Kernel panic from install CD
I have a bunch of DecTOPs. Use the AMD Geode chip. Yesterday I upgraded one of them, and got the dreaded Kernel panic. Something about powernowk8. I could boot up with the old kernel, though. I know I have to put in a bug report on this, will do shortly, but first wanted to try a fresh install on another DecTOP. At the prompt, I specified: linux askmethod After it loaded the kernel, it

No grahical install on notebook with Centos 5, did work with Centos 4
Hello again. Working to put Centos 5 on my old Toshiba Portege 3490ct (256Mb memory). PCMCIA CDrom and Lan card. Using 'linux askmethod' to be able to install off of my FTP server (have done 4 PC installs so far off that server successfully) It's video card is: S3 86C270-294 Savage IX/MV After recognizing the video card I get the message about no graphical install available.

Centos 5 install failed compounded - no CD?
First off, there is no access into the bios on this unit It will boot from the hard drive or a USB CD. I have a USB DVD/CDRW. The system will boot from it. But if I just press enter to install off the CD, I end up at the askmethod menu. I press the local CD option and am told, no CD. Help?

Kickstart from floppy falling into regular install
I took my anaconda-ks.cfg file, cp to ks.cfg and copied to a floppy The isos have been copied to an ftp server. So I had the following lines in my ks.cfg intall url ftp://10.1.1.1// (yes the ftp server's directory is the Centos directory) This is along with all the appropriate network command to get the ethernet setup. I issue the linux ks=floppy (also tried linux

non-graphics install or fix xorg.conf?
Trying the to install on the OQO, and hitting up against one problem I see a lot in the comments about installing various distros on it. That is its screen size. So I could install using the text installation except... What is the command line for text install and askmethod so I can use HTTP to access my local repo? What do I add to 'linux askmethod'? And if I go the text install

Miredo 1.1.5
I found a src.rpm for 1.1.5-1 for fc8 (not rh8!). I was able to rebuild it on my Centos build system. The rpms are identified as 1.1.5-1.i386.rpm, no el5 or other identification was placed in the files. I don't see how to control this when you rebuild from an existing src.rpm. Interestingly the fc8 designation was lost. I also rebuild it on my fc10 system. It worked, and the rpms have

Compact Flash hard drives
Has anyone worked with either the Hitachi or Seagate Compact flash drives in an IDE to CF interface and set the up with EXT3 formatted partitions for use with LVM? I ASSuME that LVM is not for FAT32 formatted drives.

imaging a drive with dd
I am building a mailserver and with all the steps, I want to image the drive at various 'checkpoints' so I can go back and redo from a particular point. The image is currently only 4GB on a 120GB drive. Fdisk reports: Disk /dev/sdb: 111.8 GiB, 120034124288 bytes, 234441649 sectors Units: sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes I/O size

Is there a FC8 update repo out there?
So I need python 2.5.1, and all of its dependecies. And 2.5.1 is at least in FC8. So this leads to wanting to try to do the update right via yum, thus needing a repo. Does such a thing exist? I find a directory out there, but no repodata directory with it: http://rpmfind.net/linux/RPM/fedora/updates/testing/8/

Install from a USB CDrom?
OK, this is getting ridiculous. A relatively new HP NC4010 (1 year old). A maybe not the newest Storix USB CD/R-DVD drive. Of course the HP has no problem booting up off the CDrom. But then I get that blasted dialog of where are my install. So I go through the list and find a USB storage driver. It doesn't help. I do have a USB 2.5" drive case that I can put a drive in with the

Slightly OT: Anyone got a PXE bootable HDD low level format tool?
Slightly off topic, but does anyone have a utility for low level formating Maxtor ATA hard disks that can be booted from PXELinux (either as some kind of binary or as a floppy image)? I just went to get the official tools, but they only have a floppy creator (which won't help me in Linux, or without a floppy drive) and a CD ISO. And it seems 99% of 3rd party software is unhelpfully the

Installing TOO USB Drive
Greetings CentOS Fans. I'm working on an Inspiron 9400 Laptop. It supports booting from USB devices, so I'd like to install CentOS on a USB hard drive as an alternative to XP. I tried booting to the 4.3 (disk 1) CD, but it doesn't see the USB Drive when it gets to the stage of partitioning... any idea what's involved in getting the USB drive recognized so I can install

Druid Open Source Edition
I have recently noticed that druid @ http://www.voiceroute.org has created an open source edition of their platform. I downloaded it today and installed it on a play system where I have about 20 ip phones ranging from cisco, polycom and aastra phones. I didn't even have to configure them as the system automatically did it for me. I have been using trixbox/freepbx combination for over that last

Probably K9 not Outlook - Re: Outlook 2010 not connecting to secure POP3
no idea what you are talking about K9 is a android client and works fine with TLS no idea what has "https" to do with email nor why someone needs to "disable K9 long enugh" whatever "long enough" is - don't get me wrong but most technical context on several lists of you if it comes to details is cluttered and your permanently "i am working on IETF"

Moving drives around...
Kind of a newbie question here -- or I haven''t been able to find great search terms for this... Does ZFS recognize zpool members based on drive serial number or some other unique, drive-associated ID? Or is it based off the drive''s location (c0t0d0, etc). I''m wondering because I have a zpool set up across a bunch of drives and I am planning to move those drives to
