Using DDNS as a backend for WINS?
Hi, We've just added a dynamic subdomain on our DNS servers for W2K's Active Directory stuff. While I can't comment on the AD stuff, the DDNS (on BIND 8) seems to work nicely (so far - fingers crossed!) and replicates well between our DNS servers. Has anyone done any work on turning WINS lookups (of all record types) into DNS lookups, and WINS [de]registrations into DNS updates?

Problems with utmp
Hi there, I'm using samba-2.2.2 under Solaris 8 and I've got the following problem! I have configured samba with "--with-utmp" and with "--with-quota" and everything works fine. But when look for the last users logged in, in the utmp-database there are only the first seven letters of the username, not eight that we use for usernames. Can you help me with this problem

starting smb services at bootup on x86 RH6.1
I am running RH6.1 on an x86 with 2.0.6 installed with an RPM. I am confused as to getting smb to start at bootup. It works fine if I start it manually (/etc/rc.d/init.d/smb start). I swear, the 5.2 installation had smb start at bootup, but I can't find the difference between the two. Is the answer 1 - edit the /etc/inetd.conf file (swat needed a line uncommented) 2 - edit the

Samba3b2, solaris, AD suport and libiconv.
Hi all, I am attempting to build samba3 beta2 for AD support, and I've run into a brick wall. I am using Solaris 2.7 and 2.9, with gcc 2.95.2, with krb5-1.2.8 and (now) libiconv-1.9.1 Firstly, I am getting errors of the like: Error loading module '/usr/local/samba/lib/charset/CP850.so': ld.so.1: ./smbclient: fatal: /usr/local/samba/lib/charset/CP850.so: open failed: No such file or

openssh 2.2.0p1 and finger
Hi all, just I installed OpenSSH 2.2.0p1 on a HPUX-11 machine and it works. But when I connected to the machine and give "finger -R"-command then in the "Where"-column I see the hostname of the openssh-server instead of the hostname where I came from. Does anybody have an idea? Thanks Stephan -- LDS Brandenburg Dr. Stephan Hendl fon: +49-(0)331-39 471 fax:

openssh-2.9.9p2 session.c fails on Solaris 7,8 w/ SunPro C
FYI-- session.c fails from openSSH 2.9.9p2 with SunPro C compiler on Solaris 7, 8. The function do_pre_login had to be moved to before its use in do_exec_pty (a predeclaration would work). It does appear to work correctly, given the above fix. Still having the largefile problem (argh), so if anyone can help with /that/ ... -- Austin David -- Sr. Systems Architect Wink Communications

creating unicode_map.437 and unicode_map.ISO8859-1?
Hello, I am running HP-UX 11 with Samba 2.2.5 binaries for HPUX and I keep getting the error that Samba can't find the unicode_map.xxx file. Well, I notice that all I have in /usr/local/samba/lib/codepages is codepage type files, not unicode. Why do the binaries not include a compiled make_unicodemap? I did download the source and found the .c file for the command. When I try to run

Solaris utmp problems
Could all those who were having problems with utmp logging on Solaris please try the test release at: http://violet.ibs.com.au/openssh/files/test/openssh-TEST-2000053100.tar.gz Users on other platforms, particularly HP/UX, AIX and SCO are invited as well, to test compatibility. The login code is heaps cleaner now. -d -- | "Bombay is 250ms from New York in the new world order" -

Portability hacks + alpha HPUX1020 port
Hi, Attached is a patch to 1.2.1pre18 that includes a number of portability changes, and more a more complete HPUX10.20 implementation. Thanks to Ben Taylor's utmpx patch, utmpx and wtmpx support are now in for HP, with a few caveats. It compiles cleanly on HPUX10.20 with gcc, cleanly on Linux, and with a few minor warnings on Solaris 2.6. Most compat changes are made via autoconf which

[openssh-portable] utmpx and ut_name
Hello OpenSSH hackers, The last couple of weeks I've been figuring out how hard it is to replace FreeBSD's <utmp.h> with <utmpx.h>. I don't think utmpx is perfect, but at least it's better than what we have now and at least it has gone through some form of standardisation. I noticed POSIX says the following [1]: | The <utmpx.h> header shall define the utmpx

Suggestion: login.c->record_login()
Hi, A lot of the problems with openssh portability so far appear to be with the login record functionality, i.e. lastlog support, and variations on handling utmp vs. utmpx etc. Looking at for-profit SSH 1.2.27, login.c is rather embarassing spaghetti code, so laden with '#ifdef's it's almost impossible to read. OpenSSH's code isn't anything like that, but then it doesn't
