smbmount for Solaris
Sirs,
I hate to clutter your email with this inquiry, but I haven't been able to
get info otherwise. I want to mount shares on an Microsoft XP Pro server
on two Suns, Sparc running Solaris 2.6 and another Sparc running Solaris
8. What do I need for this?? I downloaded the Samba software from
sunfreeware.com but it seemed to just allow the XP to mount the Sun shares.
I hope you can help

posix me harder
People might find this entertaining and/or useful:
http://www.gnu.org/manual/autoconf-2.52/html_chapter/autoconf_10.html
With the help of Jos Backus I just discovered the answer to
http://lists.samba.org/pipermail/rsync-cvs/2002-January/001271.html
is that Sun's test(1) is breathtakingly broken when passed a dangling
symlink:
$ ln -s /nowhere bad
$ ls -l bad

machine name lookups
We have been looking for a way to notify our users when they
are running low on disk quota, without sending them mail.
WinPopup actually seemed like the best way, so my partner
began looking at feeding quota output into smbclient -M
when quota was getting tight.
The only problem is that smbclient -M frequently fails to find
the client's host name. The -I parameter will often fix it, but

How to reduce size of samba binaries
Hi,
I'd like to reduce the size of the samba binaries. smbd for instance is
about 1.5 meg, which is way to much if you ask me. Is there a way to
create smaller binaries, maybe by compiling differently?
thanx,
Dennis

pre2.0.7 disk quota bug
Hi all,
SAMBA pre2.0.7
./configure --with-quotas
Linux 2.0.36
The old disk quota bug is still here. If user tries to write the file
to SAMBA share and disk quota is exceeded, SAMBA fills remaining space
within the target file with spaces, and writes it to the share. This
is "xcopy" behavior. If the program writes small chunks of file, the
result may differ. The user is under

Slowww access from Win9x to Samba Shares
Slow connections
login isnt too bad ... 4 sec. tops
but its at least 10 seconds or more to access Samba shared Printers or
Directories. this is a 10/100 network using Redhat 6.0
with Samba 2.0.5a ... everything works great Except for access
times. for example Win9x --> NT its relatively Quick.
Is this an Authorization Default that checks every access to Shared
objects ? security is all

Xen network performance: default and ne2000
Hi all:
I use Charito to test xen default network(pcnet), and ne2000 performance,
to my surpise, the average throughput of the default is 40Mbps, but the
average throughput of ne2000 is 18Mbps, how can this happen?
Besides, I see from xen wiki that : "The default network card which QEMU
uses in Vt-x is AMD PCnet-PCI II Ethernet Controller. (*file

Problem with socket options after upgrading to Samba 2.0.6
Hi there everyone,
Again another slight thing I noticed since I upgraded to Samba 2.0.6 from
2.0.5a. I'm using RedHat Linux on a Celeron 400 with kernel 2.2.13.
My socket options in smb.conf is set to "TCP_NODELAY IPTOS_LOWDELAY
SO_KEEPALIVE SO_SNDBUF=8192 SO_RCVBUF=8192". However I've started getting
the following everytime I SIGHUP to reload the configs and stop-start:

99.9% uptime
Sorry, forgot to change the subject on my first posting.
I was reading a comment this morning about something Microsoft had published
to the effect that there were vendors guaranteeing 99.9% uptime for NT. The
guy who wrote the reply did the math for what that means, and the results
are very interesting.
Quote below:
OK, now what does a 99.9% uptime guarantee mean? Well, it means that

Files not found on UNIX.
Anyone have any input on this one. I'm running Samba version
1.9.18p10 on an HP9000 HP_UX 10.20. An NT 4.0 server writes files to
a UNIX directory and periodically a shell script runs to process any
new files found. Occasionally a file isn't found for several hours
after it has been created, then mysteriously appears in the UNIX
directory. So far this hasn't been a major

Performance (?) problem with Samba and NT
I've seen this question asked on the list, but never answered. I've tried
searching the archives, etc., but don't find anything relevant.
I have a network with several Win95 and 98 client machines and one NT4
machine (NT Workstation, not Server). It's currently using Novell, but I've
been testing a Samba server as a replacement. The 95 and 98 clients work
fine. When I

operator console
Hi,
My users are currently using an operator console interface like this:
see it at: http://www.whssf.org/interface.jpg
which came with a Praxon PDX we got about 5 years ago, which is now
unsupported,
it works very good and converts any analog phone plugged into the
system into a powerful console,
(provided you have a computer next to it)
you just provide the box ip, user login, user pass,

FW: [PATCH] Enabling ne2000 can work under event driven mechanism
Most of them bases on latestest Qemu.
The modifications are the below:
Adding logic in ne2000_update_irq() avoids exceptional logic. Another modification is the ne2000_can_receive(), "if (index < boundary)" -> "if (index <= boundary)".
Others based on lastest Qemu. But the latest Qemu adds new features, which not been added in the patch.
The qemu uses polling

getent not working correctly
Hello again!
Ok, I've gotten wbinfo -u and wbinfo -g working great
Now I try to run getent passwd and getent group I get my local users/groups but not the ones on the Windows 2k Server Domain Controller and it just hangs after listing the local ones.
I also tried authenticating a user and it worked I'm assuming
wbinfo -a DOMAIN+ingless@DOMAIN%"password" (The usernames here
