The use of goup policies in XP and Vista
Hi all,
Can anyone point me in the right direction to apply Group Policies from a
Samba 3.0.26 PDC to my Windows XP and Vista clients. I read chapter 26 of
the Samba manual (dated April 3 2003) and I was wondering if the
NTConfig.POL file in the NETLOGON share is the way to go here?

Joost.

Accessing Havers data from R?
Hi R,
Do we have R package to extract data from Havers data provider? For
example, just like we have RBloomberg package to extract data from
Bloomberg.
If not are there any other mechanisms to extract the data from Havers?
Thanks and Regards,
Shubha.

Refresing browselists and some Packet logging
Hello,
I am running Samba 1.9.18p10 using Linux 2.0.36 and Samba is configured as
a WINS server.
It's working fine but there are some questions remaining:
the first one is:
- when somebody who was connected to the network turns of his computer he
will still stay in the browselist for about 30 minutes. I was wondering if
there is a way to shorten this time. The wins.dat file is not containing

Lost connection..
Short update:
It seems that the workers go into some state in which they do not have a
correct Rails environment (or db connection). When they enter this state
it goes wrong all the time :(

How to generate bootable medium under Windows2000 ???
Hello syslinux
We are using a compact-flash as bootmedium for SysLinux and Linux 2.4.x.
We use an IDE to ComPact-flash 'converter' in the target.
So far, we have generated the boot-medium on Linux-host, via a
USB-compact-flash reader/writer,
and this works fine.
Our customer would like to generate new boot-flashes from Windows2000 via
SysLinux.com.
Now the problem starts, as

SAMBA question on Windows2000.
Hello all,
I have just installed samba on my linux machine, but failed to
browse Linux resources from a Windows2000 machine. But if i changed
the 'security = user' to 'security = share', i can browse linux from
Windows2000 box, i don't think i have problems with the connections. I
guess there must be something wrong with the password authentication
methods. I read the

Print drivers and Windows2000 clients...
Greetings,
We are running Samba 2.2.0a on Slackware 8.0 w/2.2.19 kernel with a mix of
Windows 98SE and Windows2000 Pro clients (about 60 98SE clients and 10 Win2k
Pro clients). We aspire for this box to be a fax server using Hylafax 4.1.2
and smbfax 1.4. Everything works fine for the Win98SE clients using the HP
IIP PS Cartridge printer driver from the 'Add Printer' wizard from Windows.

Problems with offline files on Windows2000 and samba-2.2.8a
Hallo,
we have problems with offline files on Windows2000/SP3 (also with XP/SP1) and

It works well on shares like eg. [home]. But we have a share which is
used by several different users to share their work. The smb-configuration for
the share is like this:

[work]
writable = yes
force create mode = 774
force directory mode = 774

I''m a bit surprised I can''t find anything about this in the mailing
list archives. Basically since Mongrel 1.0.1 I''ve had Mongrels fall
asleep without any real cause. A deep sleep, actually more like a
coma. The mongrel in question (I''m using a cluster of three) can not
be revived. A cluster::stop, then cluster::start is nessesary.
A ::restart would not

Cannot use \\hostname\dir in Windows2000 client's windows explore r
Hello,
I am using samba ver 2.0.7 and the samba is running on a HPUX OS10.20
machine. On win95,98 NT and even WinXP, i can simply type \\host1\dirA to
view the list of files in shared directories but for Win2000, will get a
prompt that Windows cannot find the path....
But the user already have and can access a drive mapped to the same dirA on
the host1 via the netlogon script.
