smbmount intermittent problems
I use smbmount to mount a number of NT shares from around a global network
in order to sync from a master distribution which resides in linux.
Specifically...
uklnxsrv$ smbmount //NTSRV/share -c 'mount /tmp/temporary_mount -u 502 -g
510' -U guest%guest_passwd
Frequently it works well, but from time to time the mounted NT share, for
lack of a better word gets corrupted. Here are the

Why does backing up a Windows workstation bog it down so?
I just put a DAT drive in my Linux box, and used it to back up the whole
LAN. While the Windows boxes are being backed up, they get VERY slow.
They don't get this slow when I do a find file, or any other disk
intensive activity locally, and when I do that, the disk light is on
pretty much full-time - doing backup, it seems to be on only about 50%
of the time.
Is this some horribly bad code in

About smbfs: smb_get_length error
Hi All:
When I use samfs, sometimes I got the following messages, Mr. Google says
this is because the windows client use the share, and the connection
is "reconnected"! Does it right?
How to ward off the error? Is there any potential problem if I ignore it?
My actions are smbmount and smbumount some shares. Sometimes some shares are
smbumount before they mounted (thus cause a

smbmount, smbumount and smbmnt
Hi,
I am deploying samba for an embedded system. The requirement is that the
system should be able to mount windows share points. I believe "smbmount,
smbumount and smbmnt" components are needed to do the same. I am not very
clear about smbmnt though!
I find that smbmount, smbumount and smbmnt are all quite huge. Around 300
to 400Kb each.
I understand that Samba is capable of doing

smbmount/smbumount getting rid of dead connections
I've got a win98 laptop and a linux box. On my linux box, I smbmount
a directory from the laptop. Alas, win98 boxes
crash a lot, and I move the laptop a lot... to and from work.
If the laptop crashes or if I move it with a shared directory mounted
on my linux box, that mount gets "Stuck".... it's
present in /etc/mtab but when I cd to it and do an ls it says:

smbmount on redhat 9
I use samba in a very limited application to mount smb shares using smbmount. I have a simple script I use that mounts several shares to a variety of mount points as a specific user on my system. The script passes username, password, share, mount point, domain information to each call to smbmount. This script worked perfectly under redhat 8.0 but since upgrading to redhat 9 I have had some

smbmount and smbumount
Hi,
when I try to mount a share on my windows pc using smbmount it
says that it needs mount version 6, but my mount came fron util-
linux and it's version is 2.9.... I also noticed that the smbmount and
smbumount files in the samba 2.0.0 package don't get compiled...
Can someone help me? I'm running slackware 3.6 with kernel 2.0.0-
pre7...

Password caching and smbsh
First off, I don't know if this is password caching revisited with a
vengeance or what. It's very inconsistent for the amount of time the
share will stay mounted. I *think* the following are the relevant

invalid

smbmount/kernel 2.4.2/Samba 2.0.7 - Unable to use large files/directories
Hi there.
I'm having a very odd problem with samba. I have a Mandrake 7.2 linux
distro, though I've compiled a 2.4.2 kernel for it (with samba support
compiled in - not a module), and I've also compiled Samba 2.0.7. When I
mount shares from my win98 machines, if I try to list a large directory
or open a large file, the terminal freezes. I'm able to log in another,
but if I

Linux 2.2.0 and Samba client not happening for me
Dudes and/or Dudettes:
HEEELLLPPP! (such a newbie statement)
I can't get my remote SMB mounts to work on my Linux box.
duke was happily running Slackware Linux 2.0.36 and Samba 1.9.18p8 .
I upgraded to Linux 2.2.0pre9 (2.2.0final), which seemed to require
upgrading to Samba 2.0.0 . (I don't remember the exact errors)
Now i can't get my NT and '95 disks to stay mounted on

smbmount disappears
Hi,
I'm using samba-2.0.6-19991110 on Redhat 6.1 in order to mount a NT-filesystem.
The mount command is:
smbmount //ISDN/CoTel /mnt/NT-Bank/ -o username=serv,password=serv,workgroup=WORK,uid=root,gid=users,ro
everything works fine, except that after one or two days the mount
disappears. A simple 'ls /mnt/NT-Bank/MCCWIN' results in 'Input/output error'.

smbmount double start - hangs process
Hello,
After an upgrade to RedHat 9 and the supplied
samba-[|commoan-|client-]2.2.7a-8.9.0 rpms we've discovered a problem with
smbmount.
It sometimes invokes itself twice and then hangs.
Sample script to test:
#!/usr/bin/perl
# testing Samba problem
print "$$\n";
`/usr/bin/smbmount //cmc-apps/settlements ./t-samba -o

Horrible smbmount problem
Hello,
I have a problem with smbmount between two Linux (both: RH 6.0,
kernel 2.2.9, samba 2.0.4c) boxes. When I use smbmount, the share loads and
I can read files just fine, but when I copy ("cp file") to the share, the
first 512 bytes of the file are copied and then the copy just freezes there.
Trying several times to kill -9 the process didn't work. I had to reboot the
server.

smbmount & solaris 7
Has anyone out there had success with smbmount smbumount and solaris 7?
If so, please let me know how you installed it; ideally, I'd like to add
it using pkgadd.
So far I only have smbclient working.
Thanks,
Kevin

smbmounted shares don't stay mounted
I'm running Linux 2.1.130 on an AXP, with Samba 2.0 beta 2. I have smbfs
enabled in the kernel with Win 95 bug fixes enabled but I'm not running
smbd. The server containing the share is an HP running Samba 1.9.16p11.
I mount the share with
smbmount //hpname/share -c 'mount /home/me/mydir'
All is well for a while (~1 hour), but then I get
kernel: smb_get_length: recv error = 5

Erratic behavior with smbmount
I'm running Linux Fedora Core 2 with Samba 3.0.3-5
installed. I'm experiencing some strange behavior
when I try to mount a FAT32 share on a Win2k
workstation.
After a fresh reboot, when I try smbmount (or
mount.smb) everything seems to work (no error
messages). Then when I try to access the mountpoint -
via Nautilus or by doing "ls" in a terminal - the
system freezes. If I

Samba can't keep NT shares mounted
I don't know who this problem belongs to, samba or Linux, but it's a
common one, judging by the responses in my INBOX to a previous post.
Plus, it's a fairly serious one; many applications require smb shares to
be mounted continuously and without interruption. It's been a recurring
problem which seems to have been pushed off to the side as not
important, even though it's a

Hungarian codepage problem using smbmount
Dear Samba Developers, Dear Urban,
This was my original letter. I hope you get it correctly this time.
Maybe it was too big, now I reduced the size of this letter.
My goal is to make a Linux fileserver up and running with automatic
archiving functionality in a mixed Windows 2000 - Linux network and
since the beginning of February I could not solve my problem, so I
write to you hoping that you

Linux SMB Mount utils patch
Hi,
I'm sure that you are all aware that the mount utilities that ship
with samba are designed to compile and run only with Linux 2.1 series
development kernels.
I'll _try_ keep this short and sweet while doing my best to
explain what I have done, since I have a tendancy to ramble on. I
have two boxes, one Linux with libc5, and another with Linux and Glibc2
(aka libc6). The Samba
