Samba4 AD cannot see machines in windows browser
Hi Rowland.
Them to understand, we have different paths depend on how we would like to
register our windows machines to our DNS.
1; By DHCP
2; Manually with samba-tool
3; Let windows handle this, here is my doubt how can our clients(windows
boxes) do this?
Exist a recommendation by samba team?
Thanks for your help.
Peter.

Hi, I used to be able to smbmount a drive on my XP machine. But today I
tried and i got:

Please look at smbmount's manual page for possible reasons
When I do
$/usr/bin/smbclient -L systen -I 10.0.0.11
I get:
Added interface ip=10.0.0.10 bcast=10.255.255.255 nmask=255.0.0.0

Cannot see linux machines from XP
I'll try to spell out the problem as best I can.
There are three computers on a LAN, "ADS1", "ADS2" and "DRS2".
ADS1 and ADS2 run samba-3.5.8-76.fc14.i686 under Fedora 14.
DRS2 runs Windows XP professional, SP3.
Each of them can successfully ping all the others by name.
They are all in the same WORKGROUP (GAMMA5).
The Fedora machines (ADS1, ADS2) can see all

Samba seems to be working - but Linux client can't see windows machines
I'm not sure whether this is a samba problem or not - but thought
someone on the list will probably know.
After quite a bit of fiddling - I think Samba is now doing what I want
it to - providing file and printer sharing for my windows machines.
However - my Centos 5.1 Linux box Can't browse the windows machines from
the gnome/nautilus interface. I know the windows machines are

Conf parsing error
Dear Timo,
I have found a conf-parse bug in rc10.
If the last line in the configuration-file a }, the parser ignore
this.
Example:

plugin {
trash = /etc/dovecot/trash.conf
}
brugh ~ # dovecot -c /etc/dovecot/dovecot.conf

NT machines can't see each other
I recently set up Samba on a sparc 2 running sun os 4.1.3. It's set up as
the browse master.
We have a few PC's running NT, 95, & 98. On the NT machines, only the
unix box shows up in the network neigborhood. Win95 & 98 are a little
weirder: some machines show up and others don't.
Any ideas on where to start? I've read the browsing docs and everything
looks correct.

nfs cannot see mount points on other machine
I'm having a bit of a problem with what I can "see" over nfs.
I have two machines that nfs their root to each other and it seems to
work. However, I now found out that some of the root directories that are
listed are "fake" ones. A comparison of the root on both machines shows
that some directories are the same and I can access those files on the
other machine. However,

Access Linux PC from other windows machines in the WorkGroup
Dear Sir,
I want to access my Linux shared folder from other
windows PC's in the same work group. I have installed
TurboLinux7.0 in my PC. It has got samba server
shipped with it. I made settings in the /etc/smb.conf
file.
Now we can see my machine from the network
neighbourhood of other machines in the workgroup. But
when we try to access the linux PC from other windows
machine, it gives the

Cannot see samba server from windows XP or 2000
I recently installed samba-2.2.8a on a RedHatLinux 8.0 machine. The
installation went smoothly and I verified that it was done correctly.
The problem is I am unable to see the Samba server from either windows
2000 or XP in my local network. I did also modify the smb.conf file
slightly, I gave my workroup a name and created a share, and some other
modifications. After I modified the file I

R vs. Splus in Pharma/Devices Industry
Following up to some extent on Friday's discussion regarding the
'validation' of R, could I ask the list group's opinion on possible
advantages of R over Splus from a pharma/devices perspective? I wish to
exclude the obvious price difference, which doesn’t seem to carry as much
weight as I would have thought. Besides, I have noticed many former Splus
users gravitating towards R,

cannot login from some machines after upgrading from 2 to 3
Hi.
I've got a strange issue here. Some time ago (in march ;) I upgraded my
FreeBSD-6.0 Samba 2.2 to 3.0 (currently 3.0.24). After creating groupmaps
and doing all the other upgrade tasks, everything seemed to be alright.
However, it was not possible to login from some machines (getting error for
the wrong password). After disjoining and rejoining domain with these
machines, it was possible
