VMWare Server doesn't like new CentOS installation?
I just got a nice, shiny new machine at work, a Core 2 Duo, on which I just finished installing CentOS 5.2 with a fair number of packages, SeaMonkey 1.1.10, Adobe Reader 8.0, Adobe Flash 9.0, mplayer, mplayerplug-in (both from rpmforge), and I think that was it. Then I went and got the latest VMWare Server, 1.0.7, from VMWare, pulled down their rpm, installed it, and ran vmware-config.pl, which

Success : clang/LLVM-built host kernel and clang-built VMware kernel modules for VMware Player 14.1.1 on host Ubuntu 17.10 x86_64
Hello All, As part of my clang/LLVM experiments and explorations with different clang-built kernel versions, I have tried to bring up other Linux/Ubuntu applications with their kernel modules also being clang-built. One such case has been with VMware Player 14.1.1. I am sharing this report for interested people that highlights my research and success in overcoming and solving the challenges in

Vmware No Longer Build on the New 693.1.1 kernel
Build error "Failed to build vmnet. Failed to execute the build command." when trying to compile vmnet. Not one other shred of data in the logs telling me WHY it failed to build. I have rolled back to the last 514 kernel to use vmware but I don't want to recompile vmware because of the liability of not being able to get it running again if the compilation problem is caused by one of

can browse/copy/delete file from samba's shares but can't print
Hi, We installed Linux 8 with Samba 2.2.5-10. Sambe gets the network pc's names and passwords from our PDC-windows NT machine. In samba.cfg we have: security=server password server = xxxxxxxx (ip address of our PDC) We have a printer on that machine and we want to share it in the network. W2000 machines print on that printer without problem. However when we tried to add the printer on

VMWare Workstation 14 on CentOS 7?
Hello, did anybody succeed in installing/updating to VMWare Workstation 14.0.0-6661328 on an updated CentOS 7 (kernel 4.9.54-203.el7.centos.x86_64)? Here it fails at building vmmon/vmnet modules. I couldn't find anything about this on the Internet.. WS seems to get less popular and unfortunately reproduces the same inability to install upon kernel updates, that drives me nut for years now.

connecting vmware through tinc on host system (linux)
Hello, i'm using a debian etch box (2.6.18-5-686) with tinc 1.0.5 for connecting to my office LAN. On the same box there's a vmware virtual machine running (Windows 2k). Now i'd like to connect this virtual machine through the VPN, too. All my attempts did fail... The virtual machine runs with a "host only" network (vmnet1). On the linux side i tried to configure NAT

Problems browsing from W98 on campus network with samba domain master
On my campus network, there's one wins server that can see every machine on every subnet. I want to provide access to all these computers to the W98 boxes in my workgroup. So here's what I did: I created my own workgroup, set myself to be the local browse master and domain master. So now everything works properly on my linux box (rh 6.0, samba 2.0.5a) and the W98 boxes in my workgroup

OT: Fortunate clueless dd chum - lvm recovery
Looks like the chum did not have to lose any data. Wiping out the MBR and the next 63 blocks apparently only wiped out grub stage1, partition table, and part of the lvm config data. I get to try to do a lvm 'recovery' at his expense now but this is my first time...has anybody ever tried restoring lvm config data back to the md/pv device? Cheers, Christopher

No longer able to browse windows share via Nautilus
I used to be able to browse the windows shares on the network through Nautilus. I can see them as computers, but when I click on them, it fails. (I'm on Ubuntu 6 LTS, AMD64) About 3 months ago, this failed. But, the windows boxes can all still access my shares on my Linux box. I was going through the trouble shooting, and found this out, but I'm not sure what to do next. I am

I'm not able to use samba and vmnetnat. Please help me because this is making me crazy. I use XP on an ADSL connection. PPPoE IP is assigned dinamically. Eth0 IP can be assigned dinamically or statical *tried both* RedHat 8.0 is the guest, XP service pack 1 is the host. I also uses sygate firewall on XP *but i set allow all for testing* Linux routes via NAT and it works fine (even DNS

slow backup using W98
I have been using Samba as a Windows server replacement for years, both in my shop and most of my clients. Recently I replaced a WNT 4 server at a customer location with a Linux box - Mandrake 10.0 - which is strictly a file server. The machine my client is using to backup his server is a W98 box w/ 350MHz/256MB, an HP Travan tape drive and Stomp Backup My PC V5.0. This backup was taking about 4

network problems
So, I have been running into network problems for a while on 4 boxes that I installed xen on so that some engineers have places to test code. This particular problem is happening on all 4 of these boxes. (although, it isn''t happening on an older box running xen from debian etch). What appears to be the problem is that traffic is getting dropped between the vif#.0 interface in dom0

x86_64 reproducible server PANIC with latest kernel
Our Tyan VX50 server, which is otherwise stable, can be crashed by a specific user who starts a Java application. Relevant facts are: x86_64 CentOS 4.3 fully updated (but otherwise default config) 8 Dual-Core Opteron 870 (2 GHz), giving 16 cores 32 GB memory (running at DDR333) The panic is reproducible within a couple of minutes. I tried the 2.6.9-42 largesmp kernel from J.Baron's website

W98-compatible sharing
Hi! The problem is that W98 doesn't ask user for username when connecting to SMB-share. This is not a problem when sharing between W98-computers, since those only require password for connecting - username is not taken into account. Problems start when connecting to NT/Samba-servers, which only seem to support two options: - username and password - no username, no password (guest) I have
