Unix password sync: Any hints?
Hi! I know this is about the most asked question on these lists. I've
been searching the archives looking for an answer, but all I can find
is the same question over and over...
I'm trying to get the Unix Password Sync option to work on my
server. I'm running RH 6.0, with MD5 and shadowed passwords
enabled, and Samba 2.0.5a (the RPM version). When I try to

setting passwords from Windows
I'd like to change Samba passwords from win95 and NT4 clients.
I use security=user.
I don't give shell access to every user, so they can't use smbpasswd.
I've tested from a win95 client with the precompiled samba-2.0.4b.i386.rpm:
net pass \\greg greg test1 test2
I'd used smbpasswd to change greg's password to test1 on host greg prior to this. Here's the

Password Chat/Sync problems with 3.0.23
Hi,
Following an upgrade to 3.0.23, it appears that my UNIX password
sync/chat is no longer working (although I can't confirm it wasn't
broken in 3.0.21, it was working before). The XP clients throw up a "no
permission to change password" error when the users attempt to renew
passwords. I've carefully checked my password chat script and it
appears to be OK. The logs

Problem I am having with Samba 2.2.7a and Win2k
Hi ... I am desperate now to solve this problem ... this is my absolute last
resort attempt!
I have read of the problem on a number of posts/newsgroups/webpages - but
there a very little solutions - or causes - none of the solutions have
worked for me!
Basically my samba is happily running and I can connect to it fine from 9x
clients and from 2k client as a workgroup.
However..... If I try to

%o passwd chat parameter - Samba-3.0.0beta3 - bug?
The %o passwd chat parameter (current password) doesn't seem to be working in
this release. I'm running a Redhat 9 system that seems to require it.
Changing the %o to the current password allows everything to work so I'm pretty
sure it is something related to that parameter. Is this a bug or am I just
reading the log wrong?

Samba - Unix password sync
Hi,
in the last weeks I've unsuccessfully tried to get Samba (2.0.5a) -
Unix (Suse 6.2) password sync working. Maybe somebody can give me a
hint, what's wrong. Enclosed you'll find additional information.
Thank you for helping,

smbclient not using winbind to authenticate
Hi All
I am using the samba 3.0.14a RPMs installed on SuSE 9.2.
I have a PDC running on one machine, using tdbsam as a backend - this
has been running fine for months.
I am not trying to set up a standalone server in another office, which
should authenticate with the PDC using winbind, as per the "The 500-User
office" chapter of samba by example :

FreeBSD: Changing UNIX password - Password Chat?
I can't get my Samba PDC (FreeBSD 7,0-BETA3) changing UNIX passwords
from Windows clients (Ctrl-Alt-Del).
I now have the password chat debug active and I have loglevel 100.
I am not certain about the syntax in the password chat. But if I from
a console try to change the password of a given user (here testuser1),
I see these lines:

Problems with password chat
Hi,
I recently set up NIS on a Solaris 2.7 box that is running samba 2.0.7
as a primary domain controller. NIS broke password changing from the
clients (NT). When I turned on debuging, I see ...

Having a problem ...
Running a Windows 2000 domain; recently we've made some security
changes to deny anonymous users from being able to get at our user list.
It would appear that one of my Domain Controllers hadn't been rebooted
after that security change, and now that it has been rebooted, I can't
mount smb shares off of one of our if the security setting is in place.
