windows 98 and samba problem.
Hello, Whenever I reatart samba on my bsd or my linux machines windows 98 network neighborhood looses either machine, I've got samba set up as a wins server, and the 98 machine pointing to it, but this doesn't help. The 98 machine can see it's own shares, but not the samba server, any ideas? I'm running 98, freebsd 3.4 release, slackware linux 7.0 and samba 2.05 and 2.06. Thanks.

samba and case switching.
Hello, I'm using samba 2.05a on my slackware linux box and have just noticed something very weird. When I copy a file via network neighborhood in 98 to my home directory on the linux box the file is converted to all uppercase. Under windows even though it isn't case sensitive the first letter of each word is capitalized, but when I look at the files under linux they're all in

SMBMount v2.05a
Hi I have two different distributions running, RedHat 6.0 and Slackware 7.0. Both machines are running Samba 2.05a. When I try the smbmount command on the RedHat machine, it has no problem mounting the smb service. RedHat 6.0: works: smbmount //win95machine/c /mnt/c failed: smbmount "\\win95\c" -c `mount /mnt/c -u 123 -g 456` Slacware 7.0: failed: smbmount //win95machine/c /mnt/c

Hello, I'm using redhat linux 6.2, and freebsd 4.0-release, both of which are running samba 2.06. I'd like to sync up the nt and unix password files, I've added unix password sync = yes but that has no effect. Any ideas? samba, win98, and browse list problem.
Hello, Here's a repost on my message of a few days ago, for reasons that I'm not sure if it went through. If it did, my apologies, all suggestions welcome. I'm having an identical problem on slackware linux 7.0 and freebsd 3.4-release and windows 98-2, with sp1, and samba 2.05 and 2.06, depending on which system I've got up. Whenever I restart samba for whatever reason, making a

Samba and DOS
Greetings, Is there any way to get Samba to interact with MS-DOS? I am attempting to turn a Linux box into a VPN router for DOS clients. What I need to know is, can I get a CIFS protocol stack for MS-DOS, is a TCP/IP stack sufficient, are there any other solutions anyone knows about? Thank You. Stupid question: where is the Preferences box?
Good day! I am GUI-challenged, and proud of it, but I would like a bit of help. When I start netscape (picked from an Earthlink CD) it raises a message box that says (this is picked from --debugmsg +text and folded for mailing convenience): trace:text:DrawTextExW L"Error: temporary directory E: does not exist. Please enter a new directory in the preferences box.", 99 , [(0,0),(264,0)]

spauratic loss of machines.
Hello, I've got a samba/win98 problem. This occurs with samba 2.05a and slackware linux 7.0 and freebsd 3.4-release and samba 2.06. I've got two machines, one a pure 98 machine, the other split 50-50 linux and freebsd. All is looking well, samba is my local master, will always win elections etc. Both machines show up and all is good until I restart samba. At that point no matter which

smbmount case sensitivity problem
Hi- I've got a weird case sensitivity problem. I've looked through past messages but haven't been able to find a solution. This is an environment using samba to mount shares from a Solaris machine onto a Red Hat machine (originally done because of 16-bit UID limitations in Red Hat 6.x). Now I've upgraded to Red Hat 7.2 (samba 2.2.1a) and the share from the Solaris machine

I'm having one problem, when the user connects Dreamweaver, MX version, gives an error about can not determine the server time. I've added: time server = yes to the global section of my smb.conf file, but this
