pre2.0.7 disk quota bug
Hi all,
SAMBA pre2.0.7
./configure --with-quotas
Linux 2.0.36
The old disk quota bug is still here. If user tries to write the file
to SAMBA share and disk quota is exceeded, SAMBA fills remaining space
within the target file with spaces, and writes it to the share. This
is "xcopy" behavior. If the program writes small chunks of file, the
result may differ. The user is under

root preexec & 2.0.7
I a have a problem resulting from a neat tool I developed through the use of the
"root preexec" option:
This is done in the [homes] section of smb.conf.
I launch a shell script with the user name (%u) and machine name (%m). The shell
calls a C program to check the users quota and returns a code as the percentage
of quota used.
Meanwhile, all output of the C program has been captured

winpopup
Hi,
I have a linux (redhat 6.0) print server and I am running samba 2.0.3-8
serving win95 machines. I would like the print server to send a message to
the win95 when a print job is completed. To do that, I run winpopup on
win95. However, if win95 users close winpopup, they do not receive any
message. Is there any more realiable method to communicate with win95
machines?
I would appreciate any

Winpopup help - will pay
Before I start I should say that I will pay $2000US to
get the information or code I seek.
I need code or protocol specs to be able to send
winpopup messages. It cannot be done via mail slots
because it has to work over the internet at large. If
you type in "net send x.x.x.x hello" on any windows nt
or xp machines it will send a winpopup using UDP ports
137 and then 135 (also 1031 and

sending "WinPopup" message to a user
Just wondering if there is a way to send a WinPopup message to a user
(using username). I have had a look at smbclient but it appears to only
allow sending messages to a computer name.
Thanks in advance,

print job complete messages
I know I've read something about this in the distant past, but i can't seem to
find any info on it now. I'm hoping someone knows offhand...
I'm using samba 2.2.8a and cups 1.1.17 to serve printing to some windows 2000
workstations. Cups is set up with raw queues and I'm using the windows
drivers available from HP. When the clients print from the windows print

pre2.0.7 KOI8-R bug
Hi all,
There is a small bug at the new Unicode support. I didn't follow the
consequences of this bug, but this _is_ a bug ;-).
The bug stands on wrong charset name. Instead of KOI8-R (this is
right) it's called KOI-R (this is wrong).
(I'm afraid the long lines wrap, but it shows the picture)

Sending / Receiving WinPopup on Ubuntu Linux Workstation
Greetings-
Perhaps slightly OT, but still involving the SMB/CIFS protocol:
I am searching for an application which would allow a Linux client (Ubuntu) to send/receive WinPopup messages.
The only one I have located thus far is LinPopup. However, it depends on the Samba (server) package. I do not want to deploy a bazillion Samba servers!
TIA!

PopUp messages
Dear all,
as you already know, it is possible to send short winpopup messages to
Win boxes using the command smbclient -M host.
If a Win user wants to reply, it should be possible to use the Windows'
WinPopUp GUI to reply, but the message gets lost somewhere.
For example:
smbclient -M winbox
Added interface ip=192.1.1.125 bcast=192.1.1.255 nmask=255.255.255.0
Connected. Type your message,

pre-/postexec in printers-section
Hi,
after updating our printserver from Samba V2.0.6 to V2.2.7 I encountered the
following problem.
Samba does not execute the (root) pre- and postexec within the printers
section.
If you are using these command in another section everything works fine.
Does anybody know if these command are not supported in the printers section
anymore?

Assistance request
Hi Samba team,
first I want to appologize for this spam, you probably get tons of such messages per day.
However I am desparate and sick of digging into newsgroups, mailing lists and everything else ;))
Since 1 year I am trying to find a way to make samba receive winpopup messages from Windows 2000, or Xp, using
the "net send" command.

Questions on smbclient messaging
I'm running Samba v2.0.5a on a RedHat v6.0 system. This server
provides SMB shares to Win98, OS/2 and Linux clients. Everything is
running fine with the Win98 and OS/2 clients, but I have a few
questions regarding Samba and Linux clients.
1. Is there a way for Linux systems to receive SMB messages?
Something analogous to Windows' "WinPopup" or OS/2's "Network

winpopup and Domain auth?
OK, yesterday I was asked abut moving an existing Python program from an
NT machine to a Unix machine. This involves sending a message to
winpopup. So, after some digging I found smbclient's -M option.
Well, it works fine when I send it to a machine that is not part of the
site domain. When I send it to a machine that is logged in to the
domain, I get "session request invalid".

Winpopup to Every PC
Hello All,
Does anyone know how one could send the same Winpopup message to all
Win-clients on a network?
I need it for building a fail-over system, in case our primary server
goes down, I need a way to automate the process of informing all clients
that they need to log-off the network, wait a few minutes and then log
back on, while the back-up server switches a few configuration files and

root postexec = /var/db/samba/netlogon/netlogoff.sh %U
