Win2k DC no longer authenticates for Samba shares
I have a win2k domain ... 2 of the client machines are Red Hat (7.3 and
8.0). I set everything up to use the DC to authenticate ID/PW. Everything
worked perfectly until a week or so ago ... Samba would automatically create
a home folder and the whole nine yards. Now I can see the shares on the
Samba machines, but I can't access them ... just prompts for the ID/PW over
and over. I can mount

problem configuring smbd for domain authentication
Hello everyone, I am trying to configure a Samba 2.2 server to allow users to mount their home
directories (stored on a UNIX filesystem) from Windows after authenticating against a Windows 2000
Domain Controller.
The Samba server is 2.2.3a compiled with acl support on Solaris 8. I think I am experiencing some (hopefully)
basic configuration issues and can't seem to get it to work. I

security=domain problems
Hi all,
We are having some problems getting a solaris 9(sparc) file server
running samba 2.2.2 to authenticate aginst a windows NT 4 PDC. Let me
say first that this was all working at one time, then we had some data
corrumption on our NFS mounted /usr/local, and had to restore from tape.
Due to some issues with solaris ufsdump and ufsrestore, stuff was not
quite put back properly. We do

problem with Samba in domain
Hello!
I have a samba fileserver (Debian Woody, Samba 2.2.3a) that I am
trying to join into an NT domain (smbpasswd -j ...); the command says that
it joined the domain successfully.
Then I setup security=domain, workgroup name etc. as outlined in the samba
howtos. However whenever I try to access a share on the Samba server I am
prompted for a password (even though I already logged in through

Problem with samba 2.2.3a configured to use domain security
I am having a problem with getting samba 2.2.3a to work with our current set
up. I used to have samba 2.0.7 working perfectly, but decided to upgrade to
try and get Win2k clients to be able to access the shares on the UNIX system
hosting samba.
When I try and access any of the shares on samba (it doesn't matter who the
client is) I get the following messages produced in the log file:

Problems with security = domain/server and samba 2.0.6
Every 12. day or so domain members changes passwords in the NT domain, and
after a while (5 minutes normally) the NT PDC starts to sync against the
BDCs in the domain. Before this syncing is done the authentication of new
connections usually fails. We have a pretty large NT domain with 40.000+
users and the syncing process can take up to one hour, causing samba
authentication to fail during this

Authenticating users using server=domain
Hi,
I'm new to this list, so sorry if this has been brought up before.
I've searched the archives, and it looks like I'm having the same
problem as Bill Gardner in his post:
http://lists.samba.org/pipermail/samba/2002-April/070640.html
Unfortunately I couldn't find any answer to that post in the archives,
so I'm asking here..
I have a Samba 2.2.3a server running on IBM AIX.

security = domain and Mac OS X
I've set up Samba on Mac OS X to do pass through authentication to
the nt domain in AD several times now. No big deal, it usually just
works.
Now, however, it doesn't appear to be working. Note the relevant part
of the transaction below (loglevel 4).
Steps to replicate:
a) Add pre-Win2K account with AD Users and computers
b) sudo smbpasswd -j EXAMPLE -r WINSERVER -U

HPUX 11.00 & CIFS/9000 Server - Domain authentication problem
Hi,
I have been using Samba and CIFS/9000 happily with security=user for
some time now, for simple read-only filesharing. Three days ago I
decided to get a bit more clever....
I now have a test server and I'm trying to get it to work against our
Win2K PDC (UKNT19), which is running Active Directory in native mode for
our Windows domain UKNT001. The UNIX server (uk209) is HPUX 11.00 and

Error Joining NT DOMAIN
I'm trying to use the documentation found with Samba-2.2.4 to set up a samba
server under RH linux 7.2 (kernel 2.4.9-21) to join an existing NT domain

code, compiled with the following options to configure:

AW: add user script going Horribly Wrong (tm)
(Oups! I forgot to send it to the list so everyone could laugh about it.
Sorry Vicky for disturbing directly)
Good Morning, Vicky!
Seems your smb.conf is messed up a little.
As I can see you're using security = domain. With this configuration the
smbpasswd-file/feature isn't need at all. Authentication is done encrypted
with the domain user database, not with the smbpasswd file.
