clearcase and samba
FYI:,
I'm fairly new to samba (a couple of months now), and have experimented -
unsuccessfully - with getting it
to work with clearcase. Does anyone have a how-to, or a list of gotcha's for
setting up clearcase with samba?
Thanks in advance for any information you can send me.

Unexpected "Access Denied"
Background:
This situation is using Rational ClearCase in a situation with server on
Solaris 10
and clients on a mixture of Windows XP and Windows 7, with access to the
VOB (repository) enabled via Samba version: 3.4.9
Users are getting a consistent error with a specific ClearCase operation
(Add to Source Control), which we have traced to a Samba interaction.
The issue:

Clearcase, Samba, and mnode values
Hi all --
I recently temporarily deployed an upgraded Clearcase server (7.1.2.3)
on 64 bit RHEL 5.6. With it I was using Redhat's release of Samba for
that version of the OS -- 3.0.33. The system has 32 GB of memory
and within 12 hours, it would be down into swap. Maximum active
licenses used is 36 but a more typical load is 18-25 users having a
Clearcase license at once. Clearcase

ClearCase Interop problem with recent Samba versions
Dear all,
I have a SUN server running as ClearCase view-server and am using Samba
for Interop. Today I updated Samba from 3.0.21c to 3.0.24 and now I
cannot mount/start my views from windows!!
MVFS error log on my windows client gives "{8 pid/tid 49800000c58/85fdf178} MvfsFsNotification: Unsupported filesystem type (6)"
Samba logs don't show any error...

Accesing shares from ClearCase
Hi all,
Just a novice in this world of Samba.
I got a question, probably too simple.
No problem to access share file systems and mount ClearCase
vobs. Log shows access granted to NT userid belonging to the
right UNIX group.
Then, editing a file ( using a view thru Explorer), log shows
another non authenticate user called clearcase_albd trying to
be validated.
I guess due to

Samba and ClearCase
We're trying to use samba to let our PC's mount view extended pathnames used
by clearcase but they show up as empty. If anyone's used samba and Clear
Case (by Pure Atria) and gotten it to work I'd love to hear how.
thanks,
Bill

Unable to join domain: FAIDHC01SDCG0402
Hi.
I am trying to configure Samba in Domain security mode. I am on a Sun box running Solaris 9 and Samba 3.0.23.
A computer account for this Unix Box is configured in the AD Domain (FAFIDDOM) but I am having issues running net rpc join. I am not planning to use winbind as the samba shares that I want to create are going to be used by ClearCase (Rational Configuration Management Tool). ClearCase

Problems with Winbind Idmap and Active Directory 2008 r2
For our Linux Machines (SLES 10) we are using kerberos and LDAP to
authenticate against Active Directory (works perfectly)
Please note that the same configuration works with Windows 2003 Server, the
problem is with with Windows 2008 Server
However we are experiencing problems with winbind for the file share, I see
in the "log.winbind-idmap" logfile the following errors

Second SAMBA Server different NETBIOS alias and shares for ClearCase
I have a SAMBA Server utilizing an LDAP backend for user authentication
and it works great unless I use ClearCase. When ClearCase is used the
compilation time for our code is slowed down to a crawl and the
ClearCase application is rendered nearly useless. As a test fix my boss
wants me to create a second SAMBA server to be used for only the
ClearCase server.
I don't know if this will work,

weird problem
Hi there,
I ran into a weird problem. 2 machines, one with an NE2000 clone (W95)
card and the other with an Etherworks203 (linux with Samba).
Samba: from W95 client file shares ok, home shares ok, can read and write
files. Printing: I *can* configure a printer up to the printing of the
testpage, that fails. At starting of W95 it succesfully connect to the
printer share. Printing something fails,

Use of SAMBA with Rational Clearcase
Is there anyone out there successfully using Rational Clearcase with SAMBA?
Was there any special changes you had to make to get it to work? We were
told by Rational specifically not to use SAMBA and wanted to get the other
side. TIA

WinBind does not work well with Rational ClearCase (bugfix atta ched :)
Andrew,
Thank you for your suggestions.
The real problem is Rational Technical support. When you pay someone 100k+
they tend to look for any excuse to deem you "unsupported". If you don't have
your default group set to the clearcase user group, then technical support
will decide that thats where your problem is! I am sure you know how that
goes...

Samba, Clearcase, and multiple credentials
This falls under the 'getting clearcase to work with samba'
category.
Does anybody know if the clearcase albd server actually uses
samba to access files (or anything else) on the unix side?
I am having 'discussions' with rational (the clearcase people).
The nt user running clearcase to access some unix-side views
connects to the unix side using a set of credentials that have

WinBind does not work well with Rational ClearCase (bug fix atta ched :)
Hello Samba,
We tried to use samba-2.2.4-1 with Rational ClearCase and had a problem
using WinBind.
ClearCase requires the primary group id to be set to the clearcase users
group. WinBind sets the primary group to something like
DOMAIN_GROUP_RID_USERS.
I am including the patch we made to samba-2.2.4 to get things working.
I have added two new smb.conf options:

File locking problem involving Samba, Clearcase, and Cygwin
We are having some problems in our company's test group that did not
exist when our Clearcase 2003.06 server existed on a Solaris 8
machine. Now we are running on RHEL 5.2 with Clearcase 7.0.1.3 with
Samba 3.0.28 (despite the fact that IBM has only blessed up to 3.0.24)
and running into some file locking issues with some scripts our test
group runs. I am hoping that someone might have some

WinBind does not work well with Rational ClearCase ( bug fix attached :)
Gerald,
No worries.
This patch is required if your using Rational ClearCase and you don't want
everyone to have access to it. It's to fix a brokenness (IMO) within
ClearCase, and maybe other programs. Our windows primary group has 10k+
users...
I will shoot it off to Rational, so they can provide it to there customers.
I was hoping it could be applied to the main tree so I could just

STATUS_INVALID_LOCK_SEQUENCE when writing to a file....
[Note to moderator, I couldn't remember which email account I subscribed
to this list from. Sorry...]
Hi All,
Have any of you seen this little darling of an error on writing to a
file? The sequence of events goes something like this:
1) File is opened for reading on a Samba server with oplocks disabled.
Open request is requesting a batch oplock.
2) File open SUCCEEDS. (Should this have

Samba-Clearcase: users are seen as nobody user
Hi
Can somebody help me concerning this problm with samba.
I am using samba 2.0.7 to link clearcase DB files on server UNIX with NT
clearcase clients.
We have upgraded clients from winNT4.0 to win2000 .
Now we have many trouble like :
PC stuck
performance very slow
file not found ( it exists!)
etc...
I saw in the samba log file of users the message as follow:

this is occuring and added a path=%s\n",path to the DEBUG line to maybe
