ADSL with PPP failover
Hi - I''ve been looking around for simple answers to this for a while now,
but haven''t been able to find any HOW-TO type documentation. I am
administering a site with a remote location connected primarily via a cipe
tunnel over a SHDSL connection. We also have a direct PSTN connection
between the sites. Seeing as phone calls here are not timed I plan to keep
the PSTN connection

tinc under Windows
Hello everyone,
Last week the CVS version of tinc gained the ability to run under
Windows, in a Cygwin environment (http://www.cygwin.com), making use of
the virtual network driver from the CIPE project
(http://cipe-win32.sourceforge.net/). Preparations were also being made
to support Windows without Cygwin.
Today James Yonan of OpenVPN (http://openvpn.sourceforge.net/) anounced a

OT: Work offer - SAMBA consultant required in Sydney, Australia.
Hi all - sorry for the off-topic posting - just that the list of consultants on the samba site is horrendously out of date! I thought that this would be the best place for me to find suitable resources...
firstly I would like to say thanks a million to all the samba team for your ongoing efforts and great product. I just wish I had more time to experiment with it!
We have the startings of a good

??? By "standard" what do you mean. ???
Linux's history has been notorious for variance from ANSI, NIST, POSIX
and GNU standards. Yes, far less than Microsoft and even some UNIX
vendors, but there are still major issues today with this.

outbound IAX calls bog down DSL
Evening,
I've got * asterisk up and running with nufone account for inbound and
outbound calls from the world... everything works quite nicely except that I
noticed last night that when I have a call active from * to nufone, web
surfing on the network slows to a crawl... additionally, I have a VPN tunnel
to another office (using CIPE) and while inter-office (i.e. - SIP to SIP)

What dramatising? At some point, several people decide that anything they dislike was said by me.
Several other people said far more negative comments about CIPE than myself.
Those comments have now been attributed to me.
I purposely avoided making it about whether or not CIPE should or shouldn't not be included, just why it

I have been searching for answers now more then a week, but I cannot find a
proper solution.

Again, 2-2-2, 6-6-6
At some point, Red Hat has to start the new series for "early adopters."
That means being the first to adopt the new GLibC, GCC, kernel, etc...
Looking at just the GLibC 2+ generations

smb access through cipe tunnel
Hi,
during the past weeks i tried to set up a network through a cipe tunnel,
building a vpn to some road warriers. With few words, the tunnel is
etablished, and at the tcp/ip level everything works fine.
NET A : 192.168.0.0/26
NET B : 192.168.102.0/26
trans-net : 192.168.101.0/26
in ascii-art, it looks like this:
eth0:192.168.0.5
     +-----------+ cipcb0:192.168.101.1

Even I've left this thread.
I guess we're all waiting for Lee to turn Blue. ;->
Or is it Red (Hat)? ;->
Okay Lee, we all agree, Red Hat makes stupid decisions, adopts buggy software - especially the kernel and Red Hat is to blame for the decisions in the kernel, and also stupidly backports fixes instead of adopting newer versions with the fixes.
And there is absolutely no need for

Tinc for WIndows
Hello,
I have running tinc on my several linux boxes and now I am trying to install tinc on my WinXP box.
I can't understand what kind of VPN interface I should install - CIPE or TAP which included into the windows tinc package ?
Another question is about variable "Interface =" in the tinc.conf file. What name should I use ?

Re: Windows NT PDC and Samba PDC cross subnet browsing? (solved)
Hi everyone,
I think I solved it:
- I installed WINS on both sides on the PDC's (Samba on the one end, NT on
the other).
- On both subnets the clients are configured by dhcp to use their own PDC's
WINS as their primairy WINS server and the WINS on the remote PDC as their
"secondairy" WINS server.
- TCPIP configuration on the Windows NT PDC configured to use it's own WINS

Browse lists from other workgroups across subnets
I have problems to get browse lists from other workgroups across subnets.
On win95 network neighbourhood I have a complete list form all computers
in the same workgroup (including computers located on an other subnet) and
a workgroup list. But if I try to look at the computers on an other
workgroup I get an error message: workgroup not available.
The subnet has an samba server (2.0.3) configured

can't browse across subnets
Hi folks -
I'm having an issue here.
I have my samba server sitting on one subnet, and the rest of the clients
sitting on another (due to IP administration reasons).
I assign both my clients and the server to the same workgroup, but
the winboxen clients can't browse to the samba server.
The win clients all have WINS resolution turned on, and I specified

Wierd problem with file sharing over internet.
I've set up a CIPE VPN, between my notebook computer and my Linux based
firewall. While the VPN generally works well, I've noticed a strange
problem with file sharing from the local network to the notebook. I set
up the VPN, with the idea of accessing my systems at home via a dial up
ISP, to my home network via cable modem. The VPN works well for most
protocols, such as telnet,

win98 browsing problem across VPN subnets
I have just setup a VPN connection three sites using IPCOP.
Everything seems to be talking ok, apart from browsing the network neighborhood. There are no NT/Win2K/XP servers running on any of the sites, all sites are just running win98 pc's using tcp/ip. I have tried configuring all PC's to be on the same workgroup and setup sharing, but still each site can only see the pc's
