a HTTP production server for my company.
In RH9, SWAT doesn't come as standard. I therefore tried to install the
RPM package found on the red hat nerwork :
- samba-swat-2.2.7a-7.9.0.rpm and samba-swat-2.2.7a-8.9.0.rpm
I would like to report that both failed at installation. A dialog box

Samba SWAT 2.2.7 Doesn't Work in Redhat8.0?
Hello All Samba-list Members,
I have installed a Samba 2.2.7, the samba-latest.tar.gz, as a PDC on a
Redhat8.0 GNU/Linux server. ( Of course, I first uninstalled the original
samba that came with the Redhat installation CDs by rpm -e samba*.) The
installation was successful. Then I modified /etc/services and
/etc/xinetd.d/swat as suggested in the installation document uncompressed

help! smbd spawning Zombies when started with swat.
I am having a problem with my Samba machine, here are the details.
The machine in question is running FreeBSD 4.5-RELEASE on a Dual PIII/XEON
550.
I downloaded the source for Samba-2.2.3a and compiled without a hitch.
I also setup SWAT to run through an stunnel(ssl) pipe.
SWAT configuration of Samba worked great, but if I start the daemons(smbd &
nmbd) from SWAT, smbd seems to keep creating

broken swat when using socket address=xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx, v3.2.8
We are trying out samba 3.2.8. All of our samba servers have multiple network interfaces. With version 3.0.31 we were able to use
Socket address = xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx, 127.0.0.1
and nmbd worked fine as did swat.
With 3.2.8 that syntax causes nmbd to crash and complain about an invalid address.
If we adjust the syntax to use
Socket address = xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
Or socket

SWAT (eroneously) reports smbd/nmbd not working
hi all,
I just installed samba 2.2.0 on a Digital SMP server and I can tell that
administering it via SWAT is the bigest step since man walking on the moon.
but...
SWAT eroneously reports smbd/nmbd not working while they are working.
And even more, the smbd/nmbd [start]/[restart] buttons have dissapeared.
Why is that ?
