IPMASQ and lock-up of all terminals
[mod: This is the second time in a week that someone asks this question: is it a new attack? It sure looks to me like "userland" has completely locked up, but that the kernel is still working. As an isolated case, my diagnosis is: You probably have a bad block in your /bin/login program or something like that. When two people report this in a week, it's starting to become unlikely

Plotting the explanatory against the dependent in a GAM
? To whoever it may correspond, My name is Oscar Saenz and I am working on my thesis in Spain. I am using GAMs in "R" and, now that I have estimated my models, I need to plot the predicted smooth functions against the dependent variable (just as in Carlslaw et al. 2007, fig. 1*). Otherwise, I'd like to know how to plot the smoothed predictor variable values against the partial

smbmount intermittent problems
I use smbmount to mount a number of NT shares from around a global network in order to sync from a master distribution which resides in linux. Specifically... uklnxsrv$ smbmount //NTSRV/share -c 'mount /tmp/temporary_mount -u 502 -g 510' -U guest%guest_passwd Frequently it works well, but from time to time the mounted NT share, for lack of a better word gets corrupted. Here are the

User's smbd processes don't get killed
Hi, all. Last saturday, we've done a cutover for Samba 2.0.5a to be our new fileserver. All is going well, except for two network users that make me reboot the server. What happens is as follows: * user logs on onto samba server; * user opens and closes files, etc, OK until in one of these operations his/her machine hangs; * user reboots his/her machine to log on again. In this

1.2pre17 scp Input/Output error
Under OpenSSH 1.2pre17 I can duplicate and Input/Output error for scp: Conditions: pc36 is a RH6.0/i386 box. abc.co.za is a RH5.2/i386 box. (private network) openssh 1.2 pre 17 on both boxes. Line between them is a 128k leased line. It works between two 10baseT machines. If the scrollbar is active, the scp fails, if it isn't active, scp works. Note that without the scrollbar, the file gets

Printing from Linux to Win98
I have a printer - an HP 1120c - connected to my wife's Win98 machine. Occasionally I would like to print to that printer instead of the HP Laserjet 4+ connected to my Linux machine. Could someone explain a couple of things for me? 1. I am running Mandrake 6.0. When I start printtool, it complains that it does not believe Samba is installed. Why and how do I fix? 2. I ignore the message and

Problems with Intel Netport Printserver and Samba
Running RH6.0 I am able to print just fine from linux, the problem now is getting smb printing working. I am using an Intel Netport Express PRO/100 printserver. Previous to my upgrade from RH5.2 when I had the printer directly connected to the samba server, I was able to print just fine from the windows client machines (not using the raw method) My /etc/printcap is as follows ##PRINTTOOL3##

LPRng question
<It seems that the print command is trying to find the printer at location 'localhost'. Since this is a network printer it is not at localhost is it?> Yeah, the error messages made no sense to me either! Well, like I said earlier: < The IP address of this printer is 10.1.1.192. I call this printer nero, and have it listed in my /etc/hosts file> Here is a copy of part of my

Network Neighborhood shows Linux icon doesn't allow to open, debug Marathon
After going through the /usr/doc/samba-1.9.17p4/DIAGNOSIS.txt file (GREAT debug/diagnostic tool!!!!!!!) I'm closer than ever!!!!!!!! I now SEE THE Linux machine name in my Network Neighborhood!!!!!!!!! I can ping both machines without any problem from both machines (W98 and Red Hat 5.1). I have edited the registry to allow plain text passwords. When I try net view from my W98 machine I see

Seeing two different user folders!!!!!
In my high school computer lab I have Red HAt 5.0 with SAMBA being used as a file server. The kids are getting used to it. But recently I'm seeing something strange. A student with id "james" will log on Windows 95, go to network neighborhood and to the Linux computer and find there among other normal items two folders. The first will be his own folder with his id, but the second

Script for removing stale sessions: version for RH6.0? [Offtopic?]
Hello, people at SAMBA list. I'm going thru the same problem that Nicholas Williams has described in samba-list first (see references below), and I'm implementing the solution you've decribed in the list (SO_KEEPALIVE, etc). But I'm stuck with the script issue, as I run RedHat Linux 6.0 which doesn't use ksh but pdksh instead. The ksh script doesn't run in pdksh

Windows File Attributes are Read-Only
I created a Samba share, I'm able to map a network drive to it from my Windows XP computer. I am able to read, write, delete files without any problem. I use the mapped drive and I install a program that will have it's files accessed by Windows computers. No problem so far. If I check the properties of any file or folder its Read-Only attribute is checked and I can't uncheck it. On

samba task switchin'?
Hello! There is a problem with samba (tested: 2.0.5 6 and pre7) tested on Linux RH 5.2 RH6.0 and FreeBSD 3.3 and 3.4 (all the same result!) The problem is a group of programs written in Clarion ( still in active development, and working on different 1000000+ PC in many network/single configurations). This is some kind of financial/management software for small bussines. Databases are about 500K
