Solaris 2.4 and 2.0.6: socket ?
Hello!
We just upgraded our samba-1.9.18p10-Server on solaris 2.4 to samba 2.0.6:
configure and compiling worked o.k., we didn't see any error messages.
we did not touch smb.conf
The NT-clients can not conect to the server: "Server is not avaiable",
in the logs we get the message:

Disabling storeing of cached profiles?
Hello!
I know that this is not samba related, but may be some one knows a
quick answer:
When using profiles, stored on a well running samba-2.0.0beta2 PDC,
the NT PC's cache the profile during a user session. As this
profile is not deleted on the PC and we have a lot of users with only
few PC's we need a lot of diskspace for this old profiles.
Is there a way (Registry Key, ..) that

Trouble accessing cov function from stats library
Dear all
I am trying to use the cov function in the stats library. I have no problem using this function from the console. However, in my R script I received a "function not found" message. Then I called stats::cov(...) and received an error message that the function was not exported. Then I tried stats:::cov (three colons) and received the error

for loop performance
Dear list
I am running some simulations in R involving reading in several hundred datasets, performing some statistics and outputting those statistics to file. I have noticed that it seems that the time it takes to process of a dataset (or, say, a set of 100 datasets) seems to take longer as the simulation progresses. Has anyone else noticed this? I am curious to know if this has to do with how R

Computing a Mantel-Haenszel chi-square using a continuous variable as the matching criterion
Dear list
I would like to compute a Mantel-Haenszel chi-square in which the matching variable is a continuous variable. The MH chi-square is used to assess the relationship between two categorical variables at each level or strata defined by a third variable. Specifically I would like to know if there is a straightforward way to divide the matching variable into levels, in which each level has a

FW: oplock break on excel files using samba 2.2.4
I'm having the same kind of problem too. Links to other excel workbooks
are really breaking badly. One of them so bad that if I highlight the
file through a windows explorer view; it kills the window immediately.
I'm using RH 7.2 and Samba 2.2.4 -1
Please let me know if someone has some suggestions ....
So far I've tried:
veto oplock files = /*.mdb/*.MDB/*.ldb/*.LDB/*.xls/*.XLS

hard_breaks issues
Hello,
I''m new to this list, so first of all, many thanks to RedCloth''s
developers, it really helps me in many ruby apps :-)
I post here because I''d like to have a clear view on "hard_breaks"
related issues. I saw old references on the web and on the archives on
this ML, I''d like a fresh view !
It seems that RedCloth 3.0.4 does not handle

Problem retrieving data from R2InBUGS
Dear list
I am calling the functiton bugs() provided by R2WinBugs to performs an IRT analysis. The function returns a set of estimated parameters over n replications/iterations. For each replication, two sets of person measures (theta1 and theta2) and two sets of item difficulty parameters (diff1 and diff2) are returned. The code used to obtain these estimates is as follows:

vesamenu back to text before booting
Hi,
I still have the question: when I have an environment that uses
vesamenu, for example on PXE, how do I configure it so that, for
some of the menu entries, it switches back to the text mode (03h)
before handing off to the next bootloader / kernel?
Thanks,

Still, requirements like this d?o? exist in the real world,
dismissing them is a, I quote, stupid idea. I?d suggest

Check your screen config (~/.screenrc, /etc/screenrc), in
particular the ?shell? command.
For reference, mine has:
shell "-${SHELL}"
And the environment variable $SHELL is /bin/mksh (so a full

Question about stderr output containing carriage return External

When the terminal is in raw mode, \n is not the line separator
but \x0D\x0A is: \x0D moves the cursor to the beginning of the
line and \x0A moves it to one line below but does not change
the horizontal position.
So it?s a requirement when in raw mode and doesn?t hurt in
cooked mode.

Of course you?d lose the ability to run multiple commands, redirect
