newbie desperate for help
I just installed Samba for the first time. Installed and setup like a dream. Unfortunately, I can't login to save my life. The server appears in the Net. Neighborhood, but when I double-click to login, the login window give the following message: Incorrect password or unknown username for \\SERVERNAME Entering a username and password (from /etc/passwd) returns: \\SERVERNAME is not

Multiple Samba Servers on one Linux Server??
I would like to have the ability to have both share level authentication as well as Domain level authentication on the same server, is this possible? Any ideas on how it would be done? Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Also, I currently have one samba server using domain level security. To get it to work, I had to add each of the users into the /etc/passwd file as dummy users. Is there

Install problems with RedHat 7.0 RPM for 2.2.0
I just went through upgrading from 2.0.7 on Redhat 7.0 using the binary RPM provided by samba.org and noticed a problem with the swat install. It seems that the swat binary in the RPM is built to look for it's supporting files in /usr/share/samba/swat whereas the RPM installs said files in /usr/share/swat. This results in the following error message when you try to access swat: 400 Server

Problems authenticating against NT PDC
I'm relatively new to Samba so please excuse any inconsistencies with my terminology. I'm running Samba 2.0.6 on Solaris 2.6 and having problems creating the Samba server machine account on an NT PDC. I already have an NT based domain 'PCDEV' which consists of a number of NT 4.0 workstations as well as a PDC ('AULE') and BDC running NT 4.0 Server with sp5 (??). My NT

Virtual mailboxes do not look into subfolders
Hi all, I have virtual mailboxes set up as "Smart Folders" to show me messages tagged with certain keywords. For example: # ~/Maildir-virtual/fwp/dovecot-virtual File MailingLists/* KEYWORD @fwp Messages get picked up from the File mailbox, but not for the sub-mailboxes inside the MailingLists mailbox. What am I doing wrong? Wrong separator? And how can I debug this?

OpenOffice ods spreadsheets in R?
I would like to open OpenOffice (LibreOffice) .ods files in R. I've tried the ROpenOffice package from omegahat, but unfortunately, the read.ods() function attempts to use the values of the first column in a worksheet as row names, and thus does not allow duplicates in there (which, even more unfortunately, occur in my files). Also, the function does not allow to forward any other

(no subject)
Hello all, I have a very large file (280k lines) containing three comma separated variables. The first variable is a 0 or 1 depicting a pass or fail. The other two are X and Y coordinates. Is there a good way I can represent this data in a chart/plot form other than using a 3d histogram? If I need to use the histogram, should I base my chart off the example contained in the RGL package? Thanks a

Trying regression tests
I know it is just after a release, but I'm trying to see how the regression tests look on Tru64. I hadn't had a chance to really look at them before because I didn't have sudo installed on Tru64 (now I do). Anyway, for the 3.9p1 release, all of them run except for a couple of problems: - agent-ptrace fails; it looks like setgid isn't enough to kill tracing under Tru64, and I

Odd question: memdisk emulate multiple drives?
Is it possible to have memdisk emulate multiple drives? Here's why I'm asking: I have a Dell server that I replaced the motherboard. I want to reset the service tag to the correct tag for the system, and the only way to do that is to run a Dell tool under DOS. I have downloaded the tool, but it is doubly-wrapped: a self-extracting ZIP file (which I unzipped under Linux) which contains a

Installing R on Xandros 3.0
Dear List, After obtaining a second-hand PC and because XP costs too much, I installed Xandros 3.0 (based on Debian) but pretty easy to use if migrating from WinXP. Does anyone know how to install R on this OS? Thank you for your time, Tom Volscho ************************************ Thomas W. ggplot2 used in a function - variable scope/environment
Hi everybody! I'm trying to use ggplot2 to return a plot from a function (so I can add something or alter it then). Unfortunately, if I add a mapping to a layer in the function, the variable *name* is stored in the layer, rather than the variable's *value* - so that after the function returns the ggplot2-object, it doesn't plot because the variable don't exist in the

Problem with bestfcom and old Ferrups
I have an old (1997) Best Ferrups (model FE18KVA) that I am trying to monitor for the first time, but all the Best drivers fail to communicate with it. In ups_sync() in bestuferrups.c and bestfcom.c, the "time" command is sent and a one-line response is read. However, on my UPS, that command returns the current time and then prompts for a new time setting. I worked around that by just

Enormous Datasets
Dear List, I have some projects where I use enormous datasets. For instance, the 5% PUMS microdata from the Census Bureau. After deleting cases I may have a dataset with 7 million+ rows and 50+ columns. Will R handle a datafile of this size? If so, how? Best Ferrups reporting uptime in minutes, not seconds
I had a power hiccup yesterday and a server connected to a Best Ferrups 18KVA shutdown. The problem is that the UPS is reporting remaining runtime in minutes but nut treats it as seconds (so nut thought it only had 46 seconds left). Simple patch: diff -urN nut-2.2.1-dist/drivers/bestfcom.c nut-2.2.1/drivers/bestfcom.c --- nut-2.2.1-dist/drivers/bestfcom.c 2008-06-13 14:04:07.000000000 -0500

No TTY prealloc; Tru64 can't do post-auth privsep
Well, after digging around and thinking some more, I'm giving up on the idea of preallocating a TTY to get post-auth privsep working on Tru64. I don't think it will work, because just allocating a TTY doesn't fix the problem - there's no valid way to tie that TTY back to the client process (because it hasn't requested a TTY yet and may not ever do so). The problem is that the

Problem with created ~/mail directory
If a user doesn't have a ~/mail directory and logs in, the directory is created for them. However, it is created with insecure permissions, 0770 (full group access). The problem is this bit in src/lib-storage/index/mbox/mbox-storage.c: #define CREATE_MODE 0770 /* umask() should limit it more */ The code then uses CREATE_MODE as an argument to mkdir_parents(), but mkdir_parents()
