samba 207 on solaris - idiot newbie questions
Hello all. I've decided to try using samba on our Solaris systems to give users who are stuck with PCs on their desks access to our gis data. I obtained a compiled binary package of version 2.0.7 from one of the samba.org sites, and have installed SAMBAroot, SAMBAusr, SAMBAman, and SAMBAdoc. All apparently worked just fine. I've made a couple of changes to the smb.conf file, changing

Fwd: RE: Newbie Configuration of 2.2.3a on HP-UX 11.0
It's good choice if You first upload Your version of samba with new version http://www.hp.com/products1/unix/operating/hpuxcifs9000/ (Cifs is SAMBA for HP-UX). I use this samba configuration and I have no problem: I suggest You to change security option in security = USER this is better and more secure.Security=share is option for old samba ! You must create unix users , samba users and

windows 7 professional Samba share access denied
Hello, I'm a newbie to this list and hope I'm in the right place. I have a FreeBSD 7.1 running samba version 3.3 with windows 2000 AD. I can access the share using ip address of the share machine but if I try to access using \\sambaShare\folder1 it prompt me for username and password, (it should not prompt me for username and password because i already login to the domain). However, I

newbie question - script/server doesn''t run without explicit ''ruby'' command
Hi, This one is probably an easy one, but is very troubling to me. I can''t just say: script/server and watch WEBrick start. I have to say: ruby script/server The first line in the server script is: #!/usr/bin/env ruby which invokes ruby just fine on the command line. For fun, I changed the line to point directly to my executable: #!/usr/local/bin/ruby But still, same result.

newbie - simple dialout server
Hello, I am new to Asterisk, so RTFM answers welcome too (just include the FM's link :). I'd like to build a simple dialout server based on Asterisk. I installed 0.4.0 from package (a Debian SID machine, "server"). The client is gnophone (a Debian SID machine too, "client"). My modem is a GVC 56k voice modem connected to the server's serial port. Attention newbies, an apology.. I WASN'T slamming you.
I'm sorry I gave the appearance I was slamming you. The tone was supposed to be "Please, help yourself first, here's why... here's ALL of the resources I use to help myself." I've successfully been able to keep questions about Samba to this list down to a minimum by first consulting all of my sources and perhaps you can, too. As I read it again, it had the appearance

Password about to expire -- Turn Windlows Client Password Ageing Off?
I have a Domain controlled by a (Samba 2.2.2 upgraded to) Samba 2.2.3a PDC, with unix password sync = yes The PDC (on a Mandrake Linux 8.X box) does not use password ageing, and we don't want password ageing on our network. We have a mix of Windows 98, NT4 and 2000 client workstations. Unfortunately, some of the Windows 2000 users who log in to the domain have complained that Windows is

!!ATTENTION NEWBIES!!
I've been reading this list for a few weeks now and I've given advice on questions that look challenging but I've deleted MANY questions like these: "How do I (easy question found in the documents)?" Though I don't count myself an expert, I've known enough experts to see that they _HATE_ it when you don't invest some time before asking a question. I too have

patch for TIS (skey/opie) *and* passwd auth via PAM
Hello, appended is a patch that makes it possible to use PAM both for password authentication and TIS (i.e. s/key or opie or any other interactive challenge/response scheme). I have developed this starting from the patch at http://www.debian.org/Bugs/db/61/61906.html on Debian with openssh-2.1.1p4-3. After configuring ssh with --with-pam-tis, there are two PAM services, "sshd" and
